  1. Sticking them to the lids made getting the lids on and off easier for me plus they won't tear as quick. They last a little longer too, unlike a wine bottle's cork.
  2. My stock 240 tach works great with the ZX distributor. The fonts are so different, I'd think the ZX one will stick out like a sore thumb. My $.02 worth.
  3. Plus one on what Rossi says above. And glue the cork gasket onto the lids of the float bowl RIGHT BEFORE TIGHTENING IT DOWN (sorry for the caps, I'm not too good with my phone). I put RTV on mine right off the bat, sat there maybe 10 minutes and had to reapply after removing the dried up RTV. 8^(
  4. Instead of cans, have your friends tie all the old parts onto the Z. A couple of distributors and the old radiator would be funny. 8^)
  5. They say there's not enough digits in a Zs VIN# and starting with an H is wrong. They've put mine down as starting with a 4. A 4 looks just like an H.
  6. It's all "yuckity, yuck yuck". It works great on custom service calls.
  7. I want to go! Your maps are fun. 8^)
  8. When you/it does this the next time, feel all the fuses and the fusible links to see if any are a little warm. I had a brand new alternator that was bad and killed all my gauges through the ignition. I read that it was was back feeding? through the ignition. It did smoke the IGN fuse though. A lot of the lights you mentioned are powered through the combo light switch on the right side of the steering wheel. Do you have the green background lights on the speedo and tach?
  9. When I first bought my 280 my mechanic bent those arms on the tps trying to get the stumble out. He'd twist the throttle rod and look then bend it some. Turns out it was the coolant sensor. I put a potentiometer in line and it runs great now. Fwiw
  10. I'd like to know more about my car. Where should I take a photo of the underside of the dash? Thanks for any info.

  12. I'll tell you the mistake I made the first couple of tries. The motors tilt to the passenger's side and I had the lobe pointing straight up when I set mine. Now I have a Sharpie line drawn down the center of the cam towers. I bought a 17mm wrench for the locknut now, I'd been using a 17mm crowfoot socket. I still need the crowfoot on one or two but the 17mm wrench in my right hand and leave the 14mm on the adjusting nut with my left hand makes tightening them down alot easier. For what that's worth.
  13. My orange 240 has very little rust overall but due to a leaky valve at the heater core inlet and outlet it had seeped coolant for no telling how long and thanks to that jute my passenger floor board will need replacing someday. For the time being I've got a "NO FAT CHICKS" sticker on the passenger door. @jalexquijano here's the thread on the gray spray paint for the rear finisher you were asking about.
  14. Here's as close to the color that I've seen. I used Dupli-Color Graphite but it is more metallic than this Dupli-Color Dark Shadow Gray. I think this is more like the "matchbox striker" I've always heard that gray called. I'm tempted to redo mine someday with this color but for now it looks okay with my Graphite Rewinds.
  15. Have you been watching bringatrailer.com, they have some Zs.
  16. Try a cold valve adjustment first. #6 might have a loose valve that's not sealing and loosing compression.
  17. That's a tough guess without pictures. I think I would take the carbs and front bumper off the 71 & put them on the 73. I've only been around one 73 and those are the two things I didn't like. Are you wanting to drive one or make money? Sale them both and get what you want.
  18. You should squirt some oil in the plug holes for sure. About a teaspoon' s worth. It'll give you a better seal and show a truer reading. You should also cover the cam and valvetrain with oil. My tester has a Schrader valve that could leak. Also has an oring a the top of the threads that could be missing? Does it have teflon tape on the gauge to the hose?
  19. ZCON 2016 is coming up soon. If you could get someone attending to look for cars for sale and set you up with some contact information that would be good. There was a few nice ones for sale at 2015's event. Offer a finders fee.
  20. The neg side of the battery goes to the top starter bolt. The positive goes to the solenoid post that's closet to the battery, not the closet to the block with the visable copper braided ground wire. The remote starter goes on the positive post of the solenoid. The other clips onto spade plug in the middle, pull the small wire off first though.
  21. Somebody was talking about coolant gushing out of the hose in their engine bay, can't remember the thread. Here's what you do with some rubber, chair leg stoppers would be the best, I think Mr Jim Arnett showed me that on a plug for the air filter. I used pieces of hose before I read his suggestion. Passenger's footwell on the left or the right side of the transmission hump.
  22. I'm following your footsteps, only behind your's by 7 months and a day. I washed and put some moisturizer on mine today after being down for over a year. After the Bellagio squirter, Wiped off
  23. When you get it working I can tell you how to operate it.
  24. Figure up the rebuild parts price and your time then consider getting a Cardone reman from amazon.com. I bought one for $100. Make sure and enter a '79 280ZX, I think it's a D6K8? There's an Excel spread sheet with all the different years and specs, Walter Moore put it together I believe. I can post it later or you can google Zx distributor curves spreadsheet.
