  2. Thanks for posting this. I am mid-stream in importing my 1977 280Z into Italy and will read this with great interest. There will be some mods I have to make to conform with EU road standards.
  3. The pictures are fantastic on this listing. As one of the commenters posted "I can zoom right in" and see the detail. One of the things I've only seen once before is the clip holding the two choke cables together: Anyone else have one on their car?

Acorn nut is no longer needed. @jfa.series1 was able to source one. Many thanks my friend!
  6. I put the progress dealing with the prop shaft and transmission and differential angles in another forum thread. While I was repainting the driveshaft, I also painted the front grill. The front grill, rear tail light trim panels and the hub caps all share the same paint. I bought the paint for these near the beginning of my restoration. If I recall correctly, I told the paint supply place the info for the color that is in the How to Restore your Z Car book. I painted the grill, but the color was too light - it was too grey, at least comparing to my original, not repainted hubcap. I got some crap in it too. So, repainting was necessary. This time, I took a guess, and added 10% of black paint (by weight) to make it darker. I think it came out a bit too dark, but I like it a lot more than what it was. I think I will experiment a bit more with it, adding maybe 5% of black and seeing how that looks. Then, I will repaint the tail light trim panels and possibly the hub caps as well.

The Historic B-Sedan group had a solid turnout—about the same size and pace as the Vintage B-Sedan/Miata Group 3. Thanks to Rob’s fantastic coaching and support, I was able to set a personal best lap time on Sunday morning and held my spot in the top half of the group. I had a blast trading positions on track with Dave Stone, Glen Chiou, Kelvin Tse, and Jeff Rothman. Huge thanks to the ZCG team for their top-notch car support and coaching throughout the weekend. This is an organization dedicated to the racing exhibitions of 1966–1979 Historic SCCA B-Sedan, C-Sedan, Trans-Am Under-2-Liter, and Two-Five Challenge race cars: GLENN: Since 2018, we have partnered with premier racing organizations such as the Velocity Invitational, CSRG, SVRA, and others to present thrilling run groups that celebrate these iconic machines. Our mission is rooted in honoring the history, camaraderie, and spirit of safe, respectful racing—with a healthy dose of serious fun. The David Love Vintage Races were a perfect showcase of that mission. With around twenty historic sedans in attendance—including Alfa, BMW, Datsun, Mini, and more—we delivered an exhilarating exhibition of vintage racing. Partnering with CSRG and Sonoma Raceway made for a fantastic weekend shared with friends and family. While the David Love Vintage Races was HBC’s only event for 2025, we have big plans for 2026! Not an easy task so we applaud his work ethic. Glenn builds some beautiful Datsuns and we thank him for organizing the Historic B&C Sedan group to keep the spirit of Trans Am racing alive. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/DSC02231.jpg Rob Fuller recaps the event: ROB: Ross Lindell was in the Randy Pobst National Championship-winning Miata (1992), Lora in her Miata and myself my Miata for Vintage Spec Miata. For Datsuns there was the special HBC run group that was super fun. Kenny and Noah were cooking. Kenny, Noah and Tom Dockery all got their PBs. It felt really great to get the Miata back on the track again. Lora was passing people for the first time, that’s huge milestone. We had just gone through Ross’ car and he was super happy with the setup and dyno tune. The weather was absolutely perfect and the run groups filled with beautiful cars. Glenn was out there, Frank Z in his 510, Alfa boys Chet Taylor from SoCal. Wonderful weekend with good times had by all. The Corkscew Classic event at Laguna Seca is coming up next. Lora recalls a memorable moment: “One of the highlights was meeting a little boy who was celebrating his fourth birthday. All he wanted was to come to the racetrack and see a race car for his birthday. It was so heartwarming to share that moment with him, and he even asked for a picture with my race car and with me, the “race car driver”! It was such a surreal and adorable experience. I think my red Miata must remind children of the red car from the Disney movie Cars! That moment was so unexpected and enjoyable” Super cool to see our client Linda Williams’ 1972 Datsun 240Z OMS Pace Car Duplicate participating in the John Streets Memorial parade lap aside fellow Datsuns/Nissans. 11. No problem, it looks like I was duped by the bot post. You apparently had resolved this a year ago... lol

