  1. Despite the rough last year and a half or almost two now we have all been through, we can always give thanks to the LORD for HE is good even when we are not or when circumstances are not the best. Happy Thanksgiving from ONEWAY-John-Lugoff, SC.
  2. My wife took my 280Z for a test drive once and I doubt she will ever do that again. We almost missed the driveway. When she finally parked is and rattled of your top ten plus "stupid car has no power steering". Her last remark was; I can't beleive you wasted all your time on that...
  3. The links are live for booking a hotel room for ZCON 2022. I got my reservations. http://zcon.org/conventions/2022/hotels/ By the way Buc-ee's fans, there is a Buc-ee's located 20 miles from the convention hotel.
  4. I had an issue with a stuck rear brake drum, with the drum stuck to the hub, and not to the shoes. I tried hammering, PB Blaster, heat gun - all to no avail. I tried to borrow a puller that Autozone seemed to have, but couldn't locate one. I ended up buying what I think is the same tool from Amazon (Astro 78830). This did the trick. I wrapped a ratchet strap around the tool jaws to make sure they would not slide off. I couldn't wrap it around the drum, as is recommended, because the fins caused the strap to slide off. It took a fair amount of impact-wrenching before the drum popped off with a loud snap. Hope this helps someone in the future.
  5. That would have been good advice for the previous owner. But, it so happens I bought this Z in 1976. The only previous problems in this area were with the shoes grabbing the drum, requiring the adjustors to be backed off. But I will apply the anti-seize for the next guy.

It is the orange rubber piece in your last photo. This goes at the base of your valve in the head to block oil from seeping into your combustion chamber. Example: This isnt a 280z exactly but it will give you the idea of the order of operations 🙂 :
  8. Yeah T3 has 20% off this week, debating if i should push that `add to cart button` or try to DIY them. "DIY SUSPENSION, aka i hope that weld penetrated all the way"
  9. Happy thanksgiving to all my friends on the best car forum around!
  10. Definitely not the best option, welding would always be my number one…if I had a welder 😞 Since I can’t, that’s why I’m doubling up on the 3M panel bond (chemical bond) with rivets (mechanical bond) and top it off with seam sealer. I did some research on panel bond and it’s a fairly popular form of construction in newer OEM cars, specifically in the German market. I’m not worried about it failing if I ensure proper preparation. It’s not that I don’t trust using only panel bond but I want the rivets since I don’t trust myself 100% and if I don’t get a perfect adhesion, the rivets will hopefully give enough support. I’d like to get the car body work done right when I paint it, so if it should only last a couple years and I’ll be satisfied. Bottom will of course be seam sealed as well and undercoated. @grannyknot I hope to get in a couple nice cruises before summer hits here in Phoenix. I’ll need to get the floor done, wiring harness completed, and then interior put back together. I have a few months!
  11. If you have no other options then a rivet is better than nothing but if you want a permanent fix then it really should be welded, mind you, the new panel bonds are tremendously strong and as long as the both sides to be bonded are properly prepared then you could probably get away with what you're planning to do. If the metal of the original floor pan has any rust then you'll need to sand that down to clean fresh metal and be sure that epoxy seam never sees any water, seal it a couple of times. I haven't used the 3M bond before but comparable products that I have used recommend 80 grit sanding of both surfaces. Your car is coming along well, do you think you will have it on the road next spring?
  12. Happy Thanksgiving back to you! Hope everyone reading this has a great day and enjoys time with family and friends. @dutchzcarguy I think the holiday is more about being thankful and yes, today is the US holiday. Although it's based on American history, other countries have similar days for giving thanks.
  13. I wanted black too but wound up with graphite Rewinds. They look close to black. Discount Tire has some really good deals but you have to get all the discounts and rebates timed right. Looks like they are doing the black Friday thing... These are the ones I have. https://www.discounttire.com/buy-wheels/konig-rewind
  14. I'm thinking more like Memphis because of the heat. The track and People's Choice show were both way across town for that ZCON. For 2022 Barber is only 20 miles from the hotel, but Holy Cow, Talledega Gran Prix is an hour away. You can be sure that the wife will be following in her own air conditioned vehicle for the trip to ZCON.
  15. My 240z has the original Dutch version gearbox and diff and i tested it in Germany on the "autobahn" and i got 215 km/h on mine at 49 years old!! thats 133 Miles per hour! (This was with to small diameter tires on so it was more like 205 km/h .. this is 127 mls/h and... thats what was the number on topspeed in the euro zone adverts from the 240z!) Top speed was sayd 205 km/hour in the tech. info. (=127 Mls/h)
  16. I work for a small garage that’s in an industrial complex. Old neighbors specialized in 1938-1948 V-12 Lincoln Continental and Zephyr cars but would never see anything there. New neighbors are much more active and have some customers with some seriously sweet cars. Makes our lot look like salvage yard. This morning they’ve run several up the road and boy do they sound good. Every time I hear one I run out the door like a little kid just to get a peek. 1971 Lamborghini Miura 1957 Ferrari Testa Rossa Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Serious money!!! Imagine the shop insurance? "Yes, we need a $100,000,000 of insurance coverge." "You need what???" 😂

You check valve lash with a feeler gauge, but it requires you to turn the engine. I wouldn't worry about that until you address the issue with the valve that lost its keeper. To verify oil flow, what I like to do is fill a oil can with 10w30 or your favorite flavor. Take the coil wire off the distributor. Hook up a remote to the starter. Make sure the car is out of gear. Take off the valve cover. Put a generous amount of oil on each cam lobe so there is some initial lubrication for each rocker. Trigger the remote starter and look for oil to come out of the spray bar.

Be very careful messing with that. The valve lock is gone. So if you take the pressure off the stem, the valve's gonna drop into the motor. Would be interesting to put air to the cylinder to hold the valve up. If it stays up and holds air pretty good. i would reassemble it and run a compression test. These engines are very tough. My first concern would be a bent valve stem
  20. Having been close to 130mph in my first 240z, many years ago. I would go with the higher numbers

Unfortunately, right before I moved from Michigan to Phoenix this spring, I gave away a perfectly good L26 along with a few other engines. It sounds like you (with help from other AZ people) need to first figure out if there is a mechanical failure with the engine. Hopefully not, but these engines are really cheap to rebuild. My Porsche on the other hand is at least 10 times more expensive to rebuild and much more likely to blow up.
  22. Great video, we need more cow bell next time!! Congrats on getting it road worthy. It’s more work than one thinks and why some many project cars never get finished. Even after I finish my Z and make the interior look like it wasn’t parked on Venus for a decade my wife will probably never want to ride in it. 1. Too Loud 2. Too Bumpy 3. No XM radio 4.
