  1. Sounds electrical, I would have suggested the capacitor, but you have an electronic dizzy. Highly doubt it would be the leads, how long is the spark, check if it is weak. That will give you a better indication of where to start looking next.
  2. Gav, There is a thread on 3x SU's, even though it sounds like a good idea, the results appear inconclusive. This appears surprising as I had thought increasing the volumetric capacity would have corresponding increase in get up and go!
  3. Me thinks the name of the photo should apply to the cam! Head may be OK
  4. I don't think to many people are aware of these rules, even plod. It was highlighted in a recent RACV article [thats an Service Auto club for those O/s] Several points were raised on about tyres and roadworthy vehicles. This was one, one other was spare tyres. It appears that if a car is presented for a roadworthy without a spare, then the car is considered roadworthy from a tyre point. Now get this, if a vehicle is presented with a spare that has no legal tread or is carrying one of those newer space saving spares, then the vehicle is deemed as being un-roadworthy. These technical points are relativly unknown by all but the nit pickers! I believe that the Government is looking into the space saving spares as they are becoming more prevelant these days and technicaly render the vehicle un-roadworthy.
  5. You got me on that one, I'm running 225 on the rear, 215 on the front [white 260], same width rims and I know if a "plod" who knows the RT Rules wanted to give me a canary then I would need to change them so they all all the same. It's raining here today, with 225 on the rear you need to be so careful in accelerating out of corners! The rally car is 195 all around and handles great in all conditions, so when the time comes it will be back to 195's on the 260.
  6. Alfa, In Victoria it is illegal [unroadworthy] to have different sizes front ot back [even though many including myself do it, but be prepared to have it roadworthied with stock rims!]. If I was going down this road again I would go for 15" rims and no wider than 215.
  7. & mine plus the others for future. HS 30 - 103305 L24 083870 8/1973 GRS 30 -016122 L26 168542 1977 GRS 30-10833 L26??????? 1973
  8. Well, I didn't want to mention it, but since you sold the zed.........
  9. If there you're moulds, then it looks like it's their problem. Mis-appropriation is a serious offence. Sounds like you may need legal advice. To my knowledge there are 3 "zed shops" in Melbourne. Z Spares Zed Xtras Capri Components I can look up the #'s later in the day if you like.
  10. You heard right, a hand throttle. It was the 240z version of cruise control! It only appeared in the early models, such as your's. Probably of no use in NZ, but no-doubtably popular on the freeways in Japan and the US. By the way, congratualtions on a fine pickup.
  11. It's the hand throttle!
  12. Hi Gav/Carl, Just to clear up a mis-conception. 004 was on display for sale at Zed Spares [Hi Lindsey & Trent ]! It was at that time I believe, still in possession [owned] by/of the Corbett family, Harry's son Trent had custody of 004. It was officially on the market and I believe it was sold back to Japan, don't however quote me on this as it's un-substantiated. I will try to get over to see Lindsey soon [get the stubbies in the fridge if you're reading this, LD] and I'll post more info for you.
  13. Without looking at the manual. I have no idea. This shows the importance of having the FSM at your fingertips when undertaking operations such as this. From memory [and I wouldn't trust it], I thought the cam sprocket lined up on #3. Now I'll sit back and wait for the corrections!
  14. Mr C, It's making your zed & mine looking better everyday. It's pleasing to see that the TRUE value of our cars is being seen!
  15. And a double cut for the doors!
  16. So these early cages would have been homoligated, right?
  17. I think this is only half the story. How did the factory cage mount in the dash area, or was this option a 1/2 cage? MN
  18. I know it's external, also has a couple of fuses attached. From memory it's located , I can't remember without going out to the car, perhaps someone else can step in.
  19. Sounds like the shunt may have gone open circuit.
  20. Oh, I forgot to add: Remnants of 68 zed found by Redex Round Australia crews in Aussie outback.
  21. Wow again, Georlz de-bunked!. Steering Wheel is wood! The only other good news I would like to hear is about the metal G-Nose! Keep it coming guys. MN PS. Don't worry about offending anyone with differing views, everyone is probably wrong anyway!
  22. Well, you could knock me over with a feather duster! Just as I wrote to Alfa about "rubbery " figures, the truth is about to emerge. Excellent work Kats, we can only hope that more will be revealed.
  23. Alfa, Those Aussie figures are pretty "rubbery That 2+2 I picked up was a 73 production model, I'll concede it most probably was sold in 74, but the plates identify it as a 73 production. Also where are the local market [Japan] numbers, in others, I think not? Sadly we may never know the true figures and an educated guess is the best one can hope for. [unless Alan has access to more reliable figures]?
  24. Simple, Get them to replace it for $5k. You won't see them write out the check fast enough. Seriously, it's a game of bluff. Don't accept there offer and ask them to re-instate the car.
  25. Reminds me of the Irish man sent to blow up a bus by the IRA. Burnt his lips on the exhaust pipe. ROFL Are the withdrawals starting already? MN
