COVID-19
2 pointsLooks like the three groups are in Portland too. Working secretly apparently. Can you imagine being a young man or woman who joined one of these services when they were honorably run? Now they have to attack fellow citizens and military veterans. It's like Kent State. https://komonews.com/news/local/navy-veteran-beaten-at-protest-says-he-was-enraged-to-see-federal-officers-in-portland https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kent_State_shootings2 points

COVID-19
2 pointsI fear we're looking at the start of six months of a scorched earth policy driven by, If you won't let me play anymore, I'll fix it so no one can and it's all your fault.2 points

COVID-19
2 pointsHe's sending federal troops to Democrat run cities! Not to help with covid-19 but to bully the elected officials. Oh crap, the election November 3rd is useless. He says he doesn't lose very often and doesn't take it well. He's lost every important battle he's been in as a civilian so he should take his losses in stride like bankruptcy.2 points

COVID-19
2 pointsWhen I hear "deep state conspiracy" I think of those cats in Portland and now my opinion on armed individuals starting a militia has changed. That sort of over reach from the federal government scares me. "Granny get your gun"! The Chris Wallace interview was very telling.2 points

COVID-19
2 pointsReminds me of how I've always thought it was odd that "surviving" an accident is all that's reported for shootings, car accidents, etc. "She was shot in the face seven times. She'll survive." "He was burned over 60% of his body. But he'll survive." If you simplify things down to "surviving" then we don't really have anything to worry about. Didn't die? You'll be fine.2 points

COVID-19
1 point1968, I remember it as the year my naivete balloon popped. I was 19. Nam, multiple childhood friends coming home in caskets, the draft, RFK, MLK, Kent State, and the Chicago Democratic National Convention all changed my view about world leaders and what drives them.1 point

COVID-19
1 pointAt least clarity and a plan is coming soon... Trump said he would resume his coronavirus briefings, likely starting tomorrow. Trump held daily briefings at the start of the coronavirus crisis, but the briefings attracted widespread criticism because of the president’s frequent false and misleading claims about the pandemic.1 point

1 pointThanks for the analogy!! My friend has 4 more 280z at his place, hoping one of them has a 200 rear end.1 point

best way to sell
1 point1. Join ZONC if you're not already a member. 2. Circulate around the club that you want to sell. Many of us encounter people who are interested in buying a Z. I'm sure the ZONC members experience that, too. 3. Consider Bring a Trailer...I'm not a big fan of that site, but there are some here who like it.1 point

COVID-19
1 pointYou make an interesting point. This kind of governmental action is much too close to the kind of governmental "secret police" actions which conspiracy theorists use as their justification for being in "militias" and stockpiling firearms. But if those firearms came to the streets, it would be a bloody and brief conflict that the feds would not lose. This situation has the potential for terrible things to happen.1 point

COVID-19
1 pointI confess that the temptation to compare this group with Lemmings marching over a cliff is strong. And I am EXTREMELY concerned about what's going on in Portland, and by reports, Washington DC. This is too much like third world dictatorships where the black maria pulls up, the secret police jump out and grab people off the street, throw them in the van and...they disappear. The only difference so far is that people are being released after being held and questioned with no legal process at all. This is not acceptable.1 point

Finally Got My Garage Mahal!!!
1 pointYears ago, when they epoxied our 100,000 ft^2 shop floor at work (Roush Racing), they put down 3 or 4 small sample areas so we could determine how much grit we needed. The ones with no grit added were down right dangerous when motor oil or gear oil was present. Needless to say, they went with enough grit to make it safe.1 point

high idle speed issue
1 pointI run only internally oiled on my P79 race car head. I ran both for a while on one of my motors, but eventually blocked off the tower ports and went with only internally oiled.1 point

Clutch fork throw
1 pointStart a new thread with a descriptive title. Many forum members are only interested in certain things, and only browse the titles or certain sub-fourms. "Clutch fork throw" probably isn't a big club, except for some of us. It drew me right in.1 point

