Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
5 pointsThis body shell is Fairlady 240ZG which belongs to Mr. Tasaka . He is going to paint it soon , now he is doing a final check of how the genuine over fenders fit well to the body . As quite some people are saying a story in Japan , original ZG over fenders are not symmetry, especially in rear fenders . Left rear over Fender is slightly positioned upward than the Right rear . Mr . Tasaka and I confirmed our ZGs are the same , both cars have same unsymmetrical rear over fenders. I used to have two sets of NOS ZG over fenders, but I sold them last month. I realized how beautiful and well- crafted the old over fenders which originally came with the car are . The NOS ones have fresh paint but , the edges are dull and the thickness is not the same to the originals .The NOS ones are more flexible . Maybe the NOS ones were made in 90s or later , that is why I decided to stick with my original over fenders . You can tell what I am talking about in Mr. Tasaka ‘s ZG over fenders. We agreed “Z is so beautiful even it doesn’t have tires nor body panels “ . Kats5 points

Complete Misfire on Three Cylinders
4 pointsOne of the many great things about this Forum. Most people on here regularly, are on because they love these cars and the camaraderie with the members, not to make a buck or boast and prove their expertise. The pay it forward mentality for the greater good of the members and forum is the prevailing culture. Jonathonrussell just proved that once again![emoji481] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk4 points

Complete Misfire on Three Cylinders
4 pointsI got a couple hours in the shop today. Here's what I started with. You can't really tell from this pic but that hole goes in on somewhat of an angle. It's not square to the top surface. It cuts in towards the center of the head: First I bored out the hole (hopefully close to the correct location) to about as large as I was comfortable with. Here you can clearly see the off-center hole that punctured down into the water jacket below: Then once that was done, I threaded that hole: And made a threaded insert on the lathe: Here's a test fit: I didn't glue the insert in yet. I'll do that tomorrow with a clear head. And then after I glue it in, I'll cut off the excess and machine flat.4 points

Hitachi TM-1081-ZB Radio Repair Thread
Hi All, My early Hitachi radio functions nearly 100% except for the audio output stage. I get a speaker thump when turning on but no static or sound. The volume and tone controls make no changes to the silence. I just replaced all caps and no change. I found the cap C38, which decouples the power amp transistors from the speakers, to be toast and the PO seems to have hooked up two speakers to the output. I am now starting to investigate deeper. The voltages on the power transistors are normal however I am getting ~230ohms across the input winding of the audio transformer T7 feeding the power stage from the Hitachi FA-6007T op amp. I'll check against my working radio. Here are some pictures of cap replacement to help others. I also included the service manual (thanks to @hr369 and @JDMjunkies.ch) ? Sadly there are no AM radio stations in this area so trouble shooting RF stages will be is tough. Hopefully it is just a problem in the audio stage. Z31 N/A RB project
2 pointsMy painter should be back onto my car very soon once he finishes up the Bronco that started before mine. The engine is ready for piston to valve clearance check with aggressive cam settings and then they will be degreed in with the other 5 piston install following so hopefully the engine will be done soon too. While I wait, I finally recieved my 1984 Nissan Skyline that I found/bought searching Japanese sites. It arrived to my door just under 5 months from my original purchase and holy cow, did it exceed my expectations! I lowered it but need to come back up about 1/2-3/4". Have some small plans for the car but it's just about perfect in every way and is the best looking Skyline I have ever seen hands down!2 points

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
2 pointsHi , good news here in Japan . Yokohama Tire has just released a new model , a revival of classic “ GT Special “ series. I am happy that there is a 175/80 14 which is suitable for our S30 cars . I need to see the price , how much it is going to be . Kats2 points

My Datsun 240Z
2 pointsAllright.. the axles are back under the car, also replaced the front lower ball joints ( pain .. ) , dynamo v belt and transmission oil. The transmission and differential may need a rebuild in the future ( within 5 years ), but for now I will leave it at this, it still works fine, it's not bad. I torqued everything down on the front when the car was on it's wheels ( pushed the suspension a few times before torquing it down, thought it was better this way. I had to kill a socket in the turning bench to fit on the castle nut tight space, so I could torque it down to 70 NM. I will need to get it re-aligned coming week, but then I can drive it again for few more summer months.. ( hope weather will be dry... ) The Mustang I am waiting for the AOD Automatic transmission to come back in a few weeks, and will work from there..2 points

