Well my 190 lash pads arrived yesterday so I am chumping at the bit to get going on assembly, trying to take a deep breath before start. Don’t want to rush this . Biggest thing to check now is piston to valve clearance . All other projects are put on hold until this thing is assembled ! Also think I snagged a G-force t-5 trans to mate up with this. For those not familiar it is the Nissan T-5 from the ZXT that gets its guts ripped out and replaced with WC T-5 guts. Larger main shaft and tougher gear sets . Pro- tower shifter , hydraulic TOB! The beauty is that you get a trans that is good for 600 hp , better gear ratios and it just bolts up!

Since the problem goes away after a bleed and returns after a certain amount of use, I'm thinking it's bad seals in either the slave or master. Time to remove and inspect the bores and seals in both. If they are rebuilds of old castings, expect to find pitted bores.

So no steps backwards today!!! I made a plug for the other stripped out valve cover hole up by the thermostat housing. That one was a breeze compared to the other one for many reasons. Mainly because the original hole was in the right place, but just stripped out. That and the fact that my PO had not punctured into the water jacket there too. Anyway compared to the one at the rear, this one was way easy. Red Threadlock on both the plug inserts and screwed them both tight. Here's the smaller, simple one by the thermostat housing: Give the plugs 24 hours to cure and I'll cut them off and flatten the stubs. Today I also took the valve seals off and started cleaning the chambers up. First wave done and no real surprises. Couple small gouges from the PO. Probably from slip-oops while cleaning the old head gasket off. Annoying, but I don't think they are going to cause problems. So, couple steps forward, and no steps back! Much better than the past few days!!

Once the kids FINALLY went to sleep, I went out for some carb playing / tuning at night. So I thought I’d take some photos to show how well the LED bulbs work behind standard H4 lenses. It was bugging me that I hadn’t shared that ;) The iPhone camera does it no justice but here’s the beam pattern with a rock solid horizontal cut off on the driver’s side (RHD car) and the break in the middle kicking the light up onto the pavement side of the car. And here is dipped beam on a piece of (sorta) straight road: And high beam: You can just about see the way the high beam lights the stuff in the distance - like I said the iPhone 6s camera isn’t great at night - time for the upgrade I’ve been putting off! ;) Oh and got stopped by the local police again. Got the usual chat: “I used to lust after that car as a little boy sir!! Straight six, right? Sounds really nice!”

Hi All, My early Hitachi radio functions nearly 100% except for the audio output stage. I get a speaker thump when turning on but no static or sound. The volume and tone controls make no changes to the silence. I just replaced all caps and no change. I found the cap C38, which decouples the power amp transistors from the speakers, to be toast and the PO seems to have hooked up two speakers to the output. I am now starting to investigate deeper. The voltages on the power transistors are normal however I am getting ~230ohms across the input winding of the audio transformer T7 feeding the power stage from the Hitachi FA-6007T op amp. I'll check against my working radio. Here are some pictures of cap replacement to help others. I also included the service manual (thanks to @hr369 and @JDMjunkies.ch) ? Sadly there are no AM radio stations in this area so trouble shooting RF stages will be is tough. Hopefully it is just a problem in the audio stage. I hate to beat on a hornets nest but... The government is too big! Its a leviathon and is no longer controllable by the people. "This form of government is only suitable for a moral people". I am not sure we still qualify as that. We elect unscrupulous, amoral leaders and are surprised when they retire from congress as millionaires. The problem is I havent been able to come up with a fix. I guess the best place to start is a moral populace that demands change... Its a complicated problem with lots of moving parts and agendas

If I had a choice of quality parts I'd buy them. I have no idea where to find such things. There are no such stores here or anywhere I know of. There is a Dollar Store on every corner however. They have great cheap paint brushes I can use once to clean parts and toss. My parents still have the same paint brushes they used and cleaned since 1956. I still have their working toaster as well. Me think we are doomed.

Hi Guy, thanks for the compliments. Will you be out in Branson? The car is not perfect, but it's pretty doggone nice, the colors are awesome. I wish we had another week or two to finish up some small details and do some final tuning, but for the most part she's about 99% complete. We chose in several cases to go with the original parts versus buying new or aftermarket replacements. The windshield would be a good example. It is the original 46 year old glass, complete with small rock chips and wiper scratches. In cases like these, the original part trumps a perfect aftermarket windshield for the build. The small defects are not super obvious in the pics, but I am sure the judges will ding us for such things. That is fine and understandable, it's just very cool to see the original part on the car where it's reasonable. Anyway, I am thrilled that the car will be at the show. I am looking forward to seeing all those awesome Z's!.

Wife and I arrived in Branson late last night. We are planning on doing some sightseeing and catching some shows before ZCON ramps up. @jayhawk will be visiting family in Kansas before bringing his car down Tuesday AM. Looking forward to a great show and meeting up with old friends. Also, if anyone coming to Branson has a spare one of those plastic things that secures coil wires to radiator , I could use one (for the car that is). Thanks, Rich

There's some horrible road construction going on around "malfunction junction" in Birmingham, where I-59 meets I-65. Go slow and watch out for those temporary but humongous road patches. Enjoy the drive. Be sure and find our two Jims from Arkansas, they know Branson well and are super nice guys.

Good news! It was the op-amp Hitachi FA-6007T that died. I'm not sure if there are any other Hitachi radios using this early bird? FYI a quick and dirty test of the audio section is to simply touch pin 1 and the radio should hum.

Assuming there was no problem before the line change and no adjustments made at that time, it sounds like air in the line.

I don't think the HKS Zero-R counts as a rare *Nissan* product, as it was produced by HKS based on a standard production model R32 GT-R. I'm thinking closer to home, and within the S30-series Z range. Top of the rarity pile for me - and qualifying as a truly special model in terms of spec and details - is the PS30-SB 'Fairlady Z432-R'. Quite, quite different from the PS30 'Fairlady Z432', and only a handful sold to the general public for road use. Certainly less than 20 examples.

Nice work! 3 decades ago when I used to design /build / fix amps (long story), your best friend was a signal generator and an oscilloscope. Do you have access to at least the latter? It’s the only way to truly troubleshoot a circuit like that. Having said that you are making great progress. I would say if two speakers were connected, the final stage amp would be fried and the Darlington transistor or pre-power stage op-amp would also be toast. Very often when a power amp / transistor is overloaded, it pulls way too much current on its collector and effectively shorts out what ever is feeding it. Watching with interest. Now don’t swear at me but I replaced all the old electronics with new in mine; with microswitches behind the FM/AM buttons so everything looks totally stock and all the knobs switches function as they should but I get 20W RMS x2, half decent sound and connection to my iPhone so I can hear the Satnav over the exhaust [emoji12]. Somehow sad that all that lovely design and beautiful engineering you see nowadays fits on a chip or two. Good luck and well done for the great trouble shooting to date!
