It's the way the number 6 looks. 240Z and 280Z just look cooler than 260Z. Imagine if GM had produced a Z26 Camaro. Just not the same as Z28.

Steve, Time is getting close. Unfortunately I am having the end of month money woes again. I was doing ok, until I adopted a 6 pound waif. The PO assured me that Lissa at 10 months old, had all of her puppy shots. I went by her vet to pick up the records. Short story, they only gave her one "7 in 1" shot on 1/3/17, instead of the needed series, leaving her open to illnesses. That night Lissa seemed to have a fever so I ran her to my vet in the A.M. After tests and meds issued, Lissa thankfully was not sick, to the tune of $142. There went my savings, I now have $40 in the bank. Not sure if that will get gas enough to allow me to drive to you and back home. I'll try to borrow some $. BUT, this very sweet little girl Lissa is now protected from illnesses. She is a real doll, great with all things needed, like potty training. She is just what I needed to give me sunshine once again in my life, I'm smiling a lot now. Here is a photo of her. I'll get back to you about the trip over to your house. Let me know what day will work out for you. Hopefully there will be no rain, I do not drive Redbird out in the rain. Thank you, Jai

Well..... i got my son to tighten the bolt on the alternator while i pried on it to hold it in position. That seems to have done it! the gauge is behaving normally now, apparently a slipping belt will cause the gauge to fluctuate? Seems to idle better too! Going for a test drive!

I'm not completely against the idea, but it'd have to be the "right one". I am hoping to own this car for a long time (forever, if I can) so it seems sensible to pay a little extra and start with the 240z. I don't know why it really matters if I do decide to modify it, but I guess it's having that option for it to be returned to a 240z at some point if needed! I think if I was going for a non-240z, surely the 280z would be the better option as stated from @rturbo 930, they seem to be the best built? Many thanks! I don't know how I missed this one. That's partly true. Early 260Zs are very similar to late 240Zs. However, late 260Zs are very similar to early 280Zs. I understand why people prefer the 240Z, to an extent I do too. But depending on what you want to do with it, and what characteristics you value in a car, you might be better off with a 280Z. Having seen both a 240Z and 280Z as a stripped down chassis, I can tell you that the 280Z is the better built car. More obvious in some places than others, but it's clear that they had either improved their manufacturing process or their standards between 1970 and 1975. It is heavier, and uglier, but that can be remedied to some extent. It's not hard to swap the tail lights and bumpers. More difficult to remove the additional structure on the chassis for the 5MPH bumpers. Of course, some of that extra weight is in areas of the car where it is beneficial.

That works too. I've always preferred using up and down to describe the direction of travel. Left is loose (rich) and right is tight (lean) would work too.

Mark make sure he understands the mixture knob. I turn mine CLOCKWISE until they are snug, then COUNTER CLOCKWISE to 2.5. I'm sure it's a typo but who knows?

I wanted to say thanks for all of you for putting up with my calamities. I felt like death warmed over the first day I got there, and surely wasn't a lot of fun to be around. (For those of you who weren't there or heard any of the story, I blew out my back a mere 12 hours before I was supposed to get on the plane for ZCON, and almost pulled the plug on the trip due to the pain. Thankfully, I did not.) What really helped was when I hobbled to the show at the Oasis and saw the smiling gang of familiar and new friends. Friends that were clearly surprised that I made the trip. I tried my best to put on a good front that day. but I've heard from many of you that you could tell I was suffering. Just wanted to let everyone know that most of that is behind me now. I'm home, safe, and feeling much better. Not at 100% yet, but well on my way. I want to give a special shout out to my travelling partner Gary @GGRIII for pulling me along and picking up my slack. He took care of all my lifting the entire time I was there, pulled my bag through the airport for me, and even chauffeured me around the first two days as I laid back in the passenger seat of the rental car. I would not have been able to make the trip without him, and he deserves the credit for making this trip happen. I've got a number of pics that I will eventually post, but at this point I'm exhausted. Here's one that can't wait though:

Which direction are the Gros Jet needle valves installed? The rounded end (not the ball) is the contact point to the float tab (tang).They were supposed to be a better design (better mouse trap) but they too leaked at times undoubtedly from foreign matter in the valve. Could some more crud be in them? I've not installed the lids without gaskets before. I don't see why it couldn't be done temporarily. The float will be a little lower (the thickness of the gasket) but I doubt that will affect anything. I doubt that most floats are set exact.

The original version made back in the day was very thin and inexpensive, If you hit a butterfly doing 65mph it would crack. I had 4 in one year on my new 1974 260 which I purchased from Bob's dealership in Danbury. The one shown has three layers of quality cloth and extra resin, It had holes (which were clothed over) which you would use to screw it on. Since the racecar is winched on/off the trailer I installed Zeus fittings instead. The lower valance is a one-piece heavy duty FG version of the three-piece metal parts. I suspect that the writing was just included by the person making it.

new guy here. so i have the interior of my 72 z gutted and have been replacing the floor pans. i got to looking at the firewall insulation/sound deadener which is in pretty bad shape, wondering where to get a replacement. then it hit me. im kneeling on it. while ive been laying on the concrete floor welding floor pans, im laying on that cheap, foam rubber floor matting. i got 4 24x24" pieces today at lowes for $20. this stuff is very easy to cut with a utility knife and fairly soft. here are the pics

Here are pictures of the firewall insulation of a 1/1972 240Z on a "fabric board" with lines 1 inch apart going both ways to allow duplication if for some reason someone wanted to. Note that the top edge of all three pieces of the insulation are lined up with a blue line on the fabric board. Pictures were taken in full sun and have shadows. To clarify where the black insulation poster board ends and the shadow begins white dashed lines have been drawn. This could be printed out and the blue fabric board lines drawn as white lines with a ruler to extend what is on the fabric board across the black insulation to make duplication easier. Or start with a fabric board (cheap, can get in fabric shops) drawing what you see here on the cardboard fabric board as a pattern. The insulation pieces are from a 1972 January MFR date 240Z they didn't come from the car shown in my signature.
