  1. I was in deep thought the other day after watching and reading Sweaty's build and a thought occurred to me, I have had my 240 23 years. WOW!!!! Without being too wordy it was in the back lot of Redondo Beach Z World on a mechanics' hold. I had an 82 ZX that had the engine rebuilt there although at rebuild time it as in better shape than I thought. So I went in one day to check on progress and he let me wander around in his back lot. There it was, hadn't been driven in over 7 years but it was complete. Not a single body part was missing and the interior was complete. I made him an offer of 2K and he accepted. This was the summer of 1994. I always wanted an S30 but had no idea what rebuilding one took. The floors had a bit of cancer but at least I didn't have to pull a Fred Flintstone to stop it. I decided to move back to Florida to go back to school so it was shipped to a really good Z guy I know in Large Florida and he received it and did some basic work on it until I got back from Los Angeles. I got to Florida to pick it up in the spring of 1995. Did a refresh job and had it painted it's current color (Boston Gruene 275) in 2000. Drove it for 5 years until it had a main harness BBQ in 2005. Currently up on jacks in the garage and getting fresh metal underneath and anywhere else it may have needed it. New floor rails and lots of work in the wiper motor cowl. The plan is to have it running again later this year. Enough on that. How about a little history about yours! We would love to hear about it. WOW 23 YEARS!
  2. I think the stock rails were the same strength for all the S30's. The ones from Zedd Findings were a little more robust. I will not be pushing my car harder than stock power for a while, so I may not need extra reinforcement...yet.
  3. You just had one. Homer Simon
  4. Well at any given RPM, a smaller choke will mean a higher velocity air stream to carry the fuel, so it will help everywhere to an extent. One thing you should check, and this will seem weird at first is the manifold you are running. And more specifically the temperature of that manifold. A manifold must be a proper temperature to keep the fuel from pooling inside of it. Now this is a secondary effect for sure, but having an engine at proper temperature is vital. Manufacturers go through great lenghts to ensure the manifold is up to temp quickly for this reason. What temp thermostat are you running? I recommend a 180-190. Probably not your cause, but manifold temperature is not insignificant.
  5. I can just imagine how you're going to tell all the girls how smooth your underside is…….
  6. Yeah, I was thinking the same thing about the location of the washer. Doesn't seem quite right regardless of which side of the clip you put it, but not having ever messed with one, I defer to your notes. Good luck with the reassembly and remember that there has to be an easy way because they sure didn't spend a whole lot of time on it at the factory. There is a trick or a tool. You just have to figure out what that is. Wait a minute... Are you calling us all irrational?
  7. Some detail pics of the valve cover. I think this came out real nice. Took my orange Z to the Motorcars on Main Street show in Coronado today. Personally, I think it is one of the best car shows in San Diego. The Z cars get a lot of attention.

9.5K tops, ideally 8.5K. Work it, baby.

No more than 10K if it were me but he may take 85 or so cash.

He's asking 8k for the car which is a little high to me. I saw the for sale ad. I would question the original paint with that added gold paint stripe. The interior pieces are pretty worn and difficult to find. For supposedly being garaged it's whole life that is a lot of sun damage. I think ZX rust is worse than Z rust and it rust in difficult places, check thoroughly.
  11. Jerry - could not get out for this today but might be able to do something tomorrow afternoon if that's any help. PM me if so. Jim
  12. That is how I felt about the Rally Clock and Oscillator. I found one but for the money I had rather do something that effects the performance such as my MK63/vented rotor upgrade. The Rally Clock is still on my list, but moved down when I established the price. As to not worth what some people are asking, if someone is paying those prices they are worth the price. We should embrace the rising prices it only increases the value of our cars and makes it possible for reproduction part to be offered. Just my 2 cents!
  13. Okay, to help people understand, I went to TireRack.com and copied the specs of two Hankook 225/50R16 tires and a General tire. The first Hankook is a medium performance tire and the second is a max performance summer tire. Note how different the tread widths are between the two tires. Keep in mind, these are both by the same manufacturer and they still vary greatly. The third tire is the same size, but a General. Note again how different the section width and tread widths are. Multiply section width by 25.4 to get the nominal tire width as advertized. The General is small and the Hankooks are much bigger than nominal.
