  1. The sound of the inline 6 L series motor wound up on any straight on any race track is an incredible sound......music to my ears. When I hear a V8 on the same straight, I expect to see a Cobra, a Corvette or a Mustang. IMO, that sound is what makes a Z a Z. I'll never forget the first time I heard (and saw) Morton and Sharp coming down the hill to the Esses at Road Atlanta. It's what makes a Z a Z............as it should be! IMHO
  2. Mally....The blue is awesome........I restored a 67 912 about 10 years ago.....brings back memories.
  3. If you bead blast it to metal.....then apply. Not nearly as good as ceramic coating, but that's $150.00.
  4. Jonathan.....I bead blast each item......I acid etch prime the front cover and valve cover.....I then spray with VHT aluminum paint. All painted parts such as the pulley, alternator bracket, motor mounts etc. Are bead blasted, acid etch primered, then painted with Datsun Blue spray paint from Classic Datsun or other correct colors. I use new thermostat housing, cover etc. The best part is installing all these like new parts with new hardware from Datsun Spirit. It makes for a nice looking finished product.
  5. A little more progress...........Eiji's bolt kit and Z Therapy quality work make for a nice looking motor.
  6. Mine is a transition 72.......which mount would it use Carl? G
  7. Does anyone know if you can use an auto transmission cross member on a manual tranny?

Correct......and the water inlet and thermostat housing to head and cover gaskets, mechanical fuel pump, distributor gasket, manifold gasket and carb gaskets.

I put the front cover gaskets on dry as well as the water pump....."0" problems. I do use a little hardening "form a gasket" on the top edges where the front cover gasket fits against the head gasket.
  10. This is a great thread.........keep us updated. You're doing it right.....NICE WORK!
  11. Definitely ........fix it!
  12. I buy Panasports at Spruell Racing in Atlanta.....770 457 2532........ Tires at TIRERACK.COM
  13. and....Yugo's
  14. I'm an SU fan.......plenty of power throughout the power band....."0" problems. Everyone I know that owns sidedraft carbs are constantly changing this or that....fuel leaks etc. My SU's in my modified L28's run to redline in every gear.....w/o the constant attention to linkage, air/fuel ratios etc. Believe me, the SU's are very exhilarating! Sorry Mitchell.....
  15. Nice looking green Z next to his white car in the photo display on his web site.......
  16. I have no idea......All 3 of my L28 motors are Stage III......the L24's are Stage II. The L28's run about 165 rear wheel h.p.
  17. Both cams idle pretty much as stock. The Stage III has a little tiny bit of lope. The Stage III just feels stronger through all RPM bands. Jon Mortenson is right.......there is no reason not to go Stage III. The only mod you need is the shorter valve seals when you exceed .460 inch lift......plus the performance valve springs and retainers of course.
  18. I think when everyone sees your thread and how Eiji worked with you Zedy, they will realize that Datsun Spirit is a great outfit.
  19. ........a few more items added.
  20. Believe me......Eiji must have gotten some help......he doesn't get along with computers!
  21. That's more like it.......Eiji is definitely a perfectionist when it comes to building Datsun motors.
  22. Mitchell......I did cave to a Stage III cam........I notice quite a difference between the II and III.
  23. Steve......I'm running the Nissan N42 head gasket......."0" deck height (I shaved .020 inches off the flat tops).
  24. Progress......Now that I've got a car for the motor, I'm moving forward. This motor will go in the 918 orange 72.
  25. You're very lucky to have a friend who really knows body geometry. Many people restore cars with unknown accident history only to find their beautiful Z goes through a set of tires every 1500 miles. My 71 restoration was out 1/4 inch and we replaced the driver side clip. I would have never known it if my body man didn't also run a frame shop. Really nice job Torby. Keep the pics coming.
