[2024] What Did You Do To/with Your Z Today?
Used my 240 as a backdrop for a new toy I bought. A real brand new 2 cycle Stihl weedeater. No valves! Weighs half as much and revs to the sky. Very happy with new old technology.4 points

280z rear bumper
2 pointsI agree. Many people (most everyone?) maligns the 280 bumpers. I think they make a 280 look like a 280. Glad it was a simple fix for the rear bumper mounting. I don't remember if the mounting flanges on the bumper shocks are symmetric or not, but if moving them around took car of the problem, glad it was something simple.2 points

Can't get momo hub to slide onto steering shaft
To update this thread: after further analysis it appears that a portion of the internal splines on the adapter were not fully formed (look at 6 o'clock area on both pictures for comparison) Good splines: Misshapen: This was the same on both hubs. I emailed Momo with no response. I ended up cutting the splines off one of my extra steering shafts and pressed it though the hub as a broach. It still didn't slide on by hand, but it went on fairly easily with the nut. If I ever need to remove it, I'm assuming I will have to use a steering wheel puller to get it off.2 points

4/75 Datsun 280Z; Leaf Green, CA market, 250K miles, Long Term Project 03/2023-
Larger items - Volvo C30 Turbo/manifold, cat/DP, Intercooler plumbing, driveshafts, spoilers, bumper panels/skirts, Instrument & dash panels, Headlamp assemblies, Boxes of relays, Bosch injection & ignition components, Boxes of parts for other projects: LS conversion parts for the pickup, VQ35DE subframe kit for the Z, new repro door panels & rear spoiler for the Z, and so on. That will need tiding up also. 🤪2 points

Engine Block Breather Tube Installation
Or, if I got energetic. I'd make a mandrel tool to expand the tube larger a couple thousandths and press it in. But I'm not sure if I'm that energetic.2 points

Continued with the clearing of the shelves on the south wall, which also meant I had to make some shallow shelves on the left of the back wall to store more chemicals Put stuff up on the right, so slowly making way also added a 7" deep x 12' strip of pegboard on the backside of the LVL beam, to store rolls of hose that were also taking up shelf space. Much more accessible this way - and harder for me to forget I already have2 points

[2024] What Did You Do To/with Your Z Today?
Chuck is amazing. This car now looks like new. Seeing Inline6’s silver Z pushed me over the top. Chuck has now done 3 of my Z’s and they are incredible! Add this to the Gold and Orange Z.2 points

Signals acting up
1 pointI'm not a big fan of the 2 pin electronic flashers. Maybe it's the cheap Chinesium aspect, but the type I was buying had some intermittent performance issues with LED bulbs that I have not seen with the 3 pin flashers. Anyway, if you're running incandescent bulbs and have intermittent performance of the turn signal, that indicates that you don't have enough current flowing through it. The intermittent performance with the electronic flasher tells me that the issues is probably between the flasher and the turn signal indicator. That would point to the switch or one of the connections to the switch.1 point

Parts Cleaning - Steam cleaners
1 pointSo I happen to borrow a semi-professional steam cleaner machine from a car buddy in town to do a little carpet spot cleaning, and he happens to tell me how great it cleans car parts! So I have this 5 speed with a nice overall coating of 50 year old oil and crap all over it that I can just not “wait” to scrub manually, so I try it. This thing is magical! I knew steam is a common industrial cleaner, but never really considered it for home use. Well, my carpets are clean, and so is my transmission. The pics show one nice little area I cleaned with the rest of the dreary dirty stuff around it. This took about a minute. The cleaning end has a little stiff brass brush (SS also available) that you scrub lightly with. This thing is dangerous, 315F steam at high pressure. But man! Does it clean aluminum. And I don’t know where the grime goes, it just disappears…… Small puddle of water on the floor. Anyway, something to add to the tool arsenal. Ain’t cheap, glad to have a buddy to borrow from. I have a little one I bought for like $50 to steam my gas tank (remember that), that thing would be slow. And yes, it blew whatever the heck my grand daughter messed up the carpet with right outta there in about 20 seconds with no detergent,1 point

240Z Top Fender Washers
1 pointHere is a previous discussion about clipped washers, also called D washers. In post 11 I shared dimensions of the ones I found on my 7/70. The discussion also lists some sources for these.1 point

Sudden Running Lean Issue
1 pointHonestly, I feel a bit silly posting this, but I did take a second look today in the light and there were actually 2 of those rubber seals in the plug instead of 1. There was no way that was ever going to make good contact like that - there isn't enough physical space inside the connector for that to happen. That said, I'd rather feel like a doofus than have the car run like it had been and at least now I know all of the other systems are working as intended.1 point

Great work on the side molding delete, the result looks awesome. I hope you didn't toss them, they can be re-purposed. Lol1 point

Z's on BAT and other places collection
Yours is very nice Mart ! I think the 280zx is more of a grand tourer, and it's interior and handling are much more modern compared to the 240z1 point

1 pointIt's nice to see that you can get good results without having to rely on toxic chemicals all the time, a small step in the right direction.1 point

[2024] What Did You Do To/with Your Z Today?
My 73 original paint Z had a stripe (body molding) on both sides. I just don’t like it ……breaks up the lines. Even though the car is all original paint, I said “What the heck…..lose it!” My painter is the best, so I gave it to Chuck to work his magic. Whatcha think? He buffed out the roof, tailgate and other original paint and the match was perfect. I love silver Z’s. IMG_7055.mov1 point

Enjoy your new weedeater while you can, Cliff. Gas powered lawn care equipment can no longer be sold in California. Gas powered leaf blowers have been banned for a couple years. I'm guessing other states will follow.0 points
