I signed in the day I joined and haven't signed out since. Can't figure out a reason to? You can right click and open a new tab in "incognito" if you feeling sneaky.2 points

I can try to get a cleaner scan of that page and will post if it works. I removed the ARA A/C set up many years ago when I upgraded to a more modern system with a rotary compressor. So, I'm unable to visually check for the attachment point you referenced. Good luck with your project and thanks for the question. It gave me an excuse to dig out old Datsun files. November 2021 marked the 50th anniversary of when I bought my Z. The ARA A/C was installed in 1972.2 points

There's some interesting reading in Bill Fisher and Bob Waar's book: "how to modify DATSUN 510 610 240Z engines and chassis" I have a copy from 1973, it's a good read. Here are a few snippets related to isolators for Mikuni/Solex carbs,2 points

So, isolators commonly required on fours, but much less so on sixes. On other marques & models I've been familiar with over the years (quite a lot of Italian, French, German and British stuff), rubber/metalastik isolators, MISAB plates (basically a gasket with an O ring in it) rubber bobbins, contraptions like the dreaded Thackeray Washer and all sorts of other funnies were dreamed up in an effort to mitigate heat soak and fuel frothing. Almost always on inline fours, with their inherent harmonics. I think in most cases they are just not necessary on a Nissan L6.1 point

If you weren't aware, the U20 Solex carb insulators (16174-25501) have a gasket either side of them, one manifold, one carb. There are also 50mm versions of these.1 point- ARA air conditioning installation instructions
Good idea. I've carried that paper copy around for 50 years just waiting for someone to ask to see it and no telling how many more years I will be making it available. 😎1 point- Restoration of BringaTrailer 240z - HLS30-35883
So, I got all my parts sent out for plating. $100 in shipping for one box and $146 for the other. $246 in shipping from GA to TX!!! F'rs. Amazon (for shipping) is going to eat them alive before too much longer - both UPS and FedEx.1 point- ARA air conditioning installation instructions
Maybe move those into the technical resources section?1 point- The Early 77 rear hatch differences
The difference in shape is very apparent. I'd go with the pictures. Many errors in the various databases that are floating around out on the internet. Here's examples from zcarsource. They seem to be reputable. https://zcarsource.com/reconditioned-original-280z-gas-tank-for-the-1977-78-datsun-280z/ https://zcarsource.com/reconditioned-original-280z-gas-tank-for-the-1975-76-datsun-280z/1 point- Closing holes in trunk when removing crash bumpers
Was thinking a rubber grommet like what @SteveJ linked, but I figured I would ask in case there is a kit or something already available. I am always pleasantly surprised what neat solutions the gaggle of degenerates wisemen/women on this forum come up with. 😛 Thanks again guys!1 point- Closing holes in trunk when removing crash bumpers
Or seriously, some Killmat or Dynamat foil with butyl backing sound insulation sheeting provides excellent adhesion and permanent seal. Put lots of it down while you’re at it.1 point- Closing holes in trunk when removing crash bumpers
I believe I put some RTV on some shorter bolts and sealed the holes that way.1 point- saturday night music thread
1 pointDouble Trouble played with Kenny Wayne Sheperd on a project he did where they played with old blues guys. They came to my little town and recorded with Jerry "Boogieman" McCain at a studio one of my buddies owns. Me and maybe 20 other people were let in. It was cool as anything I've ever done. Kenny Wayne's birthday was that day and I sang happy birthday to him and Mel Gibson's daughter. That's KWS wife.1 point- saturday night music thread

1 pointBonamassa is a real talent, and he CAN play wonderfully. I saw him at Red Rocks this summer and both I and my friends attending were let down by his performance. When he plays, it's all about him. Endless guitar wanking, going on in his solos much too long, and too much emphasis on his own originals which designed to let him go on and on. When he steps out of his "look at me, I'm the star" mode long enough to try a traditional blues tune or let someone else in the band really take some solo time, he's really good. Otherwise, he wore out his schtick in about 45 minutes. I love good guitar, especially living and dead musicans like Danny Gatton, "Richard" Dale, Santana, Popa Chubby and many others. I love Bonammassa's technique, just not the way he uses it when he performs. (Got a chuckle from the website automatically turning Dale's first name into D***. Therefore, I used Richard.)1 point- Restoration of BringaTrailer 240z - HLS30-35883
Enjoyed reading through that. You got some nice results Patcon. I have been tempted to do some on my own, but so far have avoided because I don't see enough pros to counter cons for my situation. Space in my garage is always a factor. Chemicals that get stored for very long periods of time without use are another big con for me. Anyway, I wish I could plate a few things here and there. Good news for me is that Texas Precision Plating (Steve) said I can send my parts to him and they will plate them. I am happy about that. I had boxed most things up already. Yesterday, I "bent" the hard lines that go through the transmission tunnel (brake, fuel supply, fuel return, and gas tank vent) so they could fit in a box. I used the gas cylinder from my Mig as a form, and put one ~180 degree bend in each long hard line. Along with those in a large box, I put a lot of the large parts which are to receive zinc with yellow chromate (gold) packed in their own box. I have two boxes to ship them. The other box is just hardware and small parts and comes to 50 lbs!1 point- 280zx 1979 2+2 slick roof restauration
Cleaning up the engineroom was my last task on the 280zx, and it's slowly taking place.. I'm rarely in the garage to work on it.. my gas heater is broken down and with these natural gas prices.. I'm busy with electric heaters.. And for the time i have no solar collectors.. thats also expensive..(High electric bill.) As energy prices overhere also exploded we are all in the race for those solar collectors! And YES also made in Holland is an option! So i'm more often seen behind my pc..pfff.. Also my energy level is a bit low these days.. So i looked up my 240z and 280zx op Hagerty's and it seems that the 280zx is following the 240z's lines.. (I restored my 280zx just in time it seems!! ) Datsun 240z 1971... Datsun 280zx.. Double the price in one year!! My 240z is not an "excellent" car but i have more than enough parts to make it that way already in storage for years.. I finally assembled the engine in October.. was to sick to do anything in November.. Here some pics of the result. Still hanging upside down.. Inlet plus injection.. underside Taking out the old broken bolts with a good heatup by welding it... it was a easy job! New bolts installed with some red (very tight) lock-tite. And some new self locking nuts. Assembled the under the hood light also.. At this time the engine is ready to go back into the engineroom, i have to clean that up first, paint the inner fenders and just give it a good clean for the rest of the parts, most are already done. As it is a daily driver it has a black anti rust bottom and i leave that as it is, also on the lower beams in the engineroom. (I took off a bit of it from a brakeline and... surprise surprise.. the olive green ORIGINAL Nissan brake line paint came out looking brand new!)1 point - My two swiss S30Z Fairlady Restoration build thread
