Its really amazing how hot them buggers get, especially without lots of air moving.... Getting the brakeshoe the same shape of drum is important to have as much contact between shoe and drum as possible. Carbotech will shape to please. I use em front and back. Before I had enough air in the correct areas on rotor/caliper, cranking more pressure to the drums helped put off complete loss of brakes for a lap or two..... BTW if your fingers sizzle when you hold your nuts,"lug nuts" try not to throw em into the next paddock area!! david
  2. These are early 260z..... David
  3. Hi ZSaint, I to am in process of rebuilding a lack luster SCCA ITS engine with 8mm rod bolts...So I gave ARP a call..info from ARP website. I called Pete at ARP and he told me that 30 pounds with the moly lube is the recommended torque value. Good Luck with the build up Hope you got a good deal on those rods!!! :classic: david
  4. HI, Would have passed under radar being listed as 240zx hubcaps, but looks like seller was smart to bring to our attention..currently at $1.25? david
  5. I agree He sounded like he would have accepted a cash deal on the spot. Love to hear that cars story...and some Pics. david
  6. that is correct assumption Chris, never found any eyes in Miami thou. david
  7. I followed it til yesterday. The lister invited interested parties to inspect on Sunday evening..826 miles prevented my look see. Good bet he took a offer too good to refuse. I figured one of the Floridian z guys picked it up.... OK, lets hear it, was it as good as it looked? Pictures please. david
  8. Looking forward to "watching" the bidding on this auction this morning, and it "went missing". What lucky dog made off with the car? Someone on this board I hope has purchased? Car looked good, but without seller feedback or information, was risky.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4523480325&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT david

I agree Carl, I wrote my response in a rush last night, or early morning...vented hats more accurate. I've heard that the vents do help somewhat with cooling, but have resisted so far to trying em out on the track under race conditions.... As far as why the switch was made, not sure. I've seen these rotors on 5 different under Vin#5000 240Zs...must be pretty good stuff to last the 100,000 plus miles my cars have. Of course, driving conditions would change life of rotor.... Be interested in who still has these on car. david

Also ask your guy for the hood bumpers "look like chair leg cushions", hood latch, voltage regulator, gas tank, heater control panel, rear interior tailight panel, rotors "if original vented ones"..All < Vin #2000 or so. david
  12. Yoogeneer says [ i'm looking for a decent used dash for a '71 240z, couple cracks are fine just no earthquake sizes.] The dashes I've pulled that had small cracks, would always somehow crack worse while out of car, or during removal process..... The 73 dash wiring connectors under glove box are much different if i remember correctly. Swapping out all the gauges/assemblies, along with dash wiring connectors would work...I'm 95% sure... david
  13. Hi Zhead240.. I understand that the pull switch in the dash for flashers are 73 models... I know... picky nick picker... but just throws up a little flag in my head concerning it being removed from a 72 as advertised....I looked closely at previous listing, but got nervous over listing as 72. Does look like a good dash..... I'm still looking for a great early dash myself. david

I'll be in the 40 crowd in a couple of weeks. Time has started to accelerate as I was warned of years back, but still making time to spend with the Zs.... david
  15. I found doors to be 8 pounds each heavier 72 -73.....and of course front bumper mounts are close to 25 pounds. David
  16. Good to see this sell at such a great price. david
  17. Alex,Must have lowered price....But now the car has a deposit holding it til Jan 22nd...from a NJ ? buyer. Anybody here? david
  18. HI Nate, I've used DAS "dependable auto shippers" twice in the last year for Zs shipped California to NC...I would recomend if still looking. Serious money to be saved if you and/or seller happen to be close to one of their "terminals"... My 2 cents, David
  19. wonder what it will go for? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...6&category=6187 I have read several of the previous threads concerning Vintage Zs, and still have questions about this most recent ebay auction stated "71" w/VIN # 4090....as well as looking at several parts in interior. I have VIN 5460 to compare to,and several parts, Gauges, steering wheel, dash. are not correct. Was this type of part substitution common for these beautiful restorations? respectfully, David

Still a few in the pick-n-pulls.. david
  21. HI Jason, I've heard many say that under dash heater hoses are tough, but I spent 4 hours  time a couple of years back replacing what you are contemplating. The old stiff one is tough to get out, even after all the screws are removed, the lip of tube is a beach to bend, while pushing down. I'd have to believe you have to be double jointed to a degree to replace with tank in place. david
  22. :classic: Before discarding the thoughts of seriously running the existing engine, why not run a compression test? Get a feel for what you have now. Get the SU video from Ztherapy, study, and then clean/adjust the carbs to function properly, relace the dizzy with a 79-80 280zx part, some headers,"mainly for noise on a stock engine" , get the timing set right, check for timing chain "slop"..most likely due a new one, check hard for vacumn leaks on manifold, carb shafts, brake booster lines....all these items can be used on your 280 transplant if you decide to move in that direction. 175 crank HP is easily attainable...200 possible with semi stock engine, with right setup, and proper tuning But for the same money spent on the larger blocks "280" + you will always have a more torque and HP. david
  23. Hi, Interest here in western North Carolina...Line starts here... :classic: Email me at: Volgolf@aol.com I have JDM fender mirrors, grill... clock would be great addition. David Spillman
  24. HI Jared, If considering keeping your car original.."loaded word" I know you can make 175-200hp with stock head/valves & cam with .o40 overbore, 9.5 compression. That said, fitting 280 valves in the stock head little larger cam, with standard bore and good quaility rings, should net you similar results. I like being able to turn 7400 if need be with my 240 engine. David
  25. I would be interested in when the plastic clips were changed to metal.... I believe it changed before VIN # 5000.. I have 5634...it has metal clips...Would any 3600-5600 VINs care to speak up? david
