  1. Can't let that go away without a reply.... 280zx compared to a 260 2+2, you're joking aren't you, tell me you are, please! There is no comparision except that they have a seat in the rear ........
  2. If you want to go the send out way, then you may as well get a set of round tops. On the other hand a re-build kit is available for flat tops, it's cost is considerably less than $900US and regardless of what others say, flat tops if they have been re-built as per manufactures instructions [ie follow the book correctly], will perform better than round tops! At the end of the day the choice is yours. Good luck.
  3. Cost me roughly $400, that included new valves, guides, seats & machining. Possibly less if your head is in good shape. But why do you want to run un-leaded? Personally, I'll swear by Shell LRP, and if I really want a blast then I'll top up with Optimax. HIH
  4. Hi guy's Time to shake up the Rally Forum and get rid of some cob webs. It's been a while since we had a rally discussion, so I'll fire it up. Although Australia based, Victoria particularly, I thought I would give this event a plug, [mainly because I'm directing it, so anything is fair game!] and who knows maybe I might see some other zeds cruising around in this. The 2003 Shortest Day Navigational Trial is combined with the in-augeral Historic Rally Association All Bitumen Tour. It is being held on Sunday 29th June and entries are now being accepted for either the event or tour. The Event is based on a 200km Navigational Trial, comprising some of the better bitumen and gravel roads West of Melbourne. Starting at 10am, crews will be dispatched at 1 minute intervals with pre-plotted instructions. The Trial is expected to take most crews 5 hours to complete. The Tour is designed as an introductory navigational event with all crews given pre-plotted and complete idiot proof instructions [i may regret writing this as experiance dictates that nothing that is given to a rally crew is idiot proof] :stupid: . The Tour is all Bitumen with some great stretches and hill climbing over windy roads. This would be an ideal tour for any zed heads in Victoria who just want to get out and have a drive. Entry to the Trial is restricted to CAMS 2NS Licence or higher, while the Tour is restricted to any member of a CAMS Affiliated Car Club. Entry fee being $50AUD for either the Tour or the Event. If there are any Vic's out there that would like to run contact me ASAP as the fields are limited. [The Shortest Day 2001 sold out]. Mike

I wonder if it has a metal nose?
  8. When you say you had the fuel system checked, what was checked? Pump, filter etc??????? Need you to be more specific, does your 240 have an electric pump or is it manual, all information you can provide the list members with will assist in getting a quick concise answer. Mike
  9. Didn't you sell your car Alan? I'm sure that would be the only way you would allow your old avatar being used?

The REAL reason people knock flat tops is that they don't understand them. When overhauled correctly, with the correct kit they will perform BETTER that round tops. I'm running both types in different cars and the flats are definately better than round, but only after a total strip down and re-build. Now for the bad news.... I would seriously doubt that they would work in your situation as the only way to adjust the mixture is by altering the float level. This is the biggest plus for round tops and the only solution as a SU type carb possible for you as I see it! Why not play around with cams, possibly a rally spec cam would solve your low end power problem?
  11. Those brackets coming off the front of the bumper are interesting. Are they for a light pod or Roo bar?
  12. Well, is this special toooooo. Guessing as it's LHD, then thats reading up to 200+mph! Go Zed Go!!!!!
  13. I have a similar wheel [smaller diameter than the standard Z wheel], it doesn't have the leather cover now, just a hard foam molding. Any ideas what it is?
  14. Sure, why not. If it doesn't work then buy some ATF. Can't hurt a thing, only performance and ego's! FWIW, I think tranny oil is heavier weight?
  15. Long live 2+2's! Only a metal nose 2+2 could be better.

Rob, all you need to do to make them compatible is to turn them 180 degrees.
  17. I think it might be like a MX5?
  18. Don't suppose there was a G-Nose version of this factory V8?
  19. Had same problem in 2 cars, one was a dirty tank [240], the other was capacitor in distributor [260]......take your pick!
  20. Interesting, I've acquired a slippery out of a corolla, anyone have any ideas if it will fit?
  21. 260's will fit, but you may have to change both sides. I think the same would apply for 280's?
  22. Vic roads has me as a 1973 Datsun Coupe, Tare 1000 Somewhere, somehow they have upped the weight?
  23. Alan, without actual physical evidence, then no-one can say that it existed. However, I feel that there must be sufficient doubt at this stage to completely rule out the story. The statement that was made about not buying it because it wasn't complete indicates that there was something made in metal which the one armed man believes to be a g-nose. It must have been an ad or something he saw or read that made him remember, after all we all have that repository of useless knowledge tucked away waiting for the right moment. If it was, then knowing him it will still exist, somewhere in his archives. It up to him to establish the validity of this statement and I will remain on the case. In the mean time let's both keep an open mind as it's not beyond the realms of possibility. In one way I can't see why the G-nose couldn't pressed out, most all other body parts are, and if complex curves are needed then the assembly is made in pieces and assembled. A good case for this would be the 2+2 that I would like to replicate. If this was the prototype for what was to be the 2+2 then they would have needed to press the nose out to manufacture sufficient numbers, after all the bonnet is complex enough and it was pressed. Anyway, enough of this grasping at straws so to speak, lets keep that open mind and await further developements. Mike
  24. Alfa, If you ask a question then you can expect an answer, what neither Alan or myself have is a crystal ball [workable, of course]. I'm the one who asked Alan if what I heard was true [2 G-nose varients] and Alan supplied the reply in a PM, if it's so upsetting to others then why not simply come out and ask what the answer is, instead of flaming Alan. Now, I going to take an aspirin and go back to work. Ha, 3 g-nose types......
  25. Bit hard on Alan, aren't you Gav, Unless I've missed something as well no one apart from myself asked about different g-nose versions, and even then I didn't specifically aske the question as I wasn't aware that there where different versions. Simply put, I was offered a garage full of datsun bits and a g-nose was amoungst it. Knowing the age of the owner and his rally history it was within the realms of possibility that some parts may have been "works" bits and asked Alan for advice. I'm feeling sorry to Alan for being public on this, maybe in future we shouldn't discuss interesting "bits"of history, just PM between ourselves! I really don't see what your problem is? There isn't any secret agenda about penile extensions, just general discussions about some interesting possibilities. Mike
