  1. My thoughts exactly. Putting em together is most of the fun. 5’s enough though, even though I think a Sunshine Yellow Z would be nice!

All kinds of possibilities: The valve could have gotten sticky The valve lock might not have been all the way in Could have just been a fluke I would have real hope if the spark plug wasn't trashed. The valve might be bent but shouldn't be cost prohibitive to get corrected

If you are super super lucky. He's saying to find a way to hold the valve stem up so it doesn't drop in to the cylinder if the piston is down. You could also rotate the engine to bring the picton up so that it will hold the valve up while you collect those parts that are scattered around. Or you could remove the spark plug and fill the chamber with rope or tubing. Many tricks. Don't rotate the engine until you have a plan. In the meantime - have you removed the spark plug yet? If the electrodes are all smashed up that means there's been valve head damage and the head will have to come off. You can also shine a light in to the hole to see if the piston is up. You can learn a lot just by removing a spark plug.
  4. Without meaning to shill for this vendor, they have really taken the Z restoration process a completely new level when compared with the bad old days of Tabco-or-make-your-own. I just checked their website and was pleasantly surprised to see that they've pretty much doubled their range of Z repair panels from the time when I last checked in 2020 (the 240Z catalog now includes 44 items). Some of the noteworthy additions: radiator bulkhead front inner fender patch panels, c/w separate 'pocket' piece for the crossmember join area and separate 'doubler' panel for the K-box area firewall repair panels (lhs and rhs) battery tray - separate, or c/w inner fender patch panel dogleg repair pieces - inner and outer, plus lower B-pillar piece front fender lower-rear patch panels, c/w mounting details Worth a look. KF Vintage JDM 240Z Separate catalogs for 280Z, 510 and 620 (!)
  5. I ordered those (LH & RH) from Auto Panel Solutions in the UK. He makes a wide range of parts including the firewall and rad support areas and much more. Good guy to work with. You can find him on FB.
  6. I would check the suspect areas. Maybe use paint stripper. If there's rust underneath, it needs to be cleaned. A nice paint job won't last over rust
  7. Colombia, as in South America. When I dealt with them in 2019, the sales office was based in Florida (Miami, IIRC), but the parts are stamped in Colombia. If you do a little snooping on line, you can find some pictures of the factory. They made their rep supplying the VW microbus community and then decided to branch out into other types of vehicles. Datsun and Toyota models were chosen to lead the way.
  8. @Barefootdan I've read your entire post on your build and loving it!! Keep up the good work!
  9. Wow, thats a LOT of beer! I know who I'm gonna call when I'm in the area! And I wouldn't be surprised if the Heineken you have there is better than the Heineken you export.

Be very careful messing with that. The valve lock is gone. So if you take the pressure off the stem, the valve's gonna drop into the motor. Would be interesting to put air to the cylinder to hold the valve up. If it stays up and holds air pretty good. i would reassemble it and run a compression test. These engines are very tough. My first concern would be a bent valve stem
  11. I would say no to stripping paint in areas that it's not needed
  12. There stuff is amazing and accurately done. Got a shed full of it. Almost makes me want to take on one more major rust repair challenge. There is this somewhat rusty 71 in storage that I should.... no, yes, not, yes. ah dang it... And more exciting, is that they are starting to do 510 stuff as well! Be still my beating heart

  16. Plait, got the exhaust mocked up, so I could figure out the extension to need. Good news is my header came with ~ 30” Y pipe, and that length and beds are perfect to mate of to the Zstory exhaust. So I’m going to the muffler shop and see if I can have them fabricate an identical pipe that 2.5” instead of 2” secondary pipe. See pics below. The β€œS” pipe is slightly touching the bolt on the control arm but otherwise it’s a good fit. Green circle on the last pic is my 2” extension pipe off the header. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. She’s in!!! My 14 year old son helped me. Just the two of us.

I think I found the problem. See attached picture. Question now is how do I fix it?
