Yea...same here, Beandip. Caught that one just in time. Looks real good! Have a good look at the frame rail as it extends back below the seat mounts.

Trying to sell: 1973 240z (Fairlady Z)
Really good call,Ben! ZL no doubt! Looking at my parts book, the carbs could be the Hitachi HJG 38W-8 for the 2.0 liter; shown from 3/73 on, or they could be the Hitachi HJG 46W-8 for the 2.4 liter from '72 on. How about that air box! I have never seen one like that, before. Ahhh...Texas is so close, yet $12,000 so far away!

Gas door question...?
Hey Jim! Thanks for writing in with your find. I wondered about the closed position of the knob. Now I'm really pretty sure! Have a look at the very early sales pictures and see if you don't agree. I bought HLS30-00403 about a year ago and it had the plastic knob. It was broken, but enough to make a mold from. My best advice about this fragile piece is NEVER use a solvent to clean it. The plastic is very "soft" and will desolve. And melt quite easily under heat also. It is UV sensative and gets brittle with age. Very easy to spot - the shape is only similar to the more common metal / chromed version; not nearly as "sculpted" and rounded with hard corner edges. Possibly, it is PN 788200-E4100, but it could be one ot those things where the part changed without a number revision. I talked with Matsuo san in California about the peculiar early parts and his conversation described them as left-over from the prototype models. My plans include making a few and I have a place in mind to have them chromed.

240Z orig. radio - no brackets?
Ok, you have the later style with the antenna switch on top. It should fit between the supports welded to the tunnel.

240Z orig. radio - no brackets?
Phil, Have a look at the tabs welded on the tunnel and see if it looks like 26th. The radio should have a bracket with threaded holes on each side of the radio case to mount on to these brackets. Perhaps you have a later style arrangement requiring a sub frame. Depending on the year of your car, you may have the vertical antenna switch on the side of the radio face plate or the horizontal switch on the top of the radio face plate. Sent you a PM

Gas door question...?
Early fuel doors came with a chromed metal finger latch that twisted open and closed. The crome knob closes in the horizontal position and the metal casting is a formed, rounded shape. Extremely early cars came with a similar mechanism, but chromed plastic in a squared rigid shape. I think, but not entirely certain, that it closed in the vertical position.

Original interiors of series 1 cars
Hi Kats! I do not think we will find many members of the "red dot" club. Red dot is so very very rare. Even I am not a member! Here is original vinyl from 27th. When I took this picture, I was more concerned with the sewing seam as I noticed a difference between the original and the replacement vinyl I bought. The seam for original is folded top over side and sewn on top. My replacement vinyl is folded side over top and sewn side. See my diagram.

Biggest, baddest, Z-car show in the State and then there is the ZCCA national convention in Daytona - October 2007. You came to the right place, my friend. Certainly, there are a ton of the later verZions in Florida, but we have SERIOUS early cars here also!

Original interiors of series 1 cars
Yea, isn't that something? I had heard from people like Carl that the pattern was oriented differently, but this is the first picture I have seen comparing the two and it causes me to not only look at the new stuff I have, but check to see what 27th has as she is possibly more original than 26th. I replaced the vinyl in 26th in 1990 without paying attention and then I bought a new vinyl set for her restoration now. I have to do some research. I do know that the pattern orientation is not random. It is consistant from car to car. And do I think this is "over the top"? No.

Here is something I was only slightly aware of, but did not give much thought to until I found this. What are your comments? I believe this is correct.

What is the most valuable thing about this Club
I remember the kidney stone episode! And half-a-dozen other great episodes! Great entertainment, this site! I have said this before and I will keep on saying it; the best part about "our club" is the members and the great people I have become friends with. Friends all over the world. Can't even begin to tell you how much I have learned from the people I have met here. And the same goes for their generosity! Thank you all. Chris

Help with parts ID and rebuild Ideas
Ok. Well then you may be pleased to know that we plan to have a Dyno at the show and you may be able to see the fruits of your labor in documented bragging rights. It sounds to me like you have a Schneider cam http://www.schneidercams.com/cams/50.htm PN 17034 which is sold by MSA as 10-2003 and described as; " rougher idle, excellent performance, pulls hard from 3000 rpm to 6500 rpm". From your description of the E88 head, it sounds like you have a ported, big valve setup. My only suggestion is that you pay particular attention to the balance of the bottom end during your re-build. Balance everything, pulley to clutch, and get your pistons and rods to all weigh the same. That should give you plenty of excitement! See you at Z-Fest!

Original interiors of series 1 cars
I would imagine an interiors thread is the wrong place to talk about ball joints, but I have received some new information (new to me) which sheds light on the issue. Technical Bulletin TS70-60 published December 16, 1970 indicates replacement of the original ball joint and steering knuckle from the 15mm shaft diameter to the 17mm shaft diameter. The begining serial number is noted as HLS30-07985. Part numbers are: ball joint assembly 40160-A8600 and knuckle arm 40052/53- E4102 sold in sets. My personal car show judge opinion is not to worry about the difference in ball joint sizes; it will never be noticed. My personal opinion as a car guy is go with the larger (ie. safer) ball joint and knuckle size.

** Florida Z fest 2006 **
More news from the developing event plan. On-line registration is now open at www.flza.com and we are moving forward with that software. Ellis AutoworkZ of Tampa www.ellisautoworkz.com will be conducting a Dyno exhibition with their new Dyno Dynamics http://www.dyno.com.au/ I watched the machine in action last Saturday. It provides a color printout in graph form of horsepower, torque and fuel / air ratio.

** Florida Z fest 2006 **
The pieces are begining to fall into place in our hastily assembled plan. We think we can get 100 cars under 50,000 square feet of roof along with a great deal of outside space to work with. Here is the first parking plan. The building overlooks a lake, providing a real nice setting for having your car photographed and an arrangement has been made with a photographer to shoot cars and make prints on location. I am going up to Tampa this morning to talk to a guy about bringing his dyno to the event. Our dealer / sponsor, Reed Motors, will be asked to set up a display of current Nissan vehicles - especially their "Bottom Line" sales campaign. Their will be exhibits for cleaning and polishing, "clear-bra" protection applications, and Datsun / Nissan apparel for the fashion minded. Several seminars are planned for topics concerning car show judging and club sponsorship activities.

That chrome tail light finisher is the sign of the Northern Goth Samuri. Thier traditional dress is silver and chrome with large fender flares because of the size of thier feet. I have seen both blue and black interior interpretations in my studies. I understand that their women are traditionally shaved and very smooth. Isn't that right, CDavid?
