  1. Hi everyone - I'm the buyer of Jeff's car, and I am thrilled to own it. The pictures do not do justice to what Jeff has achieved with this car. When I'm not driving it, I just open the hood and study the engine compartment - it's pristine. I'm looking forward to the next steps with the car, but mainly just driving it and learning more about these wonderful cars.
  2. I think that vinyl roof needs stronger adhesive...
  3. Haha, I sure do have a lot. I didn't post it, but battery and alternator are both solid. Alright, thanks. I checked again (gonna need a new valve cover gasket with all this pulling off and putting back on, lol) and the notches line up just fine. Scratch that off the list.
  4. Siteunseen, Thank you... I will try that. Here is a couple of shots..
  5. Oh where for art though in Canada sir M3333hp? I have, as indicated a "few" miscellaneous bits of datsun hardware...
  6. You're on the same path that many of us have been on, trying to rationalize a solution, and trying to make what the other manufacturers say should work, work. But they often don't work. Often. So, just to plant a seed, so that it might grow as you're braking up to a light and hear the squeal starting again, on some sunny fall day in the future, I'll post one more time. Here is what always works - http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/24-5450 Remove the little tab and you can use it on either side. The tab is just a locater, for convenience.during installation. Also, note how the shim only covers about half of the caliper piston. So there's actually a small bending force across the pad during force application. Maybe that's a clue. Who knows.
  7. update: i tightened my thermostat bolts and haven't had a problem since. thanks for the help guys.
  8. Jerry, no offense intended because I have such respect for the Superformance GT40 but go to their website and look at their photo album. Is not that the car? Yea, he "found" the chassis in South Africa because that's where they are made! And they are damned nice replicas. Real GT40 chassis are pretty well documented. Whats his serial number? Ha ha. Also of special interest concerning Superformance is their recreation of Pete Brocks Daytona Cobra. The first time I met Pete, he was driving one.
  9. Haven't gotten a new log yet because my 2 year old decided to hide my SD card somewhere. So, had to order a new one. Should have it in a day or two.
  10. Hello Z dreams, something like in my car? The inner metal of the steering wheel is about 6,35 mm (1/4 inch!) thick. I took 6 pieces of mahogany on the front with a 1/4 inch groove in it and 6 pieces on the back (massiv). Made them with a hand milling machine. And the fingergroove with a powerfile.. It was about 30 hours of work haha.. This wheel is glued on with 2 comp. glue and between the wood waterproof wood glue.. I think the result for a electronics guy is very good.. I'm using it now for 10 years and i'm realy happy with it! (With my big hands and no power steering it's fantastic.) (It has 7 or 8 layers of lacquer .... About the gearknob, I've got one made on a wood lathe.. neede also a lot of coats of lacquer..
  11. Hmmm, After eating a bunch of Oreo's it would be the human version of a 3D printer. The possibilities are endless, or until you run out of Oreos........
  12. Think termite mounds. Oops, misread your post, you said spit.
  13. You guys were right, the inside of the seals were worn out on a few. I replaced them all and got everything back together, as well as a hot valve adjustment. In this neverending saga, now I've got yet another problem. The car backfires out of the exhaust if I blip the throttle from idle, and my plugs are solid black which indicates the car is running rich. It also smokes out of the exhaust still. I cleaned the bullet connectors, but that didn't change anything. I'm gonna finish replacing the connectors for everything before I go on another witch hunt, but I'm pretty bummed out right now.
  14. The noise is vibration and some how the shims mitigate the vibration. I don't totally understand it, some things I just accept at face value and move on. I am getting too old to sweat some of this...
  15. Whatever the frying sound was THAT ABSOLUTELY NEEDS TO BE FOUND! Check the connection on the back of your ammeter. Make sure it hasn't gotten damp. You mentioned some firewall rust so it is likely something behind the dash may have gotten wet. Pulling the dash is not difficult and a lot easier to work behind out of the car. I had a fire back in 2005 as a result of poor ammeter connections. I'm still putting the car back together. Completely fried the main harness down to the alternator. It started behind the ammeter. Good luck!
  16. While the fuse block is out, look for corrosion and heat damage at the wire connections. It's not uncommon to find melted plastic due to poor conductivity. Caig DeoxIT is a good product to use on old elec. connections.
  17. I would go as far as removing them one by one, test it, steel wool each end of every fuse and lightly crimp each prong holding both sides of every fuse block. I was having weird issues with my fuse block in my 71. VisuallY they looked great but were making poor contact.
  18. Oh your fuse block is on the passenger side. I bet you blew a fuse.
  19. Sounds like fusible links to me. Passenger interior?
  20. Sounds like you're getting just enough voltage to run the clock and almost actuate the relays and turn the starter motor. Check the battery cable ends, make sure they're clean, and the battery charge. 12 volts is a half-charged battery. 12.6 is about 90% charge. http://modernsurvivalblog.com/alternative-energy/battery-state-of-charge-chart/
  21. A correct installation requires the use of sealants. It is in the FSM. Many people who do not use sealant may garage their cars or may live in areas where there is not a lot of rain or snow. When in doubt follow the manufacturer's recommendations.
  22. The force is strong! Listened to SRV yesterday while painting my house, loud too. Good work music.
  23. I was sitting around thinking and I realized that i have never posted the story of how I acquired my beautiful 10th Anniversary edition 1980 280zx. It started when i was 15 years old, my dad and I was on the desktop searching craigslist for an affordable Jeep Wrangler. (At the time I thought I wanted one.) As we were scrolling through the listings there happened to be a candy apple red 1977 280z. It was love at first sight. I immediately dialed the number listed and scheduled a meeting with the owner at the local QT. That night I got down on my knees and prayed "God please please please let me have a Z car." The next day after school my dad and I met the owner and test drove the car. Needless to say it was a complete peace of junk. The motor rattled, sounded horrible, and the underside of the car was orangish brown with rust. After coming home disappointed I prayed again, this time thanking God for the Z car I knew he was going to give me. The very next Sunday at church my dad found out that one of his friends had a brother that owns Z cars. I got the mans number and called, asked if i could come over and see them, he agreed and I was once again filled with hope. My dad and I went and saw his small collection, and of course I had to ask if he would sell me any of them and to my surprise he said yes! I cant tell you how much I paid but what I can tell you is that It was only a deal that only God himself could of arranged. I bought three yes three 280ZX's! Two of which ran (one being my car) and 3rd car being a parts car. (it had been totaled.) Every time I look at my car it reminds me of how awesome God is and how he really does answer prayers.
