The Development Story & Specification Of The European Spec Datsun 240Z
Those are some really nice upgrades to the base model examples. Were there "pre-package" Euro deliveries which did not have some of these package features, or were they pretty much all grey market from Australia & elsewhere? Also, which of the described features were on all of the Euro deliveries, or were things like spoilers an extra cost option?

Paint protection film
That sounds pretty good. The front of the car takes a pretty heavy beating over time as well. So, agree with Grannynot - part of the hood. You may want to do the front surfaces of the headlight housings and the three front lower panels as well. I think below the blue lines here: I think it best not to cut the edge so it is on the radius of a body line. Instead, I would cut it at the beginning of where starts to roll from flat... so about a 1/8th of an inch below that body line above. With flares, you will need to do something with the front of the rear flares as well. My track Z started getting beat up there quickly. I put electrical tape on (I like the silver and black contrast). I planned on getting something like the Porsche 930 has, but just never have. If you need to go with clear, consider doing something like this on the quarter panel. It will be visible. On the Z you may want to go from the front edge of the quarter panel (door opening) and along the 'waist line' body line... go far enough back to cover the front third of the flare and radius/curve the top edge down, so the PPF terminates covering about the front 1/4 to 1/3rd of the flare surface. The top and front edges of PPF will collect a bit of dirt over time. Just something to be aware of.

Heating + vice grips did the trick! I'd still like to learn the name of that fitting and get the proper tool for my toolbox.

Need full shock absober kit for my 1972 datsun 240z
I would stay focused on the hot idle in traffic you have been talking about. If you haven't noticed the rough ride from worn suspension I wouldn't be concerned what the quick oil guys say. You'll see that in the wear of your tires. Google "240z struts". They aren't shocks.

Restoration of BringaTrailer 240z - HLS30-35883
I installed the front grill today. As you can see, the paint is a little darker than the original, but I am not interested in painting it for a third time, especially since I have a wrist cast for the next six weeks. Interestingly, when in the sunlight, the original paint does appear to be metallic. The metallic particles seem smaller, less noticeable, but they do reflect. This is not easy to capture in a photo (second pic here): Original grill hardware:

Putting out the feelers
Thanks guys. I really don't want to get rid of her but life is getting expensive. I have a kiddo who will be going to college in 3 years and I'm in a house with a very small garage. One day I'll have a big garage or shop again and I'm sure that's the point I'll regret letting her go.

Need a welder in Seattle
My son has a 72 240Z that he was trying to restore. Last I talked with him, however, it sounded like he was giving up. It needs a number of areas adjacent to both rear wheels and there could be more patch work. With the wheel area he keeps saying that it is inclusive of the structural areas...and we may have the equipment, but nobody is a good welder/sheet metal worker. I was wondering if there are any recommended folks in Seattle that you all have used. Appreciate it Bob Weaver

1980 280zx Fuel Pump won't shut off.
Hey, I just wanted to follow up in case anyone was wondering—turns out it was the ECU/computer after all. Swapped it out all those years ago, and everything has been running perfectly. Appreciate your advice to test instead of just guessing. Helped me narrow it down and get it fixed a lot quicker. Thanks for the help!

FREE! 280ZX brake calipers, Front & Rear
Free -- you cover the cost of shipping and PayPal fee. Complete set of front and rear calipers for a 280ZX (S130). What you see is what you get...some mounting hardware, some (worn) pads, no rotors or soft lines. Year unknown, working condition unknown. Snagged these a couple years ago on FB Marketplace "just in case I might need them". Turns out I don't. Unless you have a preferred shipper that you can send me an account number/prepaid shipping label/etc; I will ship these flat rate USPS. I can fit everything into a single Large flat-rate box, but it's a heavy sucker. Safer approach might be two Medium flat-rate boxes. Thanks for looking.

