I used Steve's info to rebuild mine with the eBay kit from the guy in Canada. I don't like those sticky gaskets. The green is off, but it's what I had. Individually they sound okay, but I need to hook the pair up together and fine tune, and drive my neighbors nuts.
  2. After 40-50 years of drying.. and fichting the weight.. they get smaller.. it is possible that it dried 2/16 or 1/8th of an inch..
  3. Today I was celebrating the birthday of a brother from a different mother. He also happens to be a Z enthusiast. Every car in that photo except for my 260Z and the 280Z between my car and the Roadster is his. Plus he still has the 240Z he bought from Redwing (Jai) in his garage waiting to be reassembled. Since it was his birthday, I got the horns and speedometer working in his Roadster. He swapped a 240Z for the Roadster. The Roadster has a 2.4L turbo engine in it. Unfortunately, the wiring looks like it was done by a body guy, and the body looks like it was done by an electrical guy. I've been helping him sort out electrical gremlins and install better connectors. He's done a lot of work on my 260Z in the past, so I'm just returning in-kind. A few other Zs showed up along with a 240SX and a G60. There was even a 65 Mustang 2+2 and a 1st gen Camaro SS on hand. There was one strange guy there who was saying something about needing to go to Czechoslovakia to rescue his platoon as he left.

    Those are beautiful sounds.
  5. I've been working on another project the last 2 months but that is done now and back on to Dave's 240 Finally got the head back from the machinist so assembled the engine today, the larger L28 valves will let it breathe easier. I'll wrap it up now and store it under the bench now until the spring. Next up get the body into the shop.
  6. A loose connection could have caused issues. How and where were the meter leads connected to the electrical system in your video. The meter certainly was jumping around. You may want to test without video to see what the voltage is. I did see it popping up to a little over 14, so if it is staying in that range, that should be good. I'm wondering if the ammeter is off or if you really are pumping out as much current as it's reading. It's not a precision gauge, but that looked to be around 20A, maybe more. I would expect to see that if there are a lot of loads on the battery side of the ammeter (I'm still curious about that red wire.), or a battery that is going south or had been greatly discharged. You may want to put the battery on a charger for a few hours and pull the fuse on the red wire. Then see if the ammeter is still reading like that.
  7. Zed you are right. Just checked and the requirements for 1977 vehicles 300 ppm hc and less than 2.5% CO AT IDLE
  8. @SteveJ It's like going into Wisconsin. @Captain Obvious Well I got the $#!+ kicked out of me in Wisconsin once. Forget it!
  9. Third day in a row taking the car out. Only 4 Zs showed up, including mine. That could be from ZNationals happening yesterday. Then there was this unique vehicle. I'm not used to taking car photos in portrait mode.
  10. I wouldn't be surprised if the size has changed that much over 50 years. I don't think the drive shaft issue is a concern.
  11. I think you would be much better off using the new mounts, the age hardened 50 year old rubber compound isn't going to be doing much dampening of vibration and will tear away from the mounting plates if it hasn't already.
  12. Btw.. i can see that the old one is not in a good condition in your last foto.. rubber has let go of the steel.. top in pic.
  13. You’re fine, Did you choose not to incorporate the tee and manual gauge. That and a fuel pressure gauge after the main fuel filter will help you with diagnostics in the future. IMO
  14. Yes, but the drivetrain was from a Toranado. 455 CID. My dad had one about five years ago.
  15. Thank you Steve! I ordered those to see if they fit OK.
  16. I have used wedge (194) sockets to replace bulb sockets in my 260Z. These aren't the ones I used, but I think they may do a good job of staying where you need them: https://www.amazon.com/uxcell-Wedge-Light-Instrument-Socket/dp/B00W8W5MR4
  17. I've read that the VR1 10W30 doesn't have as much ZDDP as 10W40. I also read somewhere that they quit making 10W40. I think 20W50 is too heavy for our upcoming temps. I guess 10W30 it is...
  18. So to tie this off, we got the drums off. We got the car started on an alternate fuel source. The car is on jack stands with the rear wheels off. And using the drive train, we got one of the wheels to turn. Then I used a flat bar to hold the freed up wheel's parking brake mechanism to force the other wheel to turn. The added bonus was with the wheels off the drums started to work their way off on their own. I had brought a large three leg puller with me and we forced them the rest of the way off with that. I think he's going to find that the parking brake levers are seized in the backing plate holding the shoes out...
