Hi Folks, I am having a heck of a time trying to find out info on how to make a '77 280z tach work in a 1972 240z Scarab convert. The vehicle has a 327 Chevy motor with an Accel 71000 series Magnetic Breakerless (Hall effect) distributor and an Accel Super Coil, model 140001, no HEI module, and a large gap in the wiring harness where the old tach hooked up. I still have the old tach, but I don't think it is good for anything but the housing. Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I am the owner of a '72 Z-car with a Scarab V8 conversion. It has been a very interesting car with a rather unique personality. The car itself has an interesting history, with myself being the third owner since its conversion. The car started out in stock form, somewhere in California. The original owner, a good friend of mine, was stationed at Fort Ord and purchased the car new sometime during '72. The car and its first owner made it back to New York in late '76. The car was then continuously driven by the second owner, the younger brother of the original owner. Anyway, to make a long story even longer, There was a third brother who didn't own the Z, but instead owned …

It looks like this may be an original Scarab on eBay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-Z-Series-1-OF-18-1976-DATSUN-Z-ORIGINAL-CALIFORNIA-SCARAB-CAR-153_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6187QQihZ012QQitemZ220267073326QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW Sounds like it doesn't have the original engine installed by Scarab, though. Not sure how that effects the value, or even what the value of these cars are. -Mike

Greetings all, Attached are two scans from the Nov. 1971 issue of Hot Rod magazine, featuring a 240Z powered by a small block Chevy. This was years before the Scarabs appeared. (You may have to save the files to your computer in order to zoom in.) This is the earliest reference to a V8 Z that I know of. Enjoy!

I have most of the scans done on all my original Scarab brochures and install instructions. I have a kit car, not a numbered vehicle, however its from San Jose and the owner managed to acquire several pieces not normally for sale. Its currently in rough unrestored shape and Im moving as fast as funds will allow . Interestingly enough in this documentation you can see how scattered scarab really was, there are two distinct versions of the valve covers between these two ads. I have yet another version that appears to be either a knockoff or an early prototype of the later valve covers(6 fin). Mine are the original edelbrock casting with the scarab bad…

Hey everybody, haven't been around here in a while. Here are some pics of Scarab #154. I completed the suspension rebuild back in the spring. I also located and restored an original set of Scarab valve covers and ran across an original unused radiator. All the brakes received attention too. I rebuilt the original front 4 piston FIA calipers with a NOS seal kit, one piston had to be replaced due to pitting that could not be polished out. Please PM me with any questions you may have. Enjoy!!! Reason suspension needed rebuilding... Suspension before: Suspension parts soaking in EZ off. After: Valve covers before and after: Close up Exhaust cleaned u…

Hi all, I am looking for anything to do with the SCARAB modifications to the Z. They had quite a following in the 70's and I want to collect as much information as possible. A few years ago I saw a very nice Scarab conversion at the Motorsport Nationals. I'll find a link to the images and post them in this thread. But, if you have collected any data on this please post it. I would like to see original ads for the Scarab cars as well as any parts or specifications. Oh, and pictures!!!