  13. Thank You!!! I was finally able to source a Bosch plastic housing replacement relay on eBay marketed as a VW part. It arrived on Tuesday, and I installed it today. I knew that was it when I turned the key and heard the hum of fuel pump. Once I added some fresh fuel to the tank, I turned the key, watched the fuel pressure gauge climb up to 36 PSIG, and the L28 started and ran! I do need to still do some troubleshooting and fix the backfiring and high idle, but those seem like much smaller challenges now that I have a running car again. Apologies to my neighbors, I think the whole community heard my hollers of joy and elation when the Z fired up this afternoon! A small victory, but a much-needed win for me today with all that has been going on at work.

  15. Thanks Paul and Mike.... BTW.... I have been on this site for 18yrs since owning my 1973 240z, and it's been so helpful in allowing me to bring it up to reliable standards while preserving the authentic look. This is an awesome website!!
  16. Soccer's a gamble. I felt lucky to have made it through the years with none of the major long-term injuries. I did have to do some PT on a knee. My doctor had been a college athlete and had the "suck it up and take some Advil" attitude. So I went in to weekend warrior mode and tried to tough it out. He sent me to PT when I went back a month later and showed him that the thigh on the injured leg was about 2/3 the size of the good one. The PT shop owner used to do the Cleveland Browns football team. Got me straightend up pretty quick but it still wouldn't bend as far as the other one for about three years. And the tough-it-out doctor was afraid of blood. Later, after the knee, he refused to remove the stitches in my chin because the tails were cut too short (forgot to mention the chin. And the broken collar bone.) and there would be blood if he had to dig them out. I had to go to the drug store and buy some tweezers and pointy scissors to dig them out myself. There was blood. Good times.

I don't think it's an original Nissan hatch seal, as it's sold by the metre. But it sure is better than what I had. It's not a simple seal swap like it would be for the doors. There's 6 interior panels to remove, then the adhesive. Then there's all those push pin clips, oh, I found out where some of those pins are going, I found the mother load. I think I got 14 of them from this one spot with a piece of radiator hose taped to my shop vac and a piece of screen taped over the end.

  19. This one is available in Australia; I havent seen it in person. https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/burwood/engine-engine-parts-transmission/240z-260z-2-seater-oem-replica-complete-standard-exhaust-system-datsun/1305228725
  20. I don't think you are supposed to put them on a car. I think they are intended to be wall art. 😂
  21. Recently, a friend and I were working on the 240Z Original R180 differential and we both were not happy with neither the state of the original factory-installed differential strap belt, nor with the replacement options. None of the available replacements look anything close to the original belts. After a b it of research, my friend found this one on AliExpress, which is some sort of V-belt or something: https://de.aliexpress.com/item/1005006145171328.html make sure to order the 12ribs pk560 type. NOTE: We realized all original belts had different lengths (probably due to wear and tear), so make sure to measure your original one (best done with a piece of tape) before you order. I also cannot guarantee that this will fit perfectly and was not able to install it yet. But so far it looks pretty good: The only problem: the replacement belt has some pretty colorful markings on the outside and is quite shiny. I tried different things, but the best to get rid of it was simply to sand it off with some 80-grit paper: After some manual attempts, I chose the belt-sander to get rid of the rest. Be careful to sand off a minimum only, if you remove too much material, the woven white threads inside the rubber will become visible. Not what you want. And here is the result: Left AliExpress replacement original, Center: Aliexpress sanded down. Right: Original Nissan Belt. I'm quite satisfied, and so far it looks like the most OEM-looking option I have seen so far. Somewhere in future, we'll see how well it fits, too :-)
  22. Update: My new alternator came in and when I tested the voltage regulator cap the leads that go to the diode read OL in one direction and when I switched the leads it read 0.597 V. That is what a diode should do. Low and behold the alternator is now outputting voltage. :) Problem solved. Now I have a spare alternator :)

Yesterday i warned a guy on a bicycle NOT to use his phone (he said for navigating) as it will cost him €480,- if he gets caught.. a few years ago a cycle racer almost drove over me wgen i was crossing the road.. i did this on purpose because i wanted to see if he noticed me.. he didn't and i shouted at him scaring the hell out of him! Personelly i think there must come a law where people have to put all their phones in a special pocket in the boot while driving, so they are not thempted to look at it! And if one still uses a phone while having a steering wheel of just a steer on the bike in hands i think the penalty should be €960,- (In our country cyclists are seen as drivers, and if they come from the right they have the right of way at an intersection of equal status!)

