  1. Never heard of a zed with just lap belts? Can't imagine that your car came from the factory with these. A PO must have switched them out. I agree that they are in-adequate.
  2. Have you rotated the rims?
  3. I Think I'll pass it over to the resident Aussie Historian, 1 Bravo 6.... PS to 1 Bravo 6, I have a close friend who has just purchased a property somewhere around Rockhampton. Now how he expects to move his collection of 20 odd zeds up there is mind boggling, maybe a fire sale down here for us lucky folk! Our loss, your gain.
  4. Not only the Kiwi's, but the Poms as well. As to how it started, I guess it's a combination of the ANZAC spirit and the common ties both countries have to England? FWIW, the Australian Constitution has a provision for New Zealand to become a State within the Commonwealth!
  5. MY 2 bob's worth! [Aussie Slang]. That compression is frighteningly high. I can only speculate that may be the source of all your problems. With such high compression I would think then you would need to run 130 octane [AVGAS]. Can't help you with any thoughts on the Holley's and can understand your fustration. You wouldn't still have the SU's kicking around? Just a thought as you would be eliminating a possible trouble source [Holleys], get the engine running and then work out why the carbs are giving you such a hard time, who knows you might just be happy with SU's? MOM
  6. On Aussie 260Z + the solenoids control the air conditioning [if fitted] and heater. They operate the air control doors and need to be operational if ANY heating or cooling is required.
  7. I had a vibration that came in about 80km [45mph]. Had us all perplexed for a few months. It turned out that one of the rims had gone off centre, ie the holes had worn bigger. Solved the problem with a brand new set of rims and matching tyres.
  8. Ben, From 2003 CAMS MAnual Gearbox casing, gear selector mechanism and the number of forward ratios MUST be original. Internal componants are free. Replacing any of those components with an equivilant as close to original is not an option. [in reality it would need a protest and a strip down to find weather it is eligible or not. In HRC & PRC Cat 1,2& 3 within the HRA there is a Gentlemans agreement about eligibility. As most of us are 50+ and just want to go out for the fun of it [That's why we shun HRC in VRC, love those abbreviations] we don't give a rat's about minor issues, although we are all mindful of protests that have occured in the past, none where ever brought about by a competing crew. HIH. Mike of the Mire!
  9. Alan, It all comes down to whether you want to be HRC [Historic Rally] or PRC [Production Rally Car] or now to completely confuse you Historic Racing is different again. Thats why you can rally a zed with triple's, Hollinger Gearbox etc etc and be legal [PRC] on the other hand you could well expect a protest at a Historic Race meeting given the same car.
  10. Any idea who is actually engineering these?
  11. Hi Alan, Still jet lagged I see.... There was a ex works box that sold here recently. I suspect this gear is needed for it? Pricey, yes which reminds me that I still have to investigate those 3 boxes that I inherited. Where the option boxes a flange fitting or sleeve?
  12. One of our fellow rallyists is searching for a 1st Gear for an option 1 Gearbox. Willing to either buy outright or swap for one from an option 2. I don't have the book with me at present, however I thought all 1st gear ratios where the same in these boxes, with the 2, 3,and 4 beigh the variables? Can someone set me straight on this before I leave for home tonight? MOM
  13. My God, '65 and the 6 oçlock swill...... Oh yes it's quite true at that time era anyway. The swill was the reason for it but I believe it has been shortened and no longer holds the title?
  14. Logical when you explain it as such. However, wasn't the original concept to burn or re-route any emmision buildup back through the intake? Is there a design that allows you to use the larger filters instead of the OEM aircleaner AND allows crankcase emmisions to be introduced back into the carburation system as originally designed?
  15. But what does it actually do?
  16. That dreaded clunk is definately one of the joints on one of the half shafts. It may not be apparent with the wheels on the ground, however most members on this list would be suprised if it was anything else. [possible, but not probable]. Jack up the rear [both wheels] and double check, it should be quite apparent from where the clunk comes from. I think the "leaded" grease you mention is graphite grease.
