I'm rebuilding the suspension (bushings, springs, shocks, etc.) on my 9/73 260Z and I just ran into something unsettling. I installed Tokico HPs and Eibachs which are both listed as compatible with the 240Z and early 260Z. When I put in the HP inserts, the gland nuts almost bottomed out. They are tightened but very close to the strut top even with the gland nut spacer. But this is not the main problem. While I was putting the springs on I noticed that my 260Z spring perch sits noticeably lower than the 240Z struts I have to compare with. I decided to go on anyway, because the springs are listed as the same for the 240/260Z (early). I installed the struts on the car (ARB …

I am sure this has been covered but wanted to share anyway. Since I have owned the car it has had the same tires on it, they were fairly new looking when I go the car a few years ago. The car has always had a slight shake or shimmy I guess you would call it that would cause the steering wheel to shake MOST TIMES around 40-45 mph. That is it would almost always have this shake but not always. After going thru all the front end parts looking for an issue, including take the wheels off and having them re balanced, I finally decided to try some new tires/rims. This dates back to when we had a 1974 260z that did the same exact thing, it came from the dealer with turbine r…

I have done a few hours of reading on here and some at HybridZ on sway bars. I am looking at ordering a sway bar kit. I always felt like the stock setup rolled too much. There are a number of people with kits listed, but It seems there are like basically 3 choices: The ST kit with the rear bar behind the differential and custom "Transverse brace plates" $320-356 The FutoFab orange bars with the rear bar behind the differential $450 but the rear bar is back ordered The MSA kit which looks to have the rear bar forward of the diff and the floor has to be drilled $220 How many of you are running front and rear bars? …

Here is a great link to a "HOW TO" pictorial of replacing Rear Wheel Bearings on an S30. It has a lot of pictures so it will take a bit of time to fully load, but it looks to be a very good resource. I saved it to my hard drive in case it disappears from the Net before I get around to doing this job. If anyone who is experienced with doing this job cares to comment on the tutorial, those of us who haven't done it will appreciate your "constructive comments". :classic: Replacing S30 Rear Wheel Bearings

I've gone thru and replaced all of the "soft goods" pieces of my front suspension ('71 Series II) and have finally got it all reassembled. I should have bought L & R stamps and stamped everything as I took it off because, ultimately, I got it all mixed up but finally sorted in the end. All back together now but a couple of questions. The compression rods that locate the transverse link have tightened up at different locations. The left side is even with the nut, the right side is about a half inch further out. I measured the distance between the lower control arm and the frame mount on each side and it's the same. Is it possible the rods are two different len…

I recently took off the Castle nut that holds the tie rod to the knuckle and the threads got messed up. I bought a replacement M12x1.25 castle nut but it is too tall for the cotter pin to be used. Does anyone know where I can buy one of the shorter style castle nuts? Or should I just buy a M12x1.25 tap? Here is the new vs. old, as you can see the new is about twice as tall.

Anyone know offhand how long the threaded portion of the inner tie rod is on a 240Z? Added camber with new lower control arms and need to adjust toe out quite a bit more. Want to make sure I do not go too far for safety reasons of course. Thanks.

Last year I installed Vogtland springs and KYB shocks. This spring I took it out for a run and noticed it seemed to be riding very rough in the front. When I got back I noticed the front end is now very low. Hmmm, took a look see and the front springs look to be almost fully compressed. Rears are still fine. I see nothing wrong so I sent the photos to Vogtland. They said the shocks could have failed. Even if they did, in my mind shocks do not carry much if any weight. The springs support a car. Going to start to pull one side apart today.