Front SU Carb pulling in a TON more air than the rear - Help...
Following up. That bookmark "suffered a critical failure" so no good anymore. It was some English car parts site for Austin Healeys and MGs. Did a quick search, ztherapy comes up 1st. They're out there. Good luck. https://www.google.com/search?rls=ig&ei=A0kUX4TWONXA1QGd_ZToBQ&q=hitachi+su+carburetor+throttle+shafts+&oq=hitachi+su+carburetor+throttle+shafts+&gs_lcp=CgZwc3ktYWIQAzIICCEQFhAdEB4yCAghEBYQHRAeOgQIABBHOgIIADoFCAAQzQI6BAghEAo6BQghEKABOgUIIRCrAlCmMViMhwFgxp4BaABwAXgAgAF8iAHzDZIBBDIwLjGYAQCgAQGqAQdnd3Mtd2l6&sclient=psy-ab&ved=0ahUKEwjE44C5tNnqAhVVYDUKHZ0-BV0Q4dUDCAw&uact=51 point

COVID-19
1 pointI'm just in "reduce the probability" mode now. Doesn't really matter how or why it's happening, just how do I avoid getting it. Flying is out, the airlines don't care. Certain cities are out, they are festering spreader zones. Even locally, I avoid certain areas because there is no room to get around people if you happen to hit the same spot at the same time. I shop at the off the main drag supernarkets, they see less volume so better odds. Just like avoiding smoky bars, or avoiding the roads on the weekends after midnight. That's really the point of all of the recommendations, improving the odds. The science guys tend to assume that the average person doesn't understand probability, so they "dumb down" their recommendations. Ivory towers and all of that. I think that they forget about Las Vegas and Reno. They just need to frame the message in the right terms.1 point

[2020] What Did You Do To/with Your Z Today?
I am back working on the race car after Covid kept me away from the garage it is in and I'm in the middle of the brake upgrade. I figured that I would weigh each brake component and make a spreadsheet to track the deltas. My brake swap is as follows, I'm upgrading from the OE setup to the common Toyota 4X4 Vented fronts using T3 spacers and in the rear, I went with Mustang GT calipers and vented rotors using the Silvermine adapter brackets. The rears added more weight than the fronts and I'm not quite done weighing parts as I don't yet have the front linings or the Wilwood 1" master cylinder or prop valve. Also, T3 sent me the thicker 240Z spacers even though I ordered and the invoice shows 280Z spacers. I will re-weigh the spacers and bolts when I get them. Bottom line is that the total brake upgrade is going to be around 43 lbs. heavier than the OE setup once I include the front linings. I do plan to remove the parking brake setup so that will offset a little bit of the weight gain. I was a little surprised that I added that much weight, but the rear vented rotors and calipers are heavy. The rears are 25 of the 43 lb. add. For racing, I think it will be a welcome improvement. For street use, I would have saved the 43 lbs. Attached is the file with the weights. Note that for now, I had not pulled the old pads from the OE front calipers when I weighed them, so the caliper delta appears lower than it will be once I remove the pads and move the weight to the proper row. I will edit this post once I get the pads and the MC/prop valve weights listed. I hope this helps people when they look into upgrading. Brake Weight Sheet.xlsx1 point

Clutch fork throw
1 point150mm is way to much. It's an easy misstake and happens a lot. The aftermarket industry make one type of pressure plate, but in the S30 series Zeds they had 4 different heights over the years. Each type had its own matching collar. The bearing and fork have the same dimensions.1 point

Unicorn Alert: Rubber Steering Coupler
What has happened to our DIY culture on this item? Let's see, what do we need? 1. Use a hated polyurethane bushing as a pattern and source of the four steel hole lining bushings. You can also laboriously extract these bushing from your old rubber one too. 2. Acquire a chunk of rubber. Get a few different durometers. If your get 1/4 thickness of various durometers to build a sandwich and experiment with the steering feel until you get what you like. McMaster carr has a large variety of rubber types, some even with reinforcing layers. Rubber suppliers are surprisingly common. This stuff is not high tech. 3. Size and drill the holes using the old poly bushing as a guide. 4. Press the steel bushings into the holes. 5. Assemble on the car and go for a drive.1 point

COVID-19
0 pointsThese politically motivated, inadequately trained (developing story) federal troops are too similar to Hitler's Brown Shirts in the late 1930s. Mercenaries (bullies) hired by the Head Narcissist to carry out the HIS wishes. If the bully tactics are going to start somewhere, there's a part of me that's glad it's in Portland. We can handle it. On the other hand, we know it's going to get worse before it gets better but we don't know how bad it's going to get. The next six months are going to be beastly. ✌️0 points
