TheErictag Posted March 15, 2017 Share #1 Posted March 15, 2017 Ok so I've got a hole i guess on the drivers side of the block that a short metal pipe keeps coming out of .. there's oil now all over that side of the engine bay .The metal pipe has hose on it connecting it to the breather on top of the valve cover and it tees off to somewhere else also.. My questions are this .. what's the best way to keep that metal pipe from blowing out of the block and what is that thing called and what's it for? siteunseen Posted March 15, 2017 Share #2 Posted March 15, 2017 (edited) It's the PCV system. I've seen pictures where people held the pipe in with JB Weld. It has a ridge around it that should be up against the block, beat it in with a rubber hammer. Here's some info in this thread. If it keeps blowing out your valve is probably bad, not allowing air to pass through. Edited March 15, 2017 by siteunseen

siteunseen Posted March 15, 2017 Share #5 Posted March 15, 2017 I don't think I've seen one connected to the valve cover? Always the intake or balance tube. A picture would nice.
rcb280z Posted March 16, 2017 Share #6 Posted March 16, 2017 I've never seen one connected to valve cover either but like site said, post a pic. Will help with diagnosis.

Chickenman Posted March 16, 2017 Share #9 Posted March 16, 2017 (edited) You may be able to take the breather tube to a Muffler shop and have them expand the tube slightly with a Tapered pipe expander. Problem is finding one small enough. Edited March 16, 2017 by Chickenman

conedodger Posted March 16, 2017 Share #11 Posted March 16, 2017 Since it vents crankcase pressure, I'd fix it before I'd drive it plugged like that. You could blow out front or back seals. You're lucky that is what keeps blowing off.

Somebody found the mid-point between a functioning PCV system and no PCV system. You're going to have to do better than somewhere else to do well with these cars.
