Electronic ignition upgrade advice wanted
I like your comment. “It’s part of the game” I bought the car from my neighbor around the corner less than a mile away drove it around the block and then home then started taking things apart. So really I have no idea if it’s a good functional distributor or not.🙂

205 60R 15 Tires
Well if you think the steering is heavy with the 195 width the 205 should be heavier and the ride will be somewhat rougher. My thinking on tires for these older cars that haven't been modified is mixed. If you want to experience the drivability that Datsun intended you should stick to the original size as closely as possible. That's important to some, not to others. In todays market this really limits the availability of the tires and there in lies another issue. I too have an unmodified Z and just ordered some new wheels and tires for it. Based on tires available I ended up going with a 16" Panasports and 205/55 ultra high performance all-season tires. Nothing crazy but it should tighten up the response some without sacrificing all of the true Z feel. I know this last paragraph doesn't answer your question, just food for thought. Good luck!

FS5C71B // EU transmission 5th gear issue
Yes! I had a long time ago a 280zx, and it kept going out of 5th gear when decellerating. i lengtened the spring (by a few mm) of the 5th gear and the problem was solved! You live in Germany, i live in Limburg near the border of Germany! If i go 2 km to the east i'm in Germany! (Kreis Kleve!) Maybe your in the neighberhood?

What size bolts will fit?
And there is that thread on the valve cover breather and trying to find something that will convert it to AN or NPT to run a catch can hose. Seen infinite discussions about it, what folks did to change it, and even some fitting for RB engines someone found that fits, but still waiting to have the actual size stated.

Tools. Did not realize this had happened
I remember reading an industry website several years ago where the writer predicted that the only distinction between mainstream brands of power tools would be aesthetics (colours, textures, legacy, etc). Looking at what I see in 2025's North American market, I'm inclined to agree. But I think that only applies to ~ revered old-school USA brands like Porter, DeWalt, B&D, etc. For comparison, look at what's happened to old-school non-automotive brands like 'Schwinn', 'Singer', 'Sunbeam', 'GE', 'RCA', etc. Offshore' brands (Bosch and Makita come to mind) might have a little more to offer than just marketing. Unfortunately, there's no universally-accepted evaluation standard. These days, it's just the 'Wild Wild West' of YouTube evaluators Caveat emptor.

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Hi, I have worked some minor things for mirrors, horns etc. Fairlady Z series has mirrors on the front fenders and the way they mount is completely different from the one for the US. Mirrors have to be flexible when they hit something. The horn, the Higher tone has “H” and te lower tone has “L” shown on the bracket. You see S12, I am sure S means 1969, 12 means December. It makes sense to my 01/1970 Z432. My two 03/1970 cars have T2, indicating 1970 February. Also my 1972 June 240ZG has V6, The rules seemed to apply for all of my cars. Kats

