I don't recall. We may have to crack it back open and inspect it closer

That is possible but the clutch lever had alot of actuation when viewed directly at the transmission

I hate to add another large section to getting the car back on the road right now. I spent all weekend stripping the car. It goes to "paint jail" in a week. Presumably for 3 months or so. We'll see on that. I plan on trying to talk him into getting the hardware plated while the car is apart. I plan on exploring a professional plater in the area. I am still a little unsure about my DIY plating. Some of it seems to be very corrosion resistant others seem to fade early. We also have to go through all the hydraulics, wiring harness, heater system and other sundries

Doesn't grind. Might if you tried to force it. It just resists going into the gear. Same when shifting down. All the other gears were pretty smooth. I assume this is from being driven hard 1st -2nd. Less so in 3rd gear. The car was running terrible bad during the test so it wasn't very comprehensive

    That's very cool!
  6. Does she have the 5 speed? The timing chain on these motors can evidently be problematic

Which pieces are you looking for? 260z?
  8. The grease inside the half shafts can contain lead, so be mindful. Especially if you have little ones around!

How deep are the scratches? Some of that can be polished out
  10. The engine bay plate cleaned up good. What did you use? I have heard toothpaste works good...

At least we are communicating ? As my computers get smarter , my spelling gets worse! I have looked in the case but find it hard to tell how worn the parts are. I was running Redline MT90 in it. $62 a gallon
  12. Well you could add it to a Big Maxx 125k BTU unit to add ambiance!
  13. Did you call Z therapy? Many times they have it, even if it's not listed.

On another note we finally got the 5 speed in Codys car, right before we had to start disassembly for paint work. For the most part it drives ok except for 2nd gear. It's baulky going 1st - 2nd and 3rd -2nd. So how hard is it to replace the 2nd gear synchros? Does it make sense to just do the 2nd gear ones? If they are not too far in, I would almost rather do the 2nd gear synchros versus tearing the whole thing down while the car is in "paint jail". we had to fab a custom transmission mount because the 280zx is several inches longer than the 4 speed that was in there. We also had to get the drive shaft shortened too. Not a straight bolt in affair for any others who want to try it. We also had to cut the tunnel because the shifter comes up further back. We will weld in a piece up front to give a stock looking install

Is this flange supposed to be bent down on the fire wall behind the valve cover? I tried to look at some google images but wasn't sure that was how it was supposed to be

Keep me in mind when you can check. In the meantime I think I will pursue matching the missing springs. I got the one spring out. It is under a lot of pressure Free length is 51.4 mm OD is 27.3 mm Wire dia 3.25 mm Don't know on poundage. Can anybody get me going in the right direction?
  18. No offense to anyone, but if I'm going to pay for a panel, it needs to match the original closer than that. I can make that on my own...
  19. I think he actually hit the rev limiter. I heard that too. I was worried there for a minute when he came up on that bike on the left in the turn. That could have been ugly if the bike hadnt seen him. If that is the right driver with 4000 laps, it shows. Very confidant approaching turns and taking the line. I forgot to mention he ran down like 5 bikes. It's not easy to run down a bike unless they're not trying.
  20. You can also tell that that's not his first rodeo. He obviously knew the track and ran most of the lines pretty good except for slower traffic
  21. I used a Big Maxx vented propane unit. They work good and can be run on natural gas if it's available. They make a several sizes
  22. He's walking around some fast cars: a couple of M3's, Z06, 944 turbo, 911's at least one turbo, STi. Would be fun to have seen a speedo heads up for perspective
  23. Although this car is not a particularly low number car. I suspect lower number or earlier cars would only add to the premium
  24. Nice big shop with easy chairs, a fridge and a camper for when you're in the "doghouse", perfect!
  25. I am referring to the section of the inner fender that is always toast and is a compound shape