In addition to being a proud Nissan North America employee, he is an avid car enthusiast with a passion for Nissans and Datsuns, having owned a 240Z, 350Z and Hakosuka Skyline. Jonathan recently acquired this QM1 White R34 Skyline GT-R from our friend Sean at Toprank International Vehicle Importers, and came to Z Car Garage for upgrades and dyno tuning. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/SnapInsta.to_351756869_571155608528610_6805297484070822199_n.jpg JONATHAN: My history with Nissan and Z cars started before I was even born. My dad had purchased a 240Z in Ojai, California in 1978 while in the Navy and daily drove it until 1998. There are pics of me as an infant of me in it and when I was old enough to go to daycare, he would take me in the Z. Growing up around it, helping him work on it and wanting to ride in it as much as possible shaped my love for not only cars, but the Datsun/Nissan brand and especially the Z. When I got old enough to start thinking about my first car, my dream was to get the newly launched 350Z to go along with my dad’s 240Z. I was drawn to the Le Mans sunset orange launch color and fell even more in love with that color when I got to see it in person at my local grocery store. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/SnapInsta.to_132696088_426127768436159_1139283343644033895_n.jpg As it so happened though, on my 15th birthday, my dad surprised me by gifting me the 240Z! I was in shock but so excited to work on it with him, restoring it to this level I had built up in my head for years. The project took 3 years and by the time I was a senior in high school, we had finished it… Painting it my favorite Le Mans sunset orange and building it out just as I had imagined as a young kid. It was totaled and was a huge loss for myself and my family. I knew I needed to find another special Nissan. Below you will see how this situation shaped how I got into the Skyline’s, specifically my Hako and now the R34 GT-R. However, between the ownerships of the Hako and the R34, my wife found this beautiful 2003 Z33 350Z in my favorite color, Le Mans Sunset. I had always wanted this car since I was 13 and it was the spitting image of (a newer version) of my old 240Z. A great bookend to a Z journey that lasted over 34 years. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/SnapInsta.to_475171980_18481381894037469_6796212038058252544_n.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/SnapInsta.to_383851406_336029832162958_1096898292016150724_n.jpg GT-R Dreams http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/IMG_8777.jpg JONATHAN: My love for the R34 Skyline started I believe with the rest of my generation, 2 Fast 2 Furious. That scene where Brian drives through Miami to get to the race at the beginning will forever be reason for my Skyline love. I also remember watching old Hot Versions on YouTube with the MINES R34 GT-R going against the Amuse MK4 Supra. The sound from the exhaust and the feedback from the drivers made it clear that not only was it the winner in that episode, it was the winner of the JDM legends of its time. It was only natural to want one growing up, but as prices increased, it became clear that it would just be a dream. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/SnapInsta.to_330640336_1364576187632531_7825474603062231957_n.jpg My journey really began on a vacation just after the Z accident, my wife and I were looking at the back of one of my JDM Legends t-shirts that had a Hakosuka Skyline on it. We looked at each other and said “Thats the car”. At that point, we had no idea where to even begin to look for a Hako but we both knew that was the direction we wanted to go. She knew I had always loved the Skylines, but the Hako (aside from the R34 GTR) always was a favorite. After a few months, Jonathan reached out to friend (Randy Jaffe) with a collection of Nissan’s and Datsuns including a 1971 Nissan Skyline that Z Car Garage had worked on! They discussed for a while, and one afternoon the Hako was headed to TN. Jonathan was excited for the opportunity to be the next caretaker of this beloved Skyline. He enjoyed the car for several months, driving it to shows, and really getting to know the chassis. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/A0663221-E3DF-4557-8BB5-DA672E27D537-3.jpg JONATHAN: Just when I was getting comfortable though, I received a call from the sales director at Toprank International Vehicle Importers, who I had built a good relationship with. He asked if I would be interested in selling my Hako to a big Skyline collector in Texas (the Hako returned to Z Car Garage, full report coming soon!). After talking it over and coming up with a good deal, I made the decision to sell the Hako and purchase a bone stock, 1-owner R34 GT-R from Top Rank’s inventory in Japan. