It cost me $50 and a Saturday afternoon to do mine the way I figured from that Tech Tip I showed you the other day and after reading Red-Kote's instruction sheet. I think your's has coating settled in the bottom. At first I thought it was rust like the sides have, definitely rust on the sides. I think the previous owner had it cleaned and coated either himself or a radiator shop did it. He put it back in and then fuel too soon now you have what you seen. I bought everything at Lowes hardware but a few empty 5 gallon buckets, I get those free from work. Speaking of work. I need to go down there a an hour or two but when I get home I'll find my write up I posted for someone a few years ago and link it in this thread. Sometime this afternoon. Don't spend your $600 yet. Muratic acid and some baking soda from the Dollar Store, acetone and a quart of Red-Kote. You'll be set. Give me a couple of hours. Cliff

After acid and baking soda then acetone. Then Red-Kote Mine turned out good but it was very much a process thing. You have to do things in order and fast. Sometimes people get in a hurry to get them back in and don't wait out the curing time. It takes every bit of a week. I was rebuilding my motor so mine sat for a month before I put it back in. Somebody was talking a replacement tank a month or two ago that is now being reproduced. I'm thinking $600? Here you go.

Where are the coils wires? Maybe they're tucked under? Looks like the air box is taped up in the front. What's the story on that? Your back 3 are missing spark or too much fuel for sure. If it'll crank and idle at all, do that and pull one plug wire at a time and see what it does. Just saw the tank photo. It looks good and clean.

The disable button makes the rpm raise? That is odd, it makes mine run half on everything. My easy thing first suggestion would be to poke on the floats through the fuel inlet with the red straw that comes with WD-40. They maybe stuck in the bowls from shipping dry?

Take pictures of that stuff and post them. You'll be amazed at what these guys see that can get overlooked by the owner. Have you adjusted the valves yet? That helped mine because they were so far out of whack. You can do them cold without a running motor. Check the spark at the plug boots. Post pictures of your plugs. There's some folks on here that have 240s they bought new and still drive them regularly. And I promise you can't show too many photos. I'm just trying to facilitate your issues. The big guns have to be pulled out from under their beds.

I ran my dog around the block in between rain showers and thought about it. In my experience if you can't get it to run with the fuel pump pulling from a small gas jug you might start looking at the ignition. Fuel you have and air you have. That leaves fire/spark. I bought a 240 that wouldn't run and it turned out to be a loose black wire on the oe distributor. I got rid of that thing and upgraded to a ZX one. Ran then, but that's when I figured out the gas tank was full of crud. Anyway, something to think about. Don't get zeroed in on the tank. It could be a few other things and you've found the right place to get good solid information.

Those hoses go to the evap tank in the hatch. Some people completely remove them so no the brittle hose wouldn't cause a problem on the fuel delivery. You have the steps mixed up. The soda and water kills the acid. The denatured alcohol evaporates the soda and water before you apply the coating. I would wash it out with water if your not going to recoat then pour a quart of denatured alcohol in and slosh it around, drain that out and put a leaf blower in the big hole to dry it. Take pictures down the big hole and post them up. *Neutralizes the acid*

I did exactly what Zed Head did on my O'Reilly radiator too but I didn't drill a hole for draining. I have to pull the lower hose off to get the fluid out. I also used Teflon tape as Heyitsrama suggest.

And if you can't/won't read it use a clear storage tub from Walmart to drain the tank. Well yeah! I snipped it from your thread in 2013. You are the man Chas! So helpful to everyone. And to the OP there's what I call a top hat seal in there too. Be very careful those are nla. Use good thick teflon tape on everything and you'll be good to go.