EVENT REPORT: R’s Day 2025 at Laguna Seca
http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/SnapInsta.to_590403397_18560530330016849_3298998497662362018_n.jpg R’s Day, one of the largest gatherings of Nissan Skylines on the West Coast was held on December 7, 2025 at Laguna Seca Raceway. Z Car Garage attended the event and supported our client Kurt in his R32 GT-R. Rob brought out the Bay Area Datsun Dealers 510 and several ZCG clients all had a great time. Enjoy our report with photos and videos! http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/596416284_1157122896584001_5621242049901045764_n-scaled.jpg Kurt’s R32 GT-R We prepared Kurt’s R32 Skyline GT-R for the track day. Earlier in the year it received a fresh RB26 motor and turbo upgrade to complement the new KW coil-over suspension and Stoptech Big-Brakes…. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/438108220_815358800639294_6480240895979815802_n-1024x768.jpg Dyno tuning Kurt’s R32, volume up! Kurt enjoyed driving his R32 at Laguna Seca with fellow GT-R owners. Photos by gtrx.app, and you can see more of Kurt’s R32 on his Instagram http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/SnapInsta.to_590428538_18560530363016849_2218847423777744713_n.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/SnapInsta.to_590406174_18560530351016849_5487999445439520443_n.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/wubbs2.jpg Rob’s Vintage Racing Datsun 510 We also dyno’d Rob’s B-Sedan vintage racing Datsun 510: Here’s Rob’s report from R’s Day… ROB: Cooper and I loaded the BAAD car to Laguna Seca, our home track during the vintage race season. It was really fun to bring out my Datsun 510 race car with all those cool street cars. We had Dirk stoop in his 1973 Datsun 240z, Amy in her RZ34, Joseph in the RZ34 # 49 car, and a few others including Miles’ R32. Our main focus was to support Kurt in his R32 GT-R which has been modified and tuned by ZCG, full report coming to zcarblog.com soon. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/596942360_10238461141688187_7814434091876627251_n.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/SnapInsta.to_591162581_18419247880143856_4268933485607930899_n.jpg I’ve been to a few R’s day and this was the first time I’ve driven. Each event has seen a steady increase in attendance and it was the most R32, R33 or R34s I’ve ever seen. It was incredible to be in a paddock filled with lots of cool Nissans… There was Pat’s RB-powered Pat’s Kenmeri (featuring our ZCG CV Axles): http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/SnapInsta.to_589093749_18552028108039976_7175006735271616214_n.jpghttp://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/SnapInsta.to_589973532_18419247967143856_9150614512256774434_n.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/IMG_7705.jpg All kinds of really cool cars and kudos to the R’s Day team as they were just super organized: the meetings and downloads were quick and informative. I love their grid process. Everything was just wonderful and we will definitely be back next year. Kurt’s car rocked. There were some pretty fast cars including Charles Park from Powertrix with their time-attack R35 tuned by SpecialtyZ. Sean Morris and Brian J from Top Rank, people from all over the California GTR scene. Todd Lapin from Norcal Skylines cooked HotPot in the garages! It was just a very festive, community-oriented vibe and I had a blast. Dirk’s 1973 Datsun 240Z http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/IMG_0866.jpg Dirk’s 1973 Datsun 240Z features Z Car Garage Big-Brakes (StopTech), Z Car Garage CV Axles, Silvia 6-speed transmission and a host of chassis and driveline upgrades. Rob dyno tuned the 3.0L Rebello L-series engine with triple-Mikuni ph44 carbs, making 265hp/231tq at the wheels. We prepared the Z for R’s Day and Dirk had a great time: DIRK: Yeah dude, massive difference! Work done by ZCG just before the day: 1. New rear sway bar (ST suspensions), car did not have one before, last Sonoma track day, being able to rotate the car on entry was difficult, this change was made to help that 2. New RE-71RS tires, Rob found old tires were pretty much spent, Dirk ordered tires, car stayed at ZCG an extra day so that they could be installed before the track day 3. Suspension and brake inspection 4. Change diff and trans fluids Car rotated much better with the new rear sway bar, now able to rotate just by lifting off throttle in turns, quicker, and more fun. Felt great, very predictable and forgiving at the limit. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Screen-Shot-2025-12-15-at-6.19.13-PM.pngPhotos by sflcks and Cooper: http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/SnapInsta.to_597933629_17903020968331474_1257207621205123712_n-e1765851962941.jpghttp://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/IMG_7716.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/IMG_7712.jpghttp://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/596192215_1250520820456421_1425496455254863830_n-1.jpg Joseph’s 2023 Nissan Z http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/IMG_8638.jpg Joseph’s 2023 Nissan Z proudly wearing the Joel Anderson-inspired #49 livery: JOSEPH: It was a beautiful day at Laguna Seca (as if anything else is possible) with GT-Rs from every era, as far as the eye could see! There was also a very famous 510 in the mix…The #49 new Z ran great on its new 18×10.5 SSR wheels (275-35-18 Nitto NT01), but the day was cut short by cleanup of an oil spill from turn 6 to turn 10, and one of my brake pads deciding to delaminate in the heat on the way into turn 2. We’re putting race pads on next time! I made my goal of breaking 1:50, so I left with a smile on my face anyway. CAR STALLS WHILE DRIVING!!!
I posted a recent issue with my Mallory ignition. The Uni-lite ignition module would test bad when the car would stop working but after it sat for awhile it would test fine and the car would run again. After changing the ignition module a couple of times, and with some input from this forum, it turns out that a PO installed a second shunt resistor in series with the first one. I removed the second resistor and so far the car has been working. I think the issue with the shunt was that on removing it, I observed the exposed coil of wire in the shunt was damaged and likely was not giving a constant resistance, possibly no continuity at times. Even if you have just the single shunt resistor, if it fails like this one did, it might cause the same issue.

The bracket isn't on my 12/70 car either, could have been deleted when that hose was replaced. But from your reference picture it appears to be a early car as it has the metal fan.
