  1. The closest thing I can think of are the nylon guides that is part of the window roller mechanism. They do tend to wear and break over time and have no place to go other than the bottom of the door.
  2. IMHO you will reap more advantages undercoating than not. Better sound insulation and more of a protective layer from flying debris that may chip your paint exposing bare metal to possible rust. Ultimately it's your call. Franky, I rather side on longevity over vanity especially on a section of the vehicle that is prone to road damage and really won't see unless one is crawling underneath.
  3. A strange location to hide keys seeing that you would have crawl under the car on your back and fumble around to find the container, if you were locked-out and couldn't pop open the hood from the inside.
  4. Older cars without catalytic converters are not going to burn newer fuel as efficiently. In fact, one of the main jobs of the catalytic converter is to change hydrogen sulfide into sulfur dioxide, which has no odor. I just returned from a local cars and coffee event and pretty much every car older than 1980 smelled like it was running rich while driving past. The bottom line is our Z cars will seem to run rich when compared to their newer contemporaries . Better to run it bit rich than going too lean and risk engine damage. IMHO
  5. The only time I experienced ATF being burned off by the carbs is when I overfilled it. Eventually the excess gets burned off. I would try running the carbs a bit leaner or maybe popping off the tops and re-seating the needles and see if anything changes.
  6. Time for some Xiaflex
  7. I believe it's a Trico 47-700
  8. I say buy a can of woolwax, give that area an annual spray and call it good 👍
  9. If you are not a stickler for originality, Redline makes some stuff out of real leather. I purchased a leather shifter and handbrake boot for my 2nd gen MR2 and was pleased with the quality. https://www.redlinegoods.com Granted, not a 240Z, but this give you some idea of the leather grain and stitching Redline uses.
  10. They are indeed pricey. I would say they are not needed if your 280Z is now mostly a garage queen that is kept in the garage away from the elements.
  11. Jay Leno approved 😉
  12. Good buy and just what the buyer's CPA recommended 💰
  13. FWIW...I'm riding on Suspension Technique springs, KYB struts and 205/60-14 with ZX rims.
  14. For reference, is plug #1 at the top or the bottom of the photos???
  15. These window frames can be replaced with basic tools and without removing the glass. The door panel will need to be removed, but that's easy. If you insist on outsourcing: https://zintage.net/ https://www.doctordatsun.com/ https://www.vintagemotorworksla.com
  16. A couple of ideas: 1. Get yourself a tube of ShinEtsu grease and apply a good amount around your hatch gasket. Keep the hatch open overnight to allow the grease to soak in and expand the rubber a bit. This technique works well with leaky t-tops and may help your situation. Then, take the car out for a run. 2. It is hard to tell in the photograph, but it looks like you have a Fujitsubo Legalis R exhaust system installed. As goofy as it sounds, I would try using about a foot length of PVC pipe (or similar) and attach it to each of your tailpipe tips and make the seal air tight with something like aluminum tape. Drive around the block with the widows down and then up to see if the extension makes any difference in the fumes. These suggestions may seem a bit unorthodox, but you have pretty much tried the all normal remedies.

I would go with a bead of black silicon given how old the dash foam is, and the potential adverse interaction with products containing isocyanates.
  18. I looked at few original 1973s on Bring a Trailer of Money and it looks the same as my 1972 speedo. Maybe @kats can hopefully chime in??? 🙏
  19. Is the date code on back 23 01.3? The first digit is hard to make out.
  20. Below is a photograph taken from the 1970 240Z sale brochure. A plastic cover can been seen over the voltage regulator. I assume the car (perhaps a late single-digit VIN) was released for the North American promotion circuit and pictures taken to create promotion/marketing slicks. I would guess all production cars had the cover installed. The car missing the cover was probably an engineering mule destined to be taken apart for the service manual and never left the factory complex. https://xr793.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/1970-Datsun-240Z.pdf
  21. This job might be a good candidate for POR 15
  22. I so love the fact you can easily swap carburetor needles on a 240Z and tune it with a twist of a mixture knob and turn of an idle screw. This sure beats taking out a laptop and remapping an ECU.
  23. That green Z would have at least had 10-15K more in bid momentum a year ago. The S30 is still somewhat within the reach of mere mortals, but the same demographic is being impacted more by the sour economy than the Ferrari and Lamborghini crowd. Moreover, the liquidation of the Prancing Horse Z collection on Bring a Trailer about a month ago probably scratched the immediate itch of any serious Z collectors with deep pocket for the near term.
