  2. I believe it still has a dash cap. If you look at auction on eBay, there is a close up of the lower dash and console by the pigtail. The photo shows what appears to be a full face dash cover screwed to the original dash.

  4. Other than the overzealous description of the vehicle, is there a specific example where he's being dishonest? From the photographs and claimed support documentation, the car looks pretty good. I take what we says with a grain of salt. He is a used car salesman after all.

  6. I'm guessing the reserve is set for the owner to get at least half of his restoration cost back. Logic being not so much as current fair market value, but convincing a buyer they are purchasing an appreciating asset at half the cost to build if you did it yourself.

  8. Perhaps the intent was not restoring the vehicle to a coveted Gold Medallion status in the first place. According to the seller's ad, the total build cost was $90,000 with receipts, which makes be believe money was not a limiting factor in its restoration. I’m fairly certain if the seller wanted to build a Gold Medallion car, he would have intended to.

  10. Anyone here know about the history of this car? http://firsttraderegistry.com/forsale/10_14/70datsun/ If I had the time, money and skill, this would be the level of restoration I would strive for. I can only imagine the asking price. Please someone buy it before I do something rash!!!
  11. I traveled from California to Upstate New York to inspect the car way back in April of 2002, when it was advertised in Hemmings Motor News. At that time the asking price was around $12-14K. The car had small rust bubbles on the lower rear fender (driver side, I think), which concerned me based on the asking price back then. The other turn off was that I contacted the dealership days in advance that I was flying out to see it. When I arrived the car was still sitting in an outdoor carport coated with dust and it had a dead battery. Frankly, I would have hoped they would have prep it and made sure it started before I arrived. Otherwise, other than the non-original mods others have pointed out, the car was solid. I assume that car has been repainted since I saw it last.
  12. This is a very nice example and I hope it commands a fair price! I have to say that I am disappointed and not surprised by some of the negative comments. There is significant amount of nitpicking of faults and pointing out of “non-original” aspects of this automobile. Having been a member of this forum for over a dozen years, sadly little has changed. There seems to be a prevailing tendency to over-criticize a vehicle and swiftly pass judgment. This type of attitude is the reason that I rarely visit this site, and have kept my over three decades and half a dozen 240Zs of experience to myself. I use to post often in the beginning, but seen this site really go downhill over the years. Perhaps this pointing out of faults is some type of therapy and display of passive aggressiveness to make one feel better about their inferior vehicle to the one to posted on the forum for public scrutiny. Take a moment to step back and enjoy to vehicle for what it is. Sure it is not a Uber Grand Master Gold Medallion winner or whatever. Nonetheless, it is a fine car and its sale will help increase respect to the cars make well all hold so dear. Rant over!

  21. That is a wonderful example and the right color too I hope this question will not be taken as being nitpicky, but rather trying to get my facts straight. Is the rear muffler on the vehicle original? All the 240Z's I recall with original rear mufflers were chrome tipped. Most of them were painted black and were manufactured for NIssan in Japan by Nichira. It's hard to see, but I posted an example below.

  24. I stopped by Les' shop a few years ago to purchase a carpet and seat set. He appeared to be a one person operation and by the look of all the projects he had in various stages of completion, a very busy guy. I'm sure he'll get back to you, but it won't be like waiting to get a callback from MSA.
