Is it possible to lubricate a steering rack?
Not to argue with my good friend Cliff @siteunseen but it seems unlikely that Nissan would have installed a 3/4" high plastic grease reservoir in the same location as the rubber bushing mount. If so, there would have been an existing hole for the threaded throat of the fitting. The carparts manual diagram referenced by @Zed Head shows it to be on the passenger side for all models of S30. Note on my pic there is actually a reinforcing plate on the tube to provide enough metal for threads. I've no theory or explanation as to why our OP has no provision for the part other than some possibility that the rack might not be original to the car.

The rack orignally came with a small plastic grease reservoir on the top right side between the mounting bushing and the tie rod covering. Most have broken off by now leaving the neck of the reservoir stuck in the rack tube. Extract the plastic remnant and install a Zerk fitting to grease the rack.

Grill bolt finish
The bolt head and the nut will be the same finish as the grill, the shaft is concealed so it does not matter.

Caliper date codes
I just checked back into my project pics, have a shot of one backside and it is 7 0 X. No surprise to me as front and rear casting runs at a factory could have different schedules.

Caliper date codes
Works for me, my calipers are coded 9 0 2.

1971 HLS30-14938 "Lily" build
I was restoring a bunch of inspection lights and all needed new lens. I contacted 240Zrubberparts to see if I could get a quantity discount. He asked if I wanted "crystal clear" lens and without thinking I said yes instead of specifying opaque. So... I have a bunch of lights that do not look like OE and I occasionally gift them to friends.

SpareTire
FWIW, I fitted a 185/70 to my OE steel spare wheel and it is an exact fit in the spare tire well, the spare tire cover fits nicely into it's original position. As an aside, for anyone running aftermarket wheels there is a possibility that that the lug nuts may not be a good fit against a OE steel wheel so place a bag with a set of OE lug nuts in with the spare tire.

Turn Signal Nasty!
Ever wonder why your turn signals act a bit wonky or even stop working??? Here are the contacts for the '72 switch I recently worked on. That's a nasty buildup of carbon to block the flow of power. The second pic is the same contacts after working them over with a small file (a points file to be specific 😉).

Any chance they were from a non-US spec car, i.e. Canada? The 4650 and 4651 might reflect the same changes as 4600 and 4601. Just a WAG!

Charles, I just pulled out my hardcopy of the parts fische that I bought in 1999. There is no reference to either of these P/N's for the '69-73 cars. For manual transmissions thru 12/70 it was E4600 and E4601; thru 08/71 it was E8300; thru 12/71 it was E8800; thru 06/72 it was E8802; thru 09/72 it was N3300; for the remaining '73's it was N3325 for "A" (?) and N3326 for "B" (?).. Similar changes for cars with the auto transmission. Jim

Online Parts Catalog Changes
Someone has recently chaged the online parts catalog and not necessarily in a good way. Back in 1999 I purchased a hard copy of the factory parts catalog that someone had made from the Nissan fiches for the 1970-73 240Z's. This was long before we had these resources available online. Here is my scan of page 25-1 covering the combo switches and the online catalog had the same P/N's and effective dates until recently: The switch for the 1972 car was P/N 25160-E8800, effective dates 09/71 - 06/72. It's my understanding that the 1973 model introduced the 3-speed (intermittant) wiper control, P/N 25160-N3300, dates 07/72 - 07/73 This is what the online catalog looks like today and is incorrect in that it has the same P/N light switch for 1972 and 1973 models:

Charles, When I tore down my car there was no sealant on or under the rubber hinge boots, just the thin metal plate holding the boot in shape under the hinge. Jim