240Z LED Headlight Wiring
1 pointOnce the kids FINALLY went to sleep, I went out for some carb playing / tuning at night. So I thought I’d take some photos to show how well the LED bulbs work behind standard H4 lenses. It was bugging me that I hadn’t shared that ;) The iPhone camera does it no justice but here’s the beam pattern with a rock solid horizontal cut off on the driver’s side (RHD car) and the break in the middle kicking the light up onto the pavement side of the car. And here is dipped beam on a piece of (sorta) straight road: And high beam: You can just about see the way the high beam lights the stuff in the distance - like I said the iPhone 6s camera isn’t great at night - time for the upgrade I’ve been putting off! ;) Oh and got stopped by the local police again. Got the usual chat: “I used to lust after that car as a little boy sir!! Straight six, right? Sounds really nice!”1 point

Thanks buddy, you’re too kind. Oh, just a thought - I didn’t have the heart to bin the original parts. If I can find them, i can either send you the main board or mail you the part you need if you wish? Let me know.1 point

Hitachi TM-1081-ZB Radio Repair Thread
You’re most welcome and I would gladly have popped over to help if you were more local ;) Great that you can still get the original opamp!! At least you can preserve it. I didn’t wish to hijack your thread so I didn’t post the link before but since you asked ... https://zclub.net/community/index.php?threads/stock-radio-modern-internals.20247/ It was all done in a bit of a hurry in small increments of time so I didn’t do as good a job as I would have liked, but it works. This little bad boy sits totally invisibly under my passenger seat and kicks out some serious bass for it’s size. On about 1/4 to 1/3 of its volume setting it perfectly “fills in” what the stereo lacks without being wide-boy, as we say in the UK, read “red-neck”. https://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product_m-in-phase-car-audio-usw10_p-25817.htm1 point

1972 240Z Vintage Z Program Car up for Auction on BaT
Yes, the console badge is missing. Evidently, the air-conditioning has been added since the original build. Someone commented about the ride height and my photographs of this car show a similar ride height so I'm tempted to think that it has oil shocks instead of gas shocks. Gosh, the tires don't do the car any favors. I'm also wondering what happened to the original sale paperwork and the certificate.1 point

Hitachi TM-1081-ZB Radio Repair Thread
Thanks for the great advice and support! I still have a scope.(I used to have access to signal generators 30 years ago too). For this, I have just been lazy and have not pulled the scope out yet. I'm lucky and have another radio that works so I should be able to compare voltages and signals through the system. If I can find an FM to AM converter then I will have a 24/7 input source as there are no AM stations here anymore. ? I think I found a supplier for the very old Hitachi Op Amp but I will scope out rather than throw a grenade and replace. The voltages on the Darlington array match the schematic so I am hoping it is ok. Please post a link to your radio upgrade to this thread to help others!1 point

6 point harness with stock seats?
Absolutely not. The seats need pass-throughs that capture the sub and shoulder belts. Otherwise, your harness will not function as intended and you're going to have a bad time. I'm assuming (hoping) this is a race car that doesn't see the street. A roll cage and race harnesses are not fun nor safe on the street (unless you're wearing a helmet and HANS device at all times).1 point

Tension rod mounts worn out - please help!
So I think you are talking to me, please excuse the lousy cutting surface, I wasn't going for looks just trying to get it made as fast as possible. Outside of male and female 77mm OD, male half 51mm by 8mm tall, female half 54mm ID, 9mm deep. The round blank is 20 ga and should have an OD of 95mm. Make sure you grease both sides, I just put the center threaded rod to keep the blank centered. You use a press or a 4lb mallet to hammer it into shape. The cup is just there to keep the bottom of the rubber bushing from squishing out. The hole in the T/C mount has to be about 3mm wider than the metal sleeve that ZH is talking about here, the T/C rod has to toggle in the mount when the suspension goes to extremes up or down. Hope this helps,1 point
