  2. You might want to try one of the rust dissolver products from Eastwood or maybe even CLR to clean the hinge
  3. It is not surprising how expensive Datsun parts are in Europe. Salvage yards are common here in the states and I even know of yards that have cars from the 40's and 50's. Europe has gone out of it's way to discourage this and the shortage of used parts has made the prices high. If you ever need something shoot me a PM. I might be able to help but can't do anything about the import taxes. I wonder how many of the salvage cars that are sold here in the states are sent to Europe with "washed" titles?

  5. So you heated the bolt cherry red or the surrounding metal? I would have thought when the bolts were that red they would be too soft to turn out. Did you let the dull down any first or just turned them out red? Did you use any oil on them while hot, I assume no? I need to get an Oxy/Acet bottle setup...bottle envy.

    Well we got Cody's car running a few weekends ago. We got the timing cover off and redid all those seals and reset the plunger. It has fixed the water consumption issue. We also found he was losing the rear brake circuit due to leaks. So we rebuilt all of the rear brakes. New shoes, wheel cylinders and hardware. I had Cody do most of it. He did good with it! We also put some new tires on it to prevent scrubbing in the wheel wells. It's a lot better but the right side that got hit still scrubs a little bit. He is happy to have his car back. A while back I worked on the grill and headlight buckets. I had Cody buff all of them. You have to buff them on a lower speed if possible. They are easily damaged if the wheel takes them away from you. Then I taped them all up so I could spray the black. I used the Eastwood satin black 2K. It looks good. We'll see how it holds up. It had mixed reviews, but so far I have gotten good results with it. I should have taken some pictures of them all taped up. I always get going and forget to do it. Here are some finished pictures: I bought some 1/4" pin striping tape which helped a lot on taping off the fine lines This last one peeled a little when the tape was removed. I think it did that because we didn't get all the buffing compound off before spraying them. Next on the list are some suspension repairs. the front struts seem shot, sway bar links are shot and the sway bar bushings will get redone too

I still need to check on the front calipers and the front rotors In the mean time I have been trying to get the rest of the suspension black so I can put it back down on some wheels I painted the last control arm today and polished some spindle pins. I have found many times they will polish up nicely. I use lots of anti seize on reassembly

  11. I will need to add some heat then. I had some adhesion problems on the ceiling so I removed it before adding the headliner. Didn't have as many concerns about the floor sections

  14. Nope!!! The goal is to make the car run good and burn cleanly with your carb setup. I think Mark has done a masterful job of helping you achieve that! The number of turns really isn't that important, and the carbs are not likely to have the exact same number of turns. Little variances in the float level, the float valves and the carbs themselves can cause the carbs to each be set a little different. These cars new had 0-60 times of between 8.6 to 10.2 seconds. There are plenty of modern cars, even cheap cars that are faster than this and the EFI also helps with the throttle response, because there is less delay and the fuel atomizes better under pressure. Even the 280ZX turbo only ran 0-60 in about 7.2 seconds. That is an average sort of time for a modern car. These are not modern cars and in my opinion there is no reason to try to make them modern cars. If you want it to respond like a modern car it takes a good bit of money and a good mechanic. From previous post I doubt you have an adequate mechanic available. As for tires you can take the current tire size and plug it into an online tire calculator and it will tell you what size tire you need for a 15" rim so the overall diameter is the same as the 14" rims you have now. That way you aren't changing the drive wheel gearing, so it doesn't reduce the performance

    I used the one from MSA in black. It was generously big. I had to trim it a little bit in placed. I don't know that most people would ever know it wasn't the stock one. I trimmed it after it was sort of glued in and we were tucking it in.

    I think you might need to do some reading. I did a search for the 10 best things to do in Japan and got a ton of articles. So lot's of options. I would prefer to find quieter places and things to see, myself. Not really into tons of people, which makes some of these Asian countries a challenging destination for me

  22. John aka Baddog is great but to the best of my knowledge he doesn't make floor pans. He does make some nice plates for beefing up the front end though

  24. Me too. I thought it wouldn't go much higher than the $5200 it was at when I first saw it. I thought $7000 would have been really good considering the missing engine and the extent of the damage. $9200 is a really strong number
  25. The car sold for $9,200 That's a good number for that car. This gives some perspective on the 3 cars in the field which are likely not much rustier but a little higher VIN numbers
