Z Car store vs motorsport rear disc kit
Well, my car is the perennial garage queen and has still not rolled under power since I bought her. I eventually gave up on AZC ever completing a rear park brake kit. All I ever got from Dave were promises of “two more weeks”... I worked with Edan to develop a rear park brake kit using his parts and the AZC rears. It took a bit of work, but now I have the best of both worlds!1 point

That is good info, Permatex makes a black polyurethane adhesive/sealant #59503 that they don't even list on their site. It is very versatile and also makes a great gasket on anything except high heat applications.1 point

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
1 pointKats it's 1 of the reasons I'm contemplating keeping my 71 240z an automatic. It's so rare now, many have been converted to manual and the good thing is people literally give away the auto parts and gearboxes. I've got a spare 240z auto box sitting in my backyard because someone gave it to me for free. I actually don't mind the auto, it is a little slow. Initial pick up is ok, but top end suffers a bit. I haven't tuned it mine you, so might just need some additional ignition / carb tuning to get it really moving along. But an auto was considered a big luxury at the time and commanded a price premium. This car was also fitted with dealer option aircon, and I think having both of those things is nice especially with the hotter summers we're getting these days. So I would like to retain both. I certainly don't see many HS30's with auto gearboxes anymore.1 point

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
1 pointThanks bartsscooterservice , that red is an early model ( 1967 - 1969 ) , bigger driving lamp , smaller rear side markers etc . For the side note , like S30 , Toyota 2000GT has two types of engine , DOHC ( 2000cc ) and SOHC (2300 cc ) . SOHC version was made only 9 cars , all of them were for export , two of them are automatic transmission. Recently the first SOHC MF12-000001 (automatic transmission) was sold for 8800 0000 yen ( 1000000 USD) . How about our S30 ? I have seen an interview for engineers of Nissan when the car was new , they said 30 % of export 240Zs are automatic transmission cars . But nowadays it is hard to see automatic transmission cars , maybe the ratio dropped below 10% now ? Kats1 point

What Electric Fuel Pump upgrade???
Ill have to remove the wheel again and get under the car to take more pictures. My dad advised me never to get under a car alone. If the car jack and support fails im dead and nobody will be there to help me out.1 point

Timing Chain Tool
1 pointI like the tether on that tool better than my orange and blue ones. I replaced a head gasket on my 620 last week and got the cord of the tool stock under the cylinder head. I didn’t realize it until I tried to remove the tool and reinstall cam sprocket.1 point

FS5W71B Rebuild Thread - Tips tricks and discoveries!
Excellent advise Dave. When I read the descriptions of all the different gasket makers, adhesives, sealants etc, I find it all highly confusing. Just go read about these products on Permatex website. I guarantee you will be confused on what to use in what situation. Sealants can be gasket makers and sealants. Gasket makers don't seem to be great sealants. My favorite example is when I look at the gasket making products, and come across the category for Anaerobic gasket makers and sealants!!!! Even they can't keep the two apart. ANd then there is whole section on "Gasket Sealants". https://www.permatex.com/product-category/gasketing/gasket-sealants/ Arghhhhhh!!!! No wait. This stuff Permatex® High Tack™ Spray-A-Gasket™ Sealant, is actually an adhesive! It's for sticking gaskets on metal surfaces. Dear lord..... All I want is no leaks and to use fewer paper gaskets. Reading this tonight, it does clear up some of the areas that I have never seen clarified properly about proper use of sealants and gasket makers. Give it a read. Especially RTV gasket makers vs Anaerobic flange sealants. At least it makes it clear how to use each one properly. https://www.permatex.com/ten-common-gasketing-mistakes/ Oh, and the "right stuff" seems like magic.1 point

FS5W71B Rebuild Thread - Tips tricks and discoveries!
I'm watching Youtube again to watch how the three major rebuild videos are doing their reassembly again. Thought I'd list them here for reference in one place. All are good their own way, each is different. 1. Dave WM. Video's part 1 to 13. All are called " FS5W71B datsun 280zx transmission rebuild pt X" where X is 1 to 13 (1-13). Some use the word PART instead of pt. I am not putting the URL's for all 13 in here. Actually there is a 3.1, so there may be 14 parts officially. 2. Greg Oslund. Video's call "Datsun 280Z 5 Speed Transmission Rebuild". Single 1:43:00 video doing the whole thing end to end. The description gives a list of the topics covered in what time periods in the video to help you skip ahead to the parts you care about. 0:00 - 28:00 Disassembly 28:00 - 33:00 Intermediate Plate Assembly 33:00 - 45:00 2nd/3rd Gear Assembly 45:00 - 49:40 Press Mainshaft into Int. Two bearing kits came in today. One from Nissan, one from drivetrain.com. One more to come from transmissionpartsdistributors.com/. They are taking their sweet time shipping. Someone made the label with USPS software, but so far nothing has gotten TO USPS to get on its way to me. Slackers. I will take the kits apart and compare for you at some point.1 point

L24 Battles Six S20's. Guess who wins?
"Taxi cars"? The L20 six was launched in the H130 Cedric 'Special Six' model. It was a flagship model. You would have had a hard time finding one being used as a taxi. What's the point you are trying to make here? https://www.nissan-global.com/EN/HERITAGE/cedric_special_6_1965.html "Thanks Mr K...!" I think the statement in bold is making some presumptions about the lines of communication, and who was responsible for what. The Pete Brock-penned Classic Motorsports BRE article states that BRE (maybe Sharp too?) 'reported their findings to the factory', but I would find it surprising if the lines of communication at the time allowed BRE and/or Sharp direct communication with "the factory" at all, let alone Nissan's engine design divisions. I think it would be much more likely that they were either firing missives off to Nissan departments unknown, in English, or simply reporting to NMC USA. So what was the purpose of quoting the clearly inaccurate Classic Motorsports article?1 point

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
1 pointNot a Z , but I would like to show this , another local Toyota 2000GT . Mr. Shimoura and me visited Mr. Minamiura to see his car , this car he bought new in 1970 at his age 22 ! He is the original owner indeed. The plate shows that this car is truly registered only once ever since , people know this car is the first registered 2000GT in Nara region. He hopes someone takes care of this car with the plate , I thought I can keep the plate but I have never imagined owning one nor falling love with one . But looking at this beauty, I gradually inclined to this one . Some pieces are resemble our S30 cars , some are completely different, it is always fun to look at it . Kats1 point

Deja Vu: 1971 Restoration
1 pointPicked up the clock from the clock repair guy. He really does a great job. I gave him the broken clock over two weeks ago. He installed a quartz mechanism and then monitored the time for almost two weeks to make sure it was EXACT. He even puts marker on the back for the clock speed adjustment which I thought was interesting. He did the clock on my 71 Z and the clock keeps excellent time. Pretty nice for a 240Z. Also installed the clock in the dash. Pics below. Installed the door latches and also installed the outside rubber on the front bumper. The over rider rubber should be in tomorrow. Pics below1 point
