  1. You are so lucky Kats! You make us very happy with these posts.....and a little jealous! Keep it up!
  2. Nissan sent jets filled with US dealers to Japan out of appreciation. Flying journalists on a 1 hour flight to NYC is nothing. There are 5 documented 240z's flown to the USA around the time of the show in Oct 1969. HLS30-00004 to 8 inclusive. Another one or two came over by jet in Dec. Why not add to these discussions rather than nit picking?
  3. BIG THANKS MIKE! I could only find the "import auto show" in Vancouver which was Sept and too early.
  4. As mentioned, I'm still looking... this is all I have so far on Vancouver. I'd be grateful if you shared more.
  5. I dare you to show a photo of the Pierre Hotel event! I have never seen one. If you were tracking correctly, the photo you refer to is the NYC show in April 1970 and it was a green car with bumper over rider.
  6. You jump the gun again... here is a glimpse of the Hoover Bag. Press Preview falls under Press directory. Same as Pierre Hotel show. Tokyo show is included in my list. Please read twice and insult once.
  7. Correct. HLS30-00006 was not at the International Auto Show, NYC in April, 1970. Bob Sharp had ownership by then. He received it ~ early Feb after it was damaged at a Jan show in Montreal. Here is what @Carl Beck shared about the 1969 show at the Pierre Hotel in NYC: Oct. 22nd, 1969 was the date that Nissan Motors Ltd. held its International Preview of the Datsun 240Z in New York, NY. According to Mr. Dunn - who headed the PR Firm that handled the arrangements at the time -The International Preview {planned weeks in advance} was held in New York instead of the more usual US automobile model introductions held in Detroit - - because Nissan did not want to seem disrespectful of the U.S. Auto Industry. {by introducing an import car in the heart of the US Auto Industry aka Detroit } The Datsun 240Z was flown in from Japan the week before, so the display could be built in the Grand Ballroom of the hotel. The introduction of the Datsun 240Z was made by Mr. M. Okuma, Managing Director of Nissan Motor Co. Ltd., Export Division, accompanied by Mr. Y. Katayama, President of Nissan Motor Corp. in U.S.A. and Mr. S. Kawazoe, Vice President of Nissan Motor Corp. in U.S.A.. Because most of the automotive reporters at the time were located in Detroit, Nissan chartered a plane to bring the Detroit media to New York for the event and to return them home after. After the International Preview in NY - the 240Z was flown to L.A. - where it made it's West Coast Debut the 24th of Oct. 1969 at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Hollywood. {the Hotel used in the movie Pretty Woman and many others} He also mentioned in another thread that the organizer recalled the car to be gold. Here are some shows I've been tracking looking for Z info on the web. @Mike B and @26th-Z have great info too:
  8. who needs a car stereo when you can wear a bone phone? ahhh the 70's audio industry! https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2013/09/bone-fone-the-terror/279474/
  9. I think a Z with 250 GTO body kit and @grannyknot's BMW engine would be the way to go IF you wanted a Ferrari! Probably would even beat a real 250 GTO at Le Mans
  10. Lotus Elise Ford GT Lancia Stratos
  11. Ahhhh building with wood! I love it... Nice stuff.
  12. Z is better
  13. I agree, I think the car in the service manual was HLS30-00001, 2 , 3 or an earlier pre-production chassis. (#4 &#5 were the test cars sent to North America in early Oct 1969) Photos of HLS30-00013 did not have these unique parts shown in the service manual. It is still fun finding these small changes ?
  14. Wow where did you get a turbo motor in Nfld?
  15. FYI: https://www.topgear.com/car-news/tgs-guide-japan/driving-wonderful-mzr-roadsports-datsun-240z#1
  16. The Internet used to be good. Now it is mostly greed. The Ebay-owned Kijiji started as free advertising now they limit ads, charge for certain ads, and fill it up with paid ads.... it is no longer a classified ad tool. These need to be replaced as they became fat and bloated.
  17. Made in China.... no quality control.... just ship them all and let the people down stream deal with the flaws.
  18. Jim's flattering cake and gift!
  19. @kats@mikeb@26th-Z@HS30-H ~aug-sept 1969 had different fuel pump fittings (source: L24 engine manual) ~aug-sept 69 had different fuel rail: send and return connected at dual port banjo rather than in rail. (source:engine manual)
  20. Buzzed out school in 1973! Teacher hit the floor.
  21. The trick is to find an idle jet for a cruise of ~ 14.7 then go back to idle and adjust the enrichment screws to taste. 13 works nice for a smooth idle but 14-15 is cleaner but not as smooth. I wonder if you could do a run with the timing retarded 5 degrees and at normal to see if the rich spot is affected.
