Nothing wrong with being prepared. 6 months is a lot. I'm sitting here. prepared, for me, but not for the rest of society. Not looking forward to reading about or hearing about people dying, maybe even losing friends or family. This is kind of back to politics but it brings things home - this is why we have the "Feds". It's their job. Let's hope they can figure out what they're doing.

Why do you live down in the part of the country that is going to fall in to the sea? ?

I've pondered this before and thought "our intelligence agencies should know this. We have the most powerful surveillance tools and personnel in the world." Hard to tell what's really going on anywhere in the world since the intel agencies have been castrated. China hides a lot but we're so interconnected that I don't really think that they could hide something this big. I tend to believe it.

    They should build a wall.

Nobody is really talking about where our food comes from yet. Fresh produce, chicken, beef, seafood, dairy products. Somebody will have to address that issue soon. Somebody at one of Perdue's massive chicken farms is going to get the virus. What then?

I like the tsunami analogy. Some people hunt for seashells when the tide goes way out, some run like hell. Here's the latest. You can see that China's efforts have paid off.

Regional stuff. I moved from the Portland metro area and live in Northern Washington state now. I can still find food at the supermarket and people are still out and about at the various parks and hiking trails. Don't know how long it will last. They have the spring break problem here, I see young people frolicking who don't give a crap about distance or contact. Disease vectors everywhere, I can easily imagine a big jump in cases, out of what seems like nowhere. But it's easy to see, walking the streets. Saw a nice orange 240Z the other day. The weather is nice. Doesn't help with "shelter-in-place" at all.
  8. I'm surprised that you found it at all. I wonder if they have 280Z breaker plates.

That's why actually watching those morning briefings is important. You can see the man for what he is. Even biased media reports don't show what you can see by watching, live. It can't be put in to words. He is in way over his head but won't let the pros do their job. We've all known people like that. Many people are getting exposed by this crisis. Some things cannot be B.S.'ed away.

Didn't even know this web site existed. But it does. "The President's 15 day Guidelines" are there. Didn't know about those either. https://www.coronavirus.gov/

The name "Eisenhower" keeps coming to my mind, but I don't understand why. The Coronavirus daily briefing has been all about border control, so far. Every speaker has to say great things about the President's leadership before they can speak. Now Azar is spinning the facts to say that we've been ahead of the game all along. And he's talking about border control again. Unbelievable, this is incredible. I think that he's going to say that we will be executing all immigrants soon. Bow to the President and introduce the next speaker. Finally, someone is offering real useful information.... These updates are actually good entertainment. Everyone should watch them if they can. He's riffing hard now...the President, that is. Nasty questions... Serious, turn it on, it's happening right now. SEAN SPICER is in the audience to ask a softball question about insider information. I can still see his lime green outfit in my head... It's all media-bashing now. Poor Dr. Fauci. Azar just demonstrated clearly that he does not know what "leadership" means. Buy GM! They'll be making ventilators. Trump says. Pence is defending the President again. Trump is saying that he "inherited' a broken system. But they have rebuilt it, "It's incredible, what it can do. We've done a great job. We haven't been given the credit we deserve." And... that's it, it's over, those were the final words.

Pompeo's on the stand today. What a show. It's about to start... Here comes Boris...

Burr is asking the Senate ethics committee to investigate (that's humor). We should move on. Looks like many states are locking down. I'd hate to be living in a big city right now.
  15. Zed Head replied to Zed Head's topic in Open Chit Chat
Maybe. Part of the discussion is about why he wasn't talking about the impending train wreck sooner, if he did know. Even the most supportive are having problems understanding it. https://www.thedailybeast.com/tucker-carlson-says-richard-burr-should-resign-and-be-prosecuted-if-he-cant-explain-stock-dump
  16. You can pull the cable out partially and insert just the end of the cable in to the speedometer. You can even twist it between your thumb and finger and should see the speedo needle move. It will then be disconnected at the transmission end, but the sheath will still be connected. That might work for you, the transmission end might slip in more easily, since it's a different shape. Pull the speedo end out, firmly place it in to the speedo, then screw the end of the sheath down. You might not have to get under the car to mess with the other end at all. I think that you are being too cautious. It's a very simple mechanism. Easy to take apart and put back together. Not as mysterious as it seems.

If you're not planning to reinstall a vacuum bottle it's kind of moot. Pointless. Can't really drive around sucking on a tube to get heat.

There will always be people who respond without reading and thinking first. Many politicians depend on that.

https://www.opensecrets.org/news/2020/03/burr-unloaded-stocks-before-coronavirus/ Never mind. The facts tell their own story.
  20. I'm telling you man...pull that thing right out of there. All the way. Make it naked. Grab the cable end and pull and it will slide right out. If you can't get it back in it's broken anyway. Here's one look at that end. Yours looks pretty normal. The tip doesn't have the serrations. https://jdm-car-parts.com/products/reproduction-speedomter-cable-for-datsun-240z-260z-and-280z

Probably. My point was more about politicians profiting from the plight of the masses. I was being sarcastic. Burr knew so you have to think that many of his colleagues knew. Look at how the efforts to get things started were slow-walked over the last weekend. It's sociopathic, by definition, I think.

OHSU is a well-respected teaching university in Portland, Oregon. They predict that infections will double every 6.2 days. https://katu.com/news/coronavirus/number-of-coronavirus-infections-to-double-every-6-days-ohsu-researchers-say

https://www.ft.com/content/a26fbf7e-48f8-11ea-aeb3-955839e06441 Edit - a sign of the "Times". I clicked through a Tweet to some really nice work showing charts about each country. But, apparently, you have to pay to see it now. Sorry about the link.
  24. At least pull it out and look first. We like to see damage. Assume, but verify. http://woodworkerb.com/home/datsun-240z-rebuild/speedometer-cable-replace/ https://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/classic01a/45-4101B
  25. Did you look at it? You can pull the whole cable out out of its sheath and examine it. Sometimes they break in the middle. Pull it out, make sure its complete, give the ends a close look, clean it up, add some lube, and shove it back in the sheath. After they wear there can be enough room to get the sheath locked down without having the cable inside registered at its ends. I have had that happen. Like people are saying, the ends of the cable have to be set in their holes. The sheath just holds it together once you get the ends placed properly.
