You are wise beyond your years, sir. I don't know if you can make a "Sports car" with the couple of thousand (if not more) safety and environ requirements tacked on. There are some that are close. That stripped down, sports package Corvette maybe? (Z06?)

Malder, Are you happy with the existing paint? Rust? It's a major commitment doing the "real deal". Look at what your starting with and decide if you'll be happy with the rolling refresh job. Come over and take a look at mine. It hasn't stoped rolling and gets better every day - BUT - I bought the car specificly for this purpose. Sure, it would be a show stooper with the total restore. But, I got just what I wanted., a car I could drive and get all the "Hey! That's a nice Z!" rewards. If I started with a car that really needed paint, I'd would have needed to go the "Whole Enchalada". I'll never win any shows as it's still a "10 footer" (looks great at 10 feet). No matter which way you choose, it still cost lots. I know I spent a few "pretty pennies" . This is evident to anyone that reads my journal:classic:

Hey! I hope you guys come see us Downtown Solvang for our Roadster Show Saturday, The same weekend as the Motorsports Auto Show (April 27th?) . I intend to drive up to Solvang (Motel 6 in Beulton) on Friday, Show on Saterday, Drive home, catch a little sleep, Drive to Orange for the Motorsports show on Sunday. Wow! What a weekend.

What ever happened to the Kiwi or Aussie Band, "The Cedrics"? Are they "The Datsuns" now? Our modern rock radio staion, KROQ, has a segment for the afternoon drive, called "Catch of the Day", where they play an obscure track. About a month ago, "The Datsuns" were featured. The DJ panned them calling them "Throwback" and he was going to Throw their album back into the dust bin.

I'll comment on this, because I just went on a quest for chrome carriage bolts. I wanted 1/4 and 5/16 chrome carriage bolts to replace the bolts that hold the end pieces of the rear bumper on and four 5/16 bolts to fill the holes from the overriders. You'd think that in a city like Los Angeles, this would not be hard to find. I went from Hardware store to another, Auto part stores, hot rod shops, even a Harley shop - no avail. I finally found them in the largest independent hardware store in town. For those in my area, It was Virgil's Hardware in Glendale.

It's obvious that My alt in my 72 is on it's way out. Would I benefit from a slighty higher output alt? VickyBrit offers 2 choices. but I'd like it to look close to original. I could just get one of my old units rebuilt. If you think that paragraph is confusing, you should see the mess in my head!

An Infinity is as much a Nissan as a Datsun is. A brand name of a manufacturer. A rose by any other name? In the Datsun era, The Nissan badge was reserved for the upper market cars. Then, suddenly, they were all Nissans. Obviously, GM doesn't want to market Cadillacs as Chevrolets. Nissan needed a new upscale brand name as well. The 350Z and the G35 are just variants of the same car, yes? I don't know. How deep does it go? When does the body shell become a G35 or a 350Z. Even further back, in the basic shell component pressings? At the last Turfside show in Escondido, The 350Z and G35 were side by side. My car was about 20 feet from them. I heard many a die hard Z FANATIC walk pass and say "I'd chose the G35". I think if the Central Coast Club excludes a G35, the world would not end. And, vise versa.

The U-20 was only used in the Sports 2000. A rare beast indeed. They only made 14,000 SRL (2000) roadsters. Anyone wonder why my timing components cost me $1,400? Sill, it a beautifull engine that I will continue to pay the cost to hear it sing.

Victor, I have that very set-up in my 72. Nissan "matchbook" EI, 12 volt coil, no ballast resistor. The fellow that I bought the distributor kit from, (Gary Boone) warned me that I MIGHT have a problem with the tach. But After installation, No problem. Then, when I scapped my first 72, I swapped the whole set up into the new Lime Green 72 and still had no problem.

The only V8 powered Z cars the I would valuate high as collectable would be a "period" swap factory Scarab or a well done modified show winner such as V8 Show Car

Remove the drive belt. diconnect and plug the hoses. Keep everything in place and connect it all back before inspection. How's that for a plan. I keep all my smog equipment ..... in a box, under the shop table

No, not a moon rover. It does look like an FJ though. Albeit smoother, rounder. It would appear that Toyota went Retro correctly, catching the true sprit of the classic, unlike "some other" automobile manufacturers.

Of Course, Enrique is absolutely right. I did not admit in my first reply that I kept clicking on the young lady in hopes that her outfit would vanish. Over the last decade or so, I became no longer ashamed of being hoplessly male.

I believe they are silk screened onto the glass. I've tested mine and can find no continuity anywhere! So, I'm thinking, all that I have left is the tracing of where the silver paint was once. Looks like I'll be painting the entire grid back. Got to remmember not to drink too much coffee on that day. Got to keep a steady hand.

Just to add - My problem is EVERYTHING dims and/or slows when the car idles. So far, this is want I've done- Refreshed the grounds - harness ground on the right side rail (near the starter), Firewall ground (straight to the - post) Replaced every fuse with new replaced fusebox with new. Swapped voltage regulator with another used unit that worked well in my last Z. Cleaned headlight, front turn and front marker connectors when I had the front of the car apart I still have the problem at this point. I've got to keep my idle up around 1,200 or the headlights dim, the turn signals, heater fan and wipers slow to almost nothing and the Amp gauge dips deep into discharge. ---- Things I plan to do - clean every light socket. Install the relay modification - Just got a beautifull set of Hella relays today. - I want to do this cause I got a set of H-4's waiting to be installed.

Enrique, What about the dash harness/engine harness connector on the right side foot well? Should we dissassmble and clean that as well? Any guide to identify that connector?

I believe Nissan knew what they were doing by exporting the 240's with the missing "Sports car" equipment (rear sway bar, 5 speed, lower rear ratio). Why should they have? What did Americans know about sports cars anyway? Now, I'm not talking about people like us. We are a nitch market at best. In the 60's, 70's and 80's, American (taken as a whole) wanted "Sporty" cars, not Sports cars. comfortable cars with a sporty look. "Look at me!" I'm young and sporty!" What would have been the cost benifit of installing equipment the main body of buyers would not have appriciated in the first place? Then there's the market in Europe, who I'm sure Nissan felt was smaller and more savy to what a sports car was about. The home market was VERY tiny. Those who could afford to buy an S30 wanted a Japanese supercar. The closer to the real thing, the acuall race cars winning the Japanese GP, the better. The HLS30 was not an "American car built in Japan", It was a Japanese sports car, dressed down and packaged for the American market.

The Internet can be a usefull thing, right? I wanted to find out the bulb #s (1157, 1158 for example) for all the signal and marker bulbs on the 240. I searched this site and aboutl a dozen others and came up with nada. Let's make a list of all the bulbs on the 240Z and place it in an FAQ somewhere. If you know of a bulb designation, please add it in your comments.