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/SnapInsta.to_351716536_1965356540465877_4097935944533235490_n.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/SnapInsta.to_352552391_623108886411257_2846414832913894330_n.jpg Top Rank brokered the deal and made the process so easy. I knew though that I would have to wait until June of 2024 before it could be imported due to the 25-year law but it was so worth the wait and I cannot express how grateful I am to have been in a position for such an opportunity to be realized. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/SnapInsta.to_437545255_407071535419669_6982521441586894456_n.jpg Upgrades and Dyno Tuning at Z Car Garage http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/IMG_8419.jpg ROB: In the fall of 2024, Jonathan acquired his dream car, an R34 Skyline GT-R, from Top Rank Importers. They were having some issues and shipped it to Z Car Garage for minor sorting and upgrades… JONATHAN: One of the very first videos I saved on YouTube was a video of Rob driving the green 240Z with the RB25 swap. I knew then that Z Car Garage was the best and I always wanted to have a build done by them! After the R34 GT-R arrived stateside, I knew it had to go directly to ZCG. There was no other place I wanted to go and now having the car for a few days, driving it and really enjoying it, I made the absolute best decision. (Below) Jonathan visited us in 2022 for the Tokyo Calling Rally. We had to snap a photo with the Go Green RB25DET-powered 240Z that inspired to build one of his own…and 1/24 scale the model I made http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/IMG_9114-1-1024x768.jpeg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/IMG_9112-1-1024x768.jpeg At the shop we installed a Haltech Elite 2500 with plug ‘n’ play adapter, dual wide-band controller, one-step colder NGK plugs, ID 1300 injectors, Wallbro Hellcat Fuel pump, Z Car Garage Bosch relay kit and KOYO Race radiator: http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/DSCN3745.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/IMG_9229-rotated.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/IMG_4093.jpg More upgrades included an HKS FMIC, Greddy BOV, PRP R35 coil packs, Wiring Specialities injector resistor bypass kit and a Haltech boost controller followed by dyno tuning. So you know what we did? We performed a Garrett turbo upgrade with supporting mods and tuned it again. It was wonderful and it rocks. We feel very honored: even though Jonathan lives in TN he trusts ZCG to work on his new R34. We shipped the car back with Masney and everyone’s happy. Long Live The R!” http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/DSCN4089.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/DSCN4111.jpghttp://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/DSCN4107.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/DSCN4124.jpg Engine bay with new intake plumbing: http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/IMG_5569.jpg On the dyno, baseline numbers were 336hp/281tq at the wheels. After tuning with the turbo and supporting upgrades the Skyline put down 438hp/333tq at the wheels. QM1 is a fantastic color for this GT-R: http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/processed-FF027A96-6BE3-49F9-A9DF-63A1A0C4EB17.jpeg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/SnapInsta.to_491430585_18497487355037469_8945255357554638385_n.jpg JONATHAN: Since leaving ZCG, I have added a few small mods including the V-Spec front diffuser, NISMO shift know, pedals, double din head unit and a few engine bay dress up items. In the future I will look to add a V-spec rear carbon diffuser, maybe a Z-tune hood and perhaps maybe a little more power. Otherwise, drive and enjoy! 28. Has anyone worked out the significance of these casting marks on the master cylinder? What are yours? This pic is from my May 71 car, but who knows if it is is the original one. :-(
  29. Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I'll be checking in every few months as I prepare to get the old girl back on the road. The Camaro comes first since it's the closest to being roadworthy. It just needs a new wiring harness, which I already have, a different offset for the front wheels to eliminate rub on turn/compression, and some exhaust work. The Datsun however needs more attention after sitting for the last ~18 years and being partially disassembled at one point. Sad I know., but I'll get it going again. Man I can't believe how time has flown... Weeks seem to go by like days and years like months.... At this rate I won't have time to work on this thing until I'm retired.....which can't come soon enough by the way...
