Uh oh... a familar Safari Gold car showed up unexpectedly in the latest Nissan Stories!!! 😄 https://usa.nissanstories.com/en-US/releases/hidden-design-elements-in-the-all-new-nissan-z
  2. Here are the trumpets, originally red plastic - I painted them black to better blend in. The compressor is mounted to the inner fender below the flow control valve. In retrospect, I wish I had mounted it about 4" more forward. I tapped one of the OE horn power wires to drive the compressor - a small red wire zip tied to the wiring bundle going thru the port in the radiator support. .
  3. Since this is a build thread, I thought I'd share some pics of the current project that absolutely will be a part of the Z's rebirth - a new shop. I was supposed to do this last year. While I am delighted to be getting this space, the build is kicking my behind. I just don't remember this stuff being so heavy. I am building this with two friends. I built my last shop the same way. It goes slowly, but everything is correct and I don't have to worry about what's happening when I'm not present. I've seen way too many times some truly half fast workmanship. I used to work as a consultant for an attorney who would represent people who had been screwed one way or another by a contractor. I would evaluate and report. There's some scary stuff out there. Anyway, it's 32 x 40 with 12' ceilings. My wife insisted I make it compatible for use with a lift - god bless this woman! Into it I must stuff a lot of tools. I'll be lucky to get the car in with enough room to work. Right now, I have woodworking machine tools stored in a shed, car parts strewn to the four winds, metalworking machines and welders in the garage, and all of it must come together in this building. Interestingly, I have the same trouble getting materials for this build as I do for the Z! Standing seam roofing is next - materials due in two weeks. We'll see.
  4. Pretty much finished with 400 dry will wet sand at 600 over the weekend The biggest problem now, is my back is pissed!!! I'm hoping to wet sand this weekend, retape the car and clean up and be ready to spray by Monday. Might spray the car this coming Thursday. We'll see..
  5. Driving a 240Z today surrounded by gigantic SUV’s and Pickup’s, all too often driven by distracted drivers - I’m beginning to think Automotive Air Horns or even Train Horns are a good idea.
  6. We had a whole long conversation about that car earlier. There's something odd about the BHC. They collect junk and overprice it. Here's some old links, if they come through. Posts 96, 175, and 205.
  7. https://www.ebay.com/itm/224586811672?hash=item344a6ac918:g:HPAAAOSw3ZFfyTd8 These dents should buff right out and that rust needs a splash or rust inhibitor. It’s stuff like this that makes me wonder where things are going? Are cars going up in value that fast or is our money becoming progressively worthless? We bought a 2021 Suburban one year ago at about 6k under the sticker MSRP. About 6 weeks ago the dealership called us and said they’d be willing to offer us MSRP for the car. When I went online to look at similar vehicles they were goin for at 9k above MSRP. Someone slap me and wake me up?
  8. I thought the cadillacs had a draw down trunk mechanism? Construction is crazy right now! Go ahead and find the wire, blue boxes and panels or meter base that you need. They can be very difficult to source and may take a month or two to find it all. If you're going to need any interior paint start now trying to find it too. I wanted some concrete this week and one of the plants I use told me I could have some after Christmas!!!
  9. I got many sorts of felt washers after a google.. google "Felt washers" 🙂
  10. Some factory rally s30s utilized air horns in place of (or on addition to?) stock horns, so there is a teeny-tiny precedent. Probably unlikely that the owner installed them for that reason, but the next owner has that "out" to leave them on. 😄
  11. Tabco would be my last choice! I would contact kf vintage https://kfvintagejdm.com/ Many times if they don't have it, they will make it for you
  12. Several very early (ie 69 production mostly) 240Z's arrived with the Hand Throttles, once the legal issue was realized - they were disabled at Nissan's Port Facilities prior to delivery to the Dealers. The Dealers were also notified and instructed to disable or remove them prior to sale. It was against the law to Sell a new car with a hand throttle in most States - - but not against the law for a private owner to have on their car. Lots of owners ordered the parts over the Datsun Part Counter at the Dealerships and installed them themselves. None ever came from the factory to the US on any Series II 1971 240Z's. The one installed on this Z does have the early style Choke/Throttle knob's.
  13. I saw 1 or 2 very early 1970 production date cars with hand throttles while working as a mechanic at a Datsun dealer in 1971. We weren't told to remove hand throttles but given my experience with such "passed down from the top' messaging at that time I'm confident application, If indeed official, wasn't consistent. I apprenticed at a foreign car shop in 1969/70 and saw 1 or 2 Volvo's? & MB with hand throttles.
  14. Those air horns though.......🤣 😂
  15. The hand throttle is not original by any stretch of the imagination. And it's not a low mileage car.
  16. I agree on the overspray on the data plate. However, they have lots of documentation. The mileage might be able to be established that way. The master and radiator hose, may be recent additions to get it running Unfortunately, it has a sunroof. It does have a hand throttle. If it's original, it would be pretty rare. Dash may be uncracked. Left fender is pretty wavy. Still $21k is pretty healthy for a car like that
  17. "The chance to own a one-owner car with its original paint and such low mileage has clearly been enough to coax at least five bidders to offer more than the #4 value." Highly doubt both of those are true. Hints of overspray in the photos, and for it to only have 44K on the clock, you'd think a majority of the worm screw hose clamps, incorrect oil pressure sensor, universal radiator hose, and the general poor condition of the car, would not be there or replacements for the factory equipment. 144K and a cheap respray seem more likely.
  18. Small Update: I have driven the car 2 or 3 times for a total of about 5 miles. Brakes have almost no pedal after new MC and rebuild of calipers and wheel cylinders. going to dig into this more. Removed induction and vintage Clifford header. Sent header to Jet Hot in OK to get stripped and coated in blue like it would have been originally. Most of the intake and exhaust fasteners weren't very tight and one lower stud was broken. Ordered new correct hardware from the Z store. Ordered new nozzles, needles, and SU's Only DVD from Z Therapy. Hope to have it road worthy by April.
  19. Haha! Well not for long! Keep screwing up like that and you'll soon be as experienced as the rest of us! Haha!!
