  1. IT'S ALIVE!!! Yes, she is up and running! Very nice to have the car running. The motor sounded very nice and smooth. There was a little popping out the exhaust, not sure what that is from, but still need to set the timing. It was getting late so I will do the adjustments in the next day or two . I took a video of it, but it is 18MB. I will have to figure out how to make a lower res video so I can get it on the site here. It started up fairly quickly. I used my vacuum pump to suck the fuel up to the fuel pump, then just turned it over from there. It started up in about 15 seconds which was great. Although as perfect as this may all sound when I post here, I did overlook two things. I forgot to put a hose clamp on the fuel return line just below the fuel pump. This dumped about a quarter cup of fuel on the floor. Also did not have the oil filter fully tightened. Dripped about a tablespoon of oil there. Surprisingly there were no water leaks. That is usually the culprit. Anyway I fixed those two items and shut it down for the night. I got a ton of stuff done today. I got the exhaust painted with high temp paint and installed. I will change the tip to the OEM slant style when it arrives. For now I threw on the chrome tip that came with the exhaust system. I got a lot of the interior done. I like the OEM jute that the car came with, so I just cleaned it off and re-installed it. And, the carpet is very nice so I installed that also. The only concern is the rear hatch carpet is faded. I will have to see if I can get that dyed. Otherwise, it is in very good condition. I installed the door weather stripping and threshold finishers. I tried to repair the plastic on the door finishers but that did not work very well. Fortunately I had a nice set so I put those on. Also got the choke cable installed along with the stick shift handle. I got the rear brake cable cleaned up and installed and the drive shaft as well, before the exhaust of course. Got the clutch cylinder filled and bled. Also got the battery cables in along with the hard to find battery cover. Anyway, pics are below.
  2. You're right about a dog not lasting long. The law now allows one to smash a car window to release a dog left in a hot car. You have to be careful about what you leave in the car. I think I've previously mentioned having left an aerosol can of flat tire fixer in the car and having it explode - the "shoe-goo" flat fixer was all over everything in the tool kit where the can was stored. Fortunately, it's only going to be in the 80s the rest of this week. A good way to end the year compared to those who live in Duluth, Minneapolis, or Erie. Dennis

  4. Hi everyone, thank you for all the input , I ran out of like buttons! Did you read the description made by the auction organizer ? These Zs were bought by a gentleman ( we know the man is an owner of a car tuning and racing company ) who bought three Vintage Zs at the same time including the first car of this program. The yellow car had a plan to be replaced by a RB 26 , but did not make it happen. ( I found English explanation is wrong, this car just had a plan , not replaced with a RB 26) Everyone here can tell much more about the car , and check the description made by the auction organizer.   5. Hi, I replaced a battery (left is a new one, right is an old one 13 years of service! ) and fitted a nice authentic decal. Thanks Jay, this YUASA logo is super cool just like an original battery. A metal early fan is taking a rest in a shelf . Kats
  6. Hi , I am not for sure but it looks like a same filter which we have on our L -series engine . What I was surprised is the filter paper is secured in a metal flame which is riveted. If you want replace it you have to buy a whole thing , i.e a filter paper in a metal flame. I may not be able to buy new filters as they are getting rare and rare, I will have to change the filter using a drill to brake rivets .And hand plying a filter paper which is brought from some other car.   9. I got my Mom a Samsung tablet for Christmas. Just a quick showing of it's high def screen I went straight to this post. She said "wow that's a beautiful engine". My Mom, a motorhead, didn't say anything about her new present from #1 son but Diseazed (now Craig's) motor.
  10. Kats, what kind of filter media is in those air boxes? It kind of looks like oiled gauze.
  11. Hi Kats, I actually found a pair the other day. https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/j464305461 I saved the images for reference so I can make my own at some point. But you are correct they could be made out of alloy sheet. I may ask you for measurements at some stage.
  12. Just because the coolant is in a Honda bottle does not mean they make it. My point is there is a lot of blue coolants available, not unique to Honda.
  13. I thought the JP models were right hand drive and no bumperettes to name a few differences. Are these Exports just in japan?

  15. I doubt Honda makes their own coolant...probably just rebranded Pentosin Pentafrost NF coolant which is blue. BMW also uses blue coolant.

  20. The Z looks Fantastic ! A side note, since you mentioned it: About the windshield wipers - - interesting story in Mr. Uemura’s Book about the development of the windshield wipers - needed to clear the windshield. They even looked at treating the windshield with a product that sounds like RainX.. seems the wipers originally experienced a lot “aerodynamic lift” at higher speeds, and wouldn’t clear the rain drops off the windshield. The finally used that wire frame on the blades as the best solution to reduce the aerodynamic lift.

  22. Hi Kats: My first 240Z - HLS30 01777 -purchased in March of 1970 - did not have the Clamp on the steering rack. It was Dealer Installed - as I recall - sometime around Nov./ Dec. of 1970. I had taken the Z back to the Dealer because the shocks were leaking again. They installed the Clamp at that time and pointed it out to me. Even before that time we knew the steering rack was too loosely mounted - you could feel it in the steering wheel. The steering rack had a lot of play (movement) in its original rubber mounts. You could feel this during hard driving - on an Auto-X course for example. At the time, the cure was to place a section of Lead tire weights - the type used to balance aluminum wheels - thin strips of lead with two sided stick-on adhesive - on top of the rubber rack isolators - and then clamp everything down firmly. This tightened up the steering response. This having already been done - I never noticed any difference with or without that Clamp installed. If I had to guess - the Clamp and Bumper was just a way to limit the amount of travel the Rack had in the soft rubber mounts. FWIW, Carl B.
