  1. Mystery is solved. I thought for sure it was the horn relay, but it wasn't. The problem was the connection for the horn in the steering wheel. Many moons ago when the car was being prepped for an ITS track car, I put a Sparco steering wheel on and apparently left the horn connection just dangling inside. Sure enough this was the cause of the drain. Steve, thank you so much for your help. You were a big help, especially when you kept asking me if I knew how to use an ammeter lol.
  2. Thick one looks like the crank pulley washer.
  3. Hi CanTechZ , thank you so much, I am happy that the maths is good. Like you said, it is great for that old engine. Now I am curious about our 3.364 rear final gear , I want to hear from someone put 5 speed into a US 240Z . How it feels in a town driving ? If not bad , then it will bring great fuel mileage, will not it ? My ZG ‘s FS5C71B has 0.864 for the 5th gear , with 3.900 final gear looks almost the same as 4 speed with 3.364 final gear, doesn’t it ? Next time I will test my US 240Z on the high way , I guess fuel mileage will be close to ZG , or the effects of G-nose and rear spoiler will make a obvious difference between the two cars. Picture is my ZG 06/1972 , no emissions devices .Accumulates 78000km , maybe no overhaul since new . From 03/1973 (HS30-102001 , S30-103001) all Fairlady models except PZ got emissions devices. L24 got HMB 46 W , canister box , reservoir tank in the rear right fender . However, no air pump! Kats
  4. Correct. Some might think this a "lazy" way to do this but I'm one that always tries to make modifications that can be undone if / when someone wants to return things to stock. Re-using the spray bar and covering the oil supply ports with gasket to block them off is a simple and effective way to convert to internal oiled cam. It also leaves the spray bar in a place where it won't get lost. My mistake was forgetting to explain that to young Curtz at the shop...
  5. Our club hosted a fun all Nissan car show Saturday at Superior Nissan, our sponsor. A nice day, (a good barometer for that is when you see Zup in shorts) with complimentary burgers & dogs. Lots of people stopped by to chat and give the cars some love.
  6. I'm just glad that you weren't somewhere underneath when it happened.
  7. I agree with you, but clearly the first drawing shows it the opposite direction. Maybe R180s use less space so it could go the other way??? I did have a lot of umbrella drinks on vacation so if this is the only bad outcome, I can live with that!!!
  8. Good job tracking it down. I can only point you in the right direction. You have to put the effort into it to find the root cause.
  9. The bar is installed with the loops facing toward the front of the car. You must have had too many umbrella drinks on your vacation.... lol
  10. Powder coated should not make a difference unless the lower face was coated. The Nissan gaskets available at your local dealer don’t require any adhesive., and can be used over and over again as long as they aren’t damaged. Any reason why you did not use the factory bolts? Grab a factory gasket, clean everything and reinstall. Just my 2 cents….
  11. Here are some pictures before I removed the wiring harnesses from my 7/70.
  12. Hi Ian , the pair of dash and the rear spoiler!! They must be a treasure for someone in RHD region. ENG must be English I think so too , and the other is unique. We have a very good thread about “ Kanji character “ under the dash in our forums, this will be a good candidate for the thread I think. As a native Japanese speaker, I see this is showing 可 ( pronunciation is “ ka “ basically means “ OK “ and / or “able“ ) . There are three style (basically) of stroke , the one which is written on the dash metal is the third style which is the most fast and rough stroke . Sometimes it is very difficult to read for our generation, I think some hundred years ago , This style was usual thing for everyone ( I see them only in a text book in school or Japanese old temples and shrines, that kind of museums etc ) . By the way, my elder sister has been teaching Shodo (書道) , Japanese calligraphy. Maybe she knows what the painting is. I tried to write for you , the left is the standard stroke 可, the right is the fast and relaxing style . However , what does it really mean? As I am reading our thread, we think these paintings on the dash metal are sometimes no meanings , sometimes means for model designation , etc . Kats
  13. That would tell me there's a problem with the alternator.
  14. I just want to see what a roughly 24" tire looks like in the front wheel well of an S30. I am in the process of buying tires and just wanted to see what it looked like.
  15. The bolt threads into a nut that's welded to the frame. It's nearly impossible to keep the threads of the bolt and nut completely isolated (insulated from each other). So, just tightening the attachment bolt through the circle connector will give a very good connection to the frame - no need to scrape any paint off.
  16. The worst it the medical experts that read a couple articles on WebMD of Fakebook and all a sudden they act like a board certified physician.
  17. It will get checked again. Fingers crossed. It will go back to the machine shop to get decked again and re lap the valve seats. first it needs to go in a large ultra sonic tank.
  18. Keep looking, at think you’ll find one at a better price. I have access to 4 yards near me. They all want $425-$475. Two are close and two are wide. After reading your thread I might just grab one for my war time stock like [emoji23]. Call this yard in LA. They have an 83 ZX transmission. All Japanese Auto Wrecking 323-581-0500 Good luck!
  19. Kats, Just wanted to say that I love the pictures. I know you are on the other side of the globe, but your Spring season looks just like mine.
  20. Hey Kats, that is great fuel economy and your math is spot on. For comparison 13.63km/L equals 7.33 L/100km, my 2017 Nissan Sentra SR Turbo (1.6L turbo), with a 6 speed manual, is rated at 7.3 L/100km HWY, (source 2017 Nissan brochure). Very good considering the 45 year difference.
  21. These pair of dashes are on Ebay just now. Most S30 owners won't see this unless there car is apart, but under the steering column section, markings from the factory (carrying on the glovebox and radio markings in the thread) The top one looks like ENG for England, the other...?
  22. Ran up the odometer a little today, the weather here is perfect, but not before doing something really stupid. I was in a rush to change the oil this morning and forgot it was in neutral. Went to jack the center flat on the crossmember. Got it pretty high and CU-THUNK. The cup on the jack came off and up between the pan and the torsion bar. Put a little dent in the front of the pan but didn't puncture it so all is well except I'm pissed at myself. "Could've been worse" is my go to now.
