What is this?
That item is called the "Flow Guide Valve". It is indeed a part of the emissions system (but on a 72 there is no charcoal canister). What it does is to route fumes from the gas tank to one of two different locations depending on whether the engine is running or not. If the engine is running, it will route the fumes to thebase of the air cleaner assembley so that they can be burned with the intake air that gets sucked into the engine. If the engine is not operating, the fumes are routed to the brather pipe on the side of the engine block which puts the fumes into the crankcase wear they remain until the engine is started, at which time they are drawn into the balance tube/intake manifold via the PCV valve and are then burned. Ah, the joys of aftermarket crap that doesn't allow for emission equipment that doesn't take away HP from your engine, but does help the atmosphere that we breathe. Give my regards to K&N.

What should i replace while the engine is out?
ChrisA: Sounds right to me. I wasn't aware of the location of the FPR on the L28 cause I've never had one.

I don't think that you can use a 280Z fuel pump. reason? They operate at a vastly higher pressure (due to the fuel injection). If you cannot find a 240Z electric fuel pump, I'd get an aftermarket electric fuel pump that is designed for use on carbureted engines. You'll need to find a way to mount it, but it shouldn't be too difficult to fabricate a bracket (you may even be able to buy one). Check Summit or Jeg's on line.

Electric fuel pump on 240Z's (73 only) mounted at the rear of the car, near the gas tank. Passenger side, just in front of the tank. I don't know about a presure reg. on a L28, but if there is one, I doubt it would be "on the engine". For a carb set-up you don't want more than about 3 to 5 psi fuel pressure,

Missing threads
It seems as there is a limitation of 500 "entries" for a given search. When I search using my User Name, selecting to "show results as posts" ( or "threads"), posts "from any date", and "at least zero replies"........the results are limited to 500 entries. Since I have 4K posts, there should be more than 500 "posts" shown. Even though I have partisipated in new threads over the past few days, the results still show a maximum of 500 entries (post, or threads), so it seems to me that there is a limitation on the amount of entries returned in a given search. PS: Thanks Marc!

Gas Tank
New tanks are not available. Best bet is finding one in a good salvage yard, and having it cleaned and sealed before installation or sending your tank to Moyer's or elsewhere to be rebuilt. Cost = ($300 to 800) Moyer's http://www.gas-tank.com/ Gas Tank Renu http://www.gastankrenu.com/

This Z was stored in a chicken coop since 1987
To each, his own opinion, but Sorry Enrique........... I strongly disagree. That he was "dared" and did post here has only to do with some clown wanting to see us react to something that is obviously not what we care about (chopping up a pristine Z) for his/their own enjoyment of our predictable reactions and ls1240Z accepting the dare for his/their amusement. I've never seen anyone here send a person to HybridZ (or anywhere else) just to watch a flame war develop. When someone is refered to another site by our club, it is done to assist that person with a better resource for their needs. Clearly, that was not the purpose of the "dare" or the acceptance of it. As for fanatical, have you ever seen how newbies are treated at HybridZ when they ask a question that is deemed unworthy of an answer? Many, many times they are treated like $hit. IMO, far worse than anyone gets treated here. He got what he expected/wanted and I don't feel any apology is necessary.

Never heard of the company or eBay seller. I'd contact eBay. Stop payment if possible.

Congratulations, Sean! If you start building a Z for him now, it will be ready to go when he is ready to drive it.

79 ZX MC & Booster on 72 240Z
I believe that it does. I've never heard of someone having to swap boosters with the m/c. Can anyone confirm this from personal experience for Miles?

MidwestZ??
These auctions (really "Buy-It-Nows") were placed today. I had checked eBay last night and nothing was up for auction. I Went to their eBay "store" page, and no parts were listed, the notation was that "all items had been sold". I have sent an email to the address listed in the auctions.

No reason to knock the price down to $500, since he's already got a $1000.00 bid

What do you care about the motor? Pull it and sell/give it away, you've got the motor that you want waiting to pop into it. With all of the "chop, cut, and rebuild" you have planned. whats a little bodywork? From the pic, it looks like a fender replacement would fix it. An hour's drive to inspect it personally would seem to be worth the effort to someone who is really interested in finding a car. You drove that far to find this one in Petaluma. Don't expect to get $7K for a car that hasn't run in 14 1/2 years ("will run after a change of fluids", how do you know? it could have stuck valves, too, or worse) , has had its rear brakes destroyed, interior stripped and then "mostly" put back. All of this impacts the value. As for the rudeness you have encountered, maybe it has something to do with the dare that you accepted when you showed up here. The attitude you showed in your first post has colored the opinion some people have of you. You had the balls to post a link to the HybridZ "Dare" thread, so most of us know the agenda you had when you showed up here. Then, when you got called on the "dare", you deleted the link, but we aren't stupid, the link was saved and has been passed around to those who are interested.

I think you'll also have to drill new holes in the firewall to mount it.

GregP received his parts after contacting PayPal in regards to the transaction he had paid for via PayPal. If you paid via PayPal, contact them. If you paid via Visa or Mastercard, contact them.

The auction has now been altered to indicate (via a question asked by a potential bidder) that the car has a 2.8L L6. No idication as to whether it was from a 280Z or ZX

1. Have you looked at this one? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2486140779 2. Just to make it clear to all, many folks on HybridZ also suggested that you sell this car and build a different one. It's not like we are the only ones who thought you were making a mistake in rushing to kill this car. 3. Why are you in such a hurry to find an excuse to kill this car?

Front cover finish
Does the paint on your engine block burn off? NO! There are areosol products ( I hesitate to call them paint) that are designed for mid range high temperatures. It doesn't have to handle 1400 degrees F like an exhaust manifold coating. Products like this are sold at auto supply and hardware stores all over the USA. I suspect that similar products can be found in OZ. http://www.eastwoodco.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=261&itemType=PRODUCT&RS=1&keyword=clear
