  1. @jeffg78 beat me to it…..
  2. Hey John did you try fitting the plate without the disc? Wonder if it’s a dowel issue.
  3. And don’t forget I believe the Captain still has his flip phone!!
  4. Awesome Cliff!! CONGRATS!!
  5. Just trying to show alternative’s friend
  6. I agree on the 24 series as being original. Unfortunately there aren’t many suppliers that go into the higher amperage ratings. Recently I found the 34 series AGM battery from Bosch. 770 CCA with a 4 year warranty Non prorated replacement. Just installed mine and it’s a bit shorter than the 24 series but with the spacer provided it fits fine. $238 Probably not for the purist Z owner but is has the cranking power and residual capacity.
  7. The outside diameter of the 280z bushing sleeve is 35mm
  8. I bought the “Energy” bushings from ZCD for the 280Z. All I can tell you is they don’t fit without the sleeves intact. Sounds like the 240 has a smaller diameter sleeve. I have measurements I can pass on if needed.
  9. Is this a 240 or 280z? Not sure if the diameter is different. Also what brand bushing are you using?
  10. Group34
  11. Flops around without the sleeve.
  12. If you go with Poly, Do not remove the bushing sleeve. They are designed to fit in the inner portion where it’s deteriorating. Ask me how I know!!!
  13. @Zed Headjust looked back at post #15. Could it be possible that this was an automatic at one time? Spacer never removed? Secondly the give away would be the neutral safety switch being jumpered at the harness where the reverse light harness is located. Fresh in my mind because of the conversion I’m doing. Totally different harness. Thoughts? Another thought, Would the bolts not be barely long enough to reach the crank? I realize this is a stretch….
  14. Your ring gear/flywheel/starter must have an issue. Sounds like you’ve made an adjustment on the drive gear depth but certainly not a permanent fix. Are you trying to buy time or is the fix you were looking for? Keep in mind if that ring gear comes loose for some crazy reason it will be catastrophic. Just my 2 cents.
  15. Had the same issue on the 78 280. Some one suggested loosening or removing the rear sway bar. Once that was out of the way I had access. Another trick is once you have the box end wrench on the nut spin the shaft by turning the rear tire. This will wedge the wrench against the frame and break the nut loose.
  16. I actually just purchased a rebuilt Hitachi starter off of amazon. Was a little skeptical whether it was truly a genuine rebuild or a Chinese knock off. It had the proper stamping on the casing. Looks like they just reduced the price by 20 percent as well https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B000CAV0X4?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details
  17. The gear reduction starters don’t specify automatic or manual transmission. Up to 1978 they specified trans type. I’m wondering if the automatic starter might have a shorter bendix throw to the flex plate which might explain it barely reaching the flywheel. Unlikely since you said it was working previously but Just a thought. Recently did the a/t to manual conversion and the difference is a spacer on the crankshaft to the flex plate. Hopefully others will chime in. I’m sure you’ve bench tested the starter under power correct?
  18. Did not see any listings for the complete front fender assemblies. I’m aware of the patch panels themselves. Trying to balance the cost of body shop labor versus a complete replacement fender.
  19. Thanks, I’ll check them out. Not on FB but my wife can look it up😂
  20. @EuroDatAre you familiar with this supplier in Europe?
  21. What scares me is they only accept cash or a bank wire.
  22. @Zed HeadAre you familiar with this company? I’m in dire need of both front fender. Price with shipping is right at $1200.
  23. @adivin I recently ran into the same issue you are having. One solution is to send your existing bushings to a company in Australia that will refurbish the rubber and send them back. Here is the information I received from @EuroDat. I have not sent mine out. I was able to find another used cross member. I may go ahead and send my originals out just to have a spare set for the future. The shipping pricing is the unknown variable at this point. In australia they have a bushing service. A$ 90 is about US$65. And then you have shipping to Aust and back to the US. https://www.oldera.com.au/datsun-260z-gear-box-mount-bushes-re-rubbering-service/ Glouster is in the Hunter valley in NSW. The guys father used to make a lot of land drover rubber parts. Probably why he ha a lot of Austin and Morris parts. @eurodat Thanks again for the vital information you continue to provide to fellow Z enthusiasts.
  24. Pics would be helpful to identify the exact part your referring to. check CarPartsManual.com
  25. The spline size won’t change. The diameter of the cog is directly proportional to the spin rate. Someone please chime in If I’m off base here.
