  1. What? You don't carry a back up Z with you?
  2. When we used to cut off Jeans to make shorts…
  3. Well, I own 14 Z cars, although some are not complete, and at present only two are in a state where they could be running and driving with minimal effort. I’m retiring January 5, and the plan is to get busy assembling and tuning. Oh, and selling off the ones that are essentially a title, vin tag and data plates.
  4. I do have some play in the clutch pedal. Seems like I only have one choice now, remove the transmission and check throwout bearing collar
  5. Near the end of the Crane XR700 / XR3000 instructions there is a section on modifying Smiths type tachs, which is what you have. Looks like they're reducing the power/size of the magnetic field by removing a loop of the sensing wire. Here's a link to the downloads area, might be worth reading. Page 16.
  6. I'm thinking maybe oil pan gasket holes for the cap on the rear where the rear main seal sits? But that one has a single threaded hole as well if I remember correctly. Luckily the OP has been set on the right course. Curious to find out what the debris might be..
  7. Just went on the site. Way better than the old site! I like the way you choose your year and it only shows items for your year. You dont have to scroll through 510 or 280zx parts.
  8. You meant level, right? The oil level will only be as high as the bottom of the fill plug unless it's overfilled. Or warmer than when it was put in. I remember working on my speedo cable without doing anything special. Had it in off and on a few times trying to get the cable properly inserted in to both ends after a transmission change.
  9. You Sir are a genius! AND a funny one too! I see signatures (dead people).
  10. Depends upon if it is a solid cam or drilled. Which is it? Also, if I recall, anything on an L24 cam with over .460 lift requires a shorter valve seal to eliminate valve retainer contact with the higher lift cam.
  11. Stubborn damper pulley? My foggy memory seems to recall two threaded holes on the center part. Can’t recall ever having difficulty sliding one off though.
  12. Well, I had a chance to use the bench to work on the car today. I was about to take the 240Z to a car show, but it wouldn't start. I pulled the #1 plug and tried again. There was no spark. I got in the 260Z instead and went to the show. When I got back home, I hooked the voltmeter to the coil. No voltage in start or run. After just a moment to contemplate the test results, I determined that the tachometer must have become unplugged, probably when I was messing with the hazard light switch a week ago. No better time than the present to test the bench in real world conditions. I set it up, put the pad on it and scooted under the steering column. After groping around some behind the dash, I found the unplugged connector and put it back securely. I slid out from under the steering column and stood up with no strain on the back. I then folded up the legs and put the bench away. The car started right up. It's so nice to see a project work out so well.
