Z's on BAT and other places collection
Even if one doesn't like it, you have to admit the guy did an excellent job. The car looks awesome. The automatic transmission sucks though. These are sports cars, and sports cars were meant to have manual transmissions.2 points

Z's on BAT and other places collection
Here’s a guy asking a lot of $$ for modified 280z. It’s Canadian dollars but still too much money. I don’t like the seats and I’m not a fan of Z’s with LS swaps, somehow the character disappears when you do that. It’s a good looking car otherwise. Just because to put 240z badges, lights and bumpers doesn’t mean you can charge 240z prices. http://www.280zforsale.com/1978-nut-bolt-240z-resto-in-breslau-on/?utm_source=240ZForSale.com&utm_campaign=a43bddeb0e-Ad+Updates+for+December+29th+2020&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_77be7cc975-a43bddeb0e-2024529692 points

Brand new 'Quick Racks'
2 pointsAs I've used that combination (Japanese market stock 15.8:1 rack ratio, and the 'short' 105mm knuckles) on four of my cars, I can tell you that it is - in my opinion - very sporting indeed, and not *too* heavy, even with the smaller diameter Izumi 'Datsun Compe' steering wheel.2 points

1 pointI wonder about my commitment anymore . My latest customer and project is kicking my old feeling arse. I might be hanging up my tools after this . I have aged 10 years in 2020 , and it’s a struggle more than a joy , though I still get some joy for completion of projects . I just want to drive and enjoy1 point

Floor Jack Question
1 pointYet another Harbor Freight jack owner here. I used to have the aluminum "racing" jack until it and a bag of spare change (and nothing else) were stolen a few years ago when my house was broken into. Replaced with the 3-ton Pittsburgh jack. It's studier, but also weighs a heck of a lot more. Both served me well. With sales and coupons, tough to beat for the price.1 point

Restoration of BringaTrailer 240z - HLS30-35883
I am getting closer to sending all of my hardware to be re-plated. I am going to try to do it all in one shipment, so I needed to disassemble some parts which up to this point, have not been. The rear struts and arms were the focus today. The pictures I took reveal some interesting details. For example, the condition of this rubber washer suggests that the spindle pins have not been out since assembly at the factory. Yet the pins actually look good enough to make me think they were replaced: The rear brake shoes look like replacements. I believe they were installed by the prior owner of the car as part of the work he did to "restore" the car. I note the word "MINTEX" printed on the edge of the brake material. I think these are aftermarket, but will do some searching on the internet to try to determine. Also of interest is the pink (I think) paint mark on the factory rear springs. As a relatively rust free car, it is reasonable to assume these are original factory markings. Additionally, the right strut shows evidence of a rectangular label that was adhered to the outside surface of the tube. This could be an indication that the black paint visible is actually the factory applied black enamel. Rear brake cylinders are Tokico units and appear to have been new replacements installed by a prior owner. The previous owner acquired the car in February of 1989 according the Bring a Trailer listing. However, the stamp on the shoes (June of 1982) seems to indicate the brake work was done prior to his ownership. Black overspray on the cylinder and the handbrake lever indicate an attempt to respray some black on the right rear strut backing plate. However, the bolts that secure the plate to the strut do not have black on them. This seems to suggest the black paint on the backing plated is at least in part, original. Removing the axles, it was plain to see that the rear bearings were original. The brake hoses also have the appearance of being replaced at the time the cylinders were installed as evidenced by the part number (46202-H7025) - the correct replacement part number for the prior part number (46202-N4500). New replacement KYB strut inserts had also been inserted by a previous owner. Also, the black paint on the upper spring perch was protected by the upper strut mount. Interesting to see the lack of gloss here. I will clean the parts and examine them more closely. Also, the axle flanges have very little wear where the seal rides. Interesting for a car that had ~ 130k miles - 5 times the distance around the world. Also, it is interesting to notes remnants of original black paint on these: Anyway, though interesting, I now have more of the hardware in hand to send to be re-plated.1 point

Brand new 'Quick Racks'
1 pointThe length of "steering knuckles" also factor in the amount of steering wheel turn to the amount of wheel rotation. @JDMjunkies.ch documented this: I don't know the geometrical details between the various Nissan parts but I would think that new parts would remove slop. This would seem to be the biggest, and most welcome benefit.1 point

1973 Rebuild
1 pointYeah, I have a feeling that’s gonna happen. However, I think the 84-86 300zx also used this caliper, so I am going to call some yards before I go down that route. Also, MSA has a kit with these. I am going to try to get them to sell me just the brackets. Long shot, but worth it.1 point

Most people don’t understand money, inflation and how debt ties it to the whole system. Inflation is an expansion of the money supply. When you have more of a currency chasing the same amount of goods and services prices go up. Inflation is expanding the money the consequence is a rise in prices. When you take a loan you essentially “create” money and when you pay off a loan money is destroyed. This is because we have a debt based economy. Our dollar isn’t backed by gold anymore, that ended in 1971 under Nixon when Europe was repatriating its gold it gave to US during WW2. Our dollar is back by 3 things. The military, oil and debt. We export most of our inflation by purchasing foreign goods from a dollar we print at will. The US and Saudi Arabia made a deal to tie the dollar to oil and thus created the petrodollar. Oil is benchmarked against the dollar. We provide military hardware and defense to Saudi as part of the deal. When Ghadaffi tried to create a gold back currency in 2010 with other African oil producers ....we destroyed him. That was a direct threat to the dollar. When you borrow money and have to repay with interest that money (interest) has to come from somewhere. It doesn’t magically appear in a system with a finite currency. Think of it this way. If you have 3 people on an island and $1,000 total dollars for loan at one bank and the bank changes 10% interested and each person borrows $333.33 and the end of the term each person owes the bank $33 in interest....so where does that come from if there is only $1000 on the island? It’s created by inflating the money. The fed is the real bad guy in all this. They get rich at the expense of the country and the people . The fed is a private institution run by the worlds biggest banks. JP Morgan etc.. “He who controls the money supply of a Nation controls the Nation” ; James Garfield . Andrew Jackson had an assignation attempt again him for opposing a federal reserve and many speculate the JFK was assassinated because he wanted to abolish the Fed. Our central bank (the Fed) was signed into law while most of congress was away from DC on the Christmas break (23 Dec 1913). This was intentional. This changed America forever. Two month later the US federal government began taxing citizens income . These are tied together. The fed gets rich by stealing the value of your labor by constantly inflating the money you work for. This drives up prices and and forces people into lower living standards. The bottom line is we are approached the end game. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

Ebay shipping time machine
1 pointWe could start with getting rid or severely modifying the two National Security Acts (Truman, Reagan) that allow Washington to hide all the skulduggery and worse that routinely goes on behind the scenes and eliminate that ridiculous law that states that corporations are the same as a human being. Then we could "follow the money" and get rid of K Street and the lobbyists. No need to try to sort out who needs to go. If we get the corporate money out of Congress, the Narcissists will follow it right out the door.1 point
