  1. The visible rust is about 10% of what's really there. 90% is hidden. There may be a reason behind the dealer not having enough time to put it on a lift. I wouldn't consider it until I could look it from all angles.
  2. I know this is an old thread, but I thought I would share my info for future searchers. I have a 1977 280z, (77/78 Senders mount on top). This is the Thermistor I used to fix my Fuel light. This at your own risk as the sensor resides in the fuel tank, wrong thermistors can overheat and be dangerous. I'm just sharing what I used. The light has been working for a year now.
  3. Perhaps you could just not do the seats until after the car is drive-able, then drive to the states to put some break-in miles on, and get the seats done. Put them in as is, throw a piece of foam down and cover with a beach towel. Drive it down here to Colorado and I'll introduce you to my guy...just sayin'. Cheers, Mike
  4. In 2020 I will have been producing performance exhausts for 10 years ! Firstly, I would like to thank all my loyal customers over the years to make this happen and I’ve been rewarded in return by having many of you as friends. I’d also like to thank all those Z-professionals and track, rally and hill-climb competitors who continue, respectively, to sell and exploit my parts ! To celebrate this I’ve produced some exclusive super-goodies which I’m including as gifts* with each 2020 order and so as to be clear : Silencer, muffler order = free keyring (your choice) Manifold/header order = free T-shirt (quote size ‘L’ or ‘XL’) Complete kit = free 10yrs keyring and T-shirt (quote size ‘L’ or ‘XL’) These items may also be bought seperately with worldwide shipping** included in the prices below : Keyring 10 yrs : us$11 Keyring Z profile 50yrs : us$15 T-shirt 50yrs : us$23 (two sizes only ‘L’ and ‘XL’) *so long as stocks lasts ! **I will group ship so as to reduce the overall shipping cost. Obviously if bought as an extra and included in an exhaust order, there will be no shipping cost ; so less expensive ! Please contact me via mail (or PM) for any enquiries : seanz@wanadoo.fr So, Merry Christmas and I wish you all a happy and above all healthy New Year with new Z (and ZX) adventures !
  5. Hey everyone! I'm brand new to the forums and have been looking around for the past year or so to get into the Z car community by finding a good project car. I found this one on consignment at a dealer about an hour and a half away from me and took a trip over to take some pictures and document it as well as possible. Unfortunately, the dealer didn't have time to get it on the lift to get good pictures of the underbody. The car has around 56k miles on what should be the original engine and transmission, but the dealer is also including a free 5-speed with the car. The owner is asking $14k for it, which I believe to be clearly over what it's worth. Before I go back more seriously I'd like to try to get you guy's help to determine how much the car is actually worth. The car looks to be mostly straight and mechanically good, panel gaps look uniform and the doors close well, so I don't have any reason to believe it's been wrecked in the past or anything. Apparently the car runs well, but I haven't had the opportunity to hear it for myself. My greatest concern lies in the rubber undercoating that might be masking the car rotting away. The car comes as is, it doesn't have the front bumper/anything else that's missing. The only thing included that's on the car is the 5-speed I mentioned earlier. My other concern is that water is still getting into the vehicle and it's currently outside, so every time it rains water gets in. There's about an inch of water sitting in the bottom of the spare tire compartment as well. If there are any questions you guys have that I could answer or ask the dealer to answer to help value the car, let me know. Thanks for the help everybody.
  6. Here's a good read on the swap over,
  7. Ok, got a part today that is good news and confirms shift fork compatibility AND availability. One more Fs5W71B saved from the scrap heap. 32811-58S10 is the 3/4 shift fork from a Fs5W71C transmission. It is a usable replacement for both the 1-2 and 3-4 shift fork in FS5W71B with aluminum forks, and would also replace the 4 sp version metal forks. One tiny snag. The roll pin hole in the C and B type 5sp forks are larger than the 4 sp forks. If you break a 4 sp fork, you will need to drill the rod roll pine hole out to 0.195 or 15/64. A number 8 drill bit is good enough. Let me also repeat that the C type 1-2 shift fork will NOT WORK in the B types, it fits a larger diameter selector ring.
  8. if anybody is interested I removed the 90 degree baldwin filter that was 15 micron and installed a purolator 10 micron straight through filter and my pressure went to 3.5psi. I did not check if I could raise the pressure higher with my regulator I was happy with the 3.5psi. my l28 seem to run better with the higher pressure going from 2.7 psi with the airtex and now with the carter the psi is 3.5psi .is seems like less throttle to move the car now . hope this review help anybody interested in a quiet pump with good pressure .
  9. I just want a fair price for my car. I’m ok with getting less if that means less effort and less hassle. But not stupid less. There was one guy at the Japanese Nostalgic Car Meet who told me that my asking price was more than fair. He then invited me to come over to his vacation home in the future to see his horses. Super, super friendly. A few days later, he made me a stupid lowball offer for the car with a photo of the garage spot where he’d keep the car. I am just tired of dealing with these kinds of people.
  10. And one guy said there were engine problems because of the popping sound in the driving video. If you didn't know any better that could have easily scared someone off. I think someone even tried to tell him it was the smog pump but he wouldn't listen. I think BAT has gone from an auction site to entertainment. But it is entertainment. :)
  11. During the recent auction for a blue Series 1 resulting in the reserve was not being met, I saw posts that were personal attacks and not germane to the subject. The auction thread was peppered with entries marked as, comment not constructive. It appears there is a common group of fanatical Z silverbacks on BaT with the predisposition to throw poo at each other when a mint example goes on the block ? Unprofessional conduct does nothing to help an auction and denigrates the comrade of the Datsun Z community.
  12. Because the comments can influence the results of an auction.
  13. It is sad to see how a couple of those "expert" posters with ulterior motives will dominate the dialog on a 240Z auction and denigrate a car for the sole intent of promoting their own vehicles. You are wise not to post on BaT, as your car would be in the cross hairs of the verbal elementary school food fights that is now so common each time a good 240Z is posted.
  14. I have grown tired of that myself. Plus they are all "experts". There is one guy that posts comments. Then compares the car for sale against the cars he has for sale. Presumably, he is trying to run interception and attract potential buyers to his cars at the expense of the auction. Still I cant help but visit every day over my lunch hour.
  15. I would think with 150 miles per qt you would be blowing big time blue smoke if its not leaking on the ground. Good compression could be too much oil getting past the oil control rings?
  16. Thanks, but I am good now. I have enough parts purchased from local friends to finish them the way I want. The fact we Canadians have to accept is that the cars we love cost about 40% more to restore here than in the US. We don’t earn 40% more than Americans to cover our costs and when all our parts come from overseas or the US, we pay that much more with exchange, shipping and brokerage.