  17. This may only make sense to us Aussie's, although it may serve as an introduction to potental visitors! WE, the people of a free nation of blokes, sheilas and the occasional wanker. We come from many lands (although a few too many of us come from New Zealand) and although we live in the best country in the world, we reserve the right to bitch and moan about it whenever we bloody like. We are One Nation but we're divided into many States: First, there's Victoria, named after a queen who didn't believe in lesbians. Victoria is the realm of Mossimo turtlenecks, cafe latte,grand-final day and big horse races. Its capital is Melbourne, whose chief marketing pitch is that "it's liveable". At least that's what they think. The rest of us think it is too bloody cold and wet. Next, there's NSW, the realm of pastel shorts, macchiato with sugar, thin books read quickly and millions of dancing queens. Its capital, Sydney, has more queens than any other city in the world and is proud of it. Its mascots are Bondi lifesavers who pull their Speedos up their cracks to keep the left and right sides of their brains separate. Down south we have Tasmania, a state based on the notion that the family that bonks together stays together. In Tassie, everyone gets an extra chromosome at conception. Maps of the State bring smiles to the sternest faces. It holds the world record for a single mass shooting, which the Yanks can't seem to beat no matter how often they try. South Australia is the province of half-decent reds, a festival of foreigners and bizarre axe murders. SA is the state of innovation. Where else can you so effectively reuse country bank vaults and barrels as in Snowtown, just out of Adelaide (also named after a queen). They had the Grand Prix, but lost it when the views of Adelaide sent the Formula One drivers to sleep at the wheel. News presenters have recently been forced to market tourism with the highly persuasive phrase -'Adelaide - it's OK!' Need we say more. Western Australia is too far from anywhere to be relevant. It's main claim to fame is that it doesn't have daylight saving because if it did all the men would get erections on the bus on the way to work. WA was the last state to stop importing convicts and many of them still work there in the government and business. The Northern Territory is the red heart of our land. Outback plains, sheep stations the size of Europe, Kangaroos, Jackaroos, Emus, Uluru and dusty kids with big smiles. It also has the highest beer consumption of anywhere on the planet and its creek beds have the highest aluminium content of anywhere too. Although the Territory is the centre piece of our national culture, few of us live there and the rest prefer to fly over it on our way to Bali. And there's Queensland............While any mention of God seems silly in a document defining a nation of half-arsed sceptics, it is worth noting that God probably made Queensland - it's beautiful one day and perfect the next. Why he filled it with d+ckheads remains a mystery. Oh yes, and there's Canberra. Our nations bush capital. In response to the planned city concept I'll say, 'what the hell were they thinking'. But seriously... The least said the better. We, the citizens of Oz, are united by Highways, whose treacherous twists and turns kill more of us each year than murderers. We are united in our lust for international recognition. Not that we're whingeing; we leave that to our Pommie immigrants. We want to make "no worries mate" our national phrase, "she'll be right mate" our national attitude and "Waltzing Matilda" our national anthem. (So what if it's about a sheep-stealing crim who commits suicide??) We love sport so much our news readers can read the death toll from a sailing race and still tell us who's winning. And we're the best in the world at all the sports that count, like cricket, netball, rugby, AFL, roo-shooting, two-up and horse racing. We also have the biggest rock, the tastiest pies, the blackest aborigines and the worst-dressed Olympians in the known universe. We shoot, we root, we vote. We are girt by sea and pissed by lunchtime. Even though we might seem a racist, closed-minded, sports-obsessed little people, at least we feel better for it. I am, you are, we are Australian.
  18. Alan, I don't want to alter the nature of the thread, however, without discussing ergonomics, simply is there any apprechiable difference in driving the LHD or RHD versions aparty from the obvious. Is there any performance differences such as better handling etc? With our pre-empting you I would think that the RHD version would have to be better balanced and thus a better 'handler' on the road or was there ballast added into the LHD to counteract the im-balance? Keep up the good work, we all look forward to your reports from Japan.
  19. You're up late tonight Alan! Ha... the exhaust, never thought of it being underneath there and being a built in toe warmer for those Northern Climates! Long live the land of Sunshine and perpetual warmth.
  20. I also find it hard to imagine. The only time I've heard of a similar event was in Dirt Rally competition with 510's. There control arms have a habit of breaking and the solution was to replace them with gemini ones. Longer thread and no problem. Which begs the question. Didn't the zed suspension evolve from the 510? If so then the control arms must be of a different design as I've never heard of complete failure as such. On the other hand if the control arm in question was from a 510 then it doesn't surprise me?
  21. Tulip is correct, rosebud would be more descriptive however where is the pic that you uploaded?
  22. Alan, I have to ask the question. Which is better to drive, RHD or LHD. Having only driven RHD zeds I have no idea if they drive better from the left or right as designed? Any others out there that have driven both versions?
  23. Hi Prince, welcome aboard. You might like to contact the Prince Register. Victorian based or at least it was if it's still in existance? Last contact I had was Noel Sinclair [going from memory]. The register was affiliated with the NDSOC. Contact Alan Fides the moderator of OZ regional discussions for more help.
  24. Absolutly fantastic. No one could ever dispute the facts as they have been presented, staright form the head of the design team. Pity though, as we don't have any argument anymore and the thread was slipping into obscurity! How's the definitive book progressing Alan?