RACE REPORT: David Love Memorial with CSRG 4/11/25
http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/DSC2065.jpg On April 11-13, Classic Sports Racing Group (CSRG) hosted the David Love Vintage races at Sonoma Raceway. Z Car Garage raced and supported several client’s Datsun 510 race cars running in the B-Sedan Group. It was a great weekend filled with competition, camaraderie and plenty of Alfas, BMWs and Datsuns sharing the track. Enjoy our report with in-car footage and photos Z Car Garage Supports Five Datsun 510s http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/144b184a-f767-4ae6-9488-7a7156af77dd.jpg It is our pleasure to bring more enthusiasts into the world of vintage racing. Our services do include full race support and car-preparation to help make client’s race days seamless and worry-free so they can focus on driving. One of our specialties is dyno tuning. The Historic B-Sedan group had a solid turnout—about the same size and pace as the Vintage B-Sedan/Miata Group 3. Thanks to Rob’s fantastic coaching and support, I was able to set a personal best lap time on Sunday morning and held my spot in the top half of the group. I had a blast trading positions on track with Dave Stone, Glen Chiou, Kelvin Tse, and Jeff Rothman. Huge thanks to the ZCG team for their top-notch car support and coaching throughout the weekend. This is an organization dedicated to the racing exhibitions of 1966–1979 Historic SCCA B-Sedan, C-Sedan, Trans-Am Under-2-Liter, and Two-Five Challenge race cars: GLENN: Since 2018, we have partnered with premier racing organizations such as the Velocity Invitational, CSRG, SVRA, and others to present thrilling run groups that celebrate these iconic machines. Our mission is rooted in honoring the history, camaraderie, and spirit of safe, respectful racing—with a healthy dose of serious fun. The David Love Vintage Races were a perfect showcase of that mission. With around twenty historic sedans in attendance—including Alfa, BMW, Datsun, Mini, and more—we delivered an exhilarating exhibition of vintage racing. Partnering with CSRG and Sonoma Raceway made for a fantastic weekend shared with friends and family. While the David Love Vintage Races was HBC’s only event for 2025, we have big plans for 2026! This car features our Z Car Garage CV Axles and dyno tuning: http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/IMG_1904-1024x768.jpeg It’s worth noting that not unlike privateers of the period, Glenn builds his race cars, maintains and manages racing efforts himself. Not an easy task so we applaud his work ethic. Glenn builds some beautiful Datsuns and we thank him for organizing the Historic B&C Sedan group to keep the spirit of Trans Am racing alive. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/DSC02231.jpg Rob Fuller recaps the event: ROB: Ross Lindell was in the Randy Pobst National Championship-winning Miata (1992), Lora in her Miata and myself my Miata for Vintage Spec Miata. For Datsuns there was the special HBC run group that was super fun. Kenny and Noah were cooking. Kenny, Noah and Tom Dockery all got their PBs. It felt really great to get the Miata back on the track again. Lora was passing people for the first time, that’s huge milestone. We had just gone through Ross’ car and he was super happy with the setup and dyno tune. The weather was absolutely perfect and the run groups filled with beautiful cars. Glenn was out there, Frank Z in his 510, Alfa boys Chet Taylor from SoCal. Wonderful weekend with good times had by all. The Corkscew Classic event at Laguna Seca is coming up next. I was able to achieve my fastest lap time yet at Sonoma and successfully obtained my full competition license, which was a hard- fought goal. I’m so happy that I kept pushing through and finally achieved that milestone! I am so thankful for all the encouragement and coaching I have received from Rob Fuller and the team. Lora recalls a memorable moment: “One of the highlights was meeting a little boy who was celebrating his fourth birthday. All he wanted was to come to the racetrack and see a race car for his birthday. It was so heartwarming to share that moment with him, and he even asked for a picture with my race car and with me, the “race car driver”! It was such a surreal and adorable experience. I think my red Miata must remind children of the red car from the Disney movie Cars! That moment was so unexpected and enjoyable” Super cool to see our client Linda Williams’ 1972 Datsun 240Z OMS Pace Car Duplicate participating in the John Streets Memorial parade lap aside fellow Datsuns/Nissans. 1976 280Z Fuel Issues Troubleshooting
Thank You!!! I was finally able to source a Bosch plastic housing replacement relay on eBay marketed as a VW part. It arrived on Tuesday, and I installed it today. I knew that was it when I turned the key and heard the hum of fuel pump. Once I added some fresh fuel to the tank, I turned the key, watched the fuel pressure gauge climb up to 36 PSIG, and the L28 started and ran! I do need to still do some troubleshooting and fix the backfiring and high idle, but those seem like much smaller challenges now that I have a running car again. Apologies to my neighbors, I think the whole community heard my hollers of joy and elation when the Z fired up this afternoon! A small victory, but a much-needed win for me today with all that has been going on at work.

How vibration free is your 70-71 240Z?
Soccer's a gamble. I felt lucky to have made it through the years with none of the major long-term injuries. I did have to do some PT on a knee. My doctor had been a college athlete and had the "suck it up and take some Advil" attitude. So I went in to weekend warrior mode and tried to tough it out. He sent me to PT when I went back a month later and showed him that the thigh on the injured leg was about 2/3 the size of the good one. The PT shop owner used to do the Cleveland Browns football team. Got me straightend up pretty quick but it still wouldn't bend as far as the other one for about three years. And the tough-it-out doctor was afraid of blood. Later, after the knee, he refused to remove the stitches in my chin because the tails were cut too short (forgot to mention the chin. And the broken collar bone.) and there would be blood if he had to dig them out. I had to go to the drug store and buy some tweezers and pointy scissors to dig them out myself. There was blood. Good times.

Bodywork Issues
I don't think it's an original Nissan hatch seal, as it's sold by the metre. But it sure is better than what I had. It's not a simple seal swap like it would be for the doors. There's 6 interior panels to remove, then the adhesive. Then there's all those push pin clips, oh, I found out where some of those pins are going, I found the mother load. I think I got 14 of them from this one spot with a piece of radiator hose taped to my shop vac and a piece of screen taped over the end.

And for a little "snake oil" friction reducer I add about 4 oz. of TVT Green to the oil change. TVT Green vs Royal purple
