Restoration of BringaTrailer 240z - HLS30-35883
I created a separate thread with details about the LSD installation in the R180 case. I'll be picking back up on that project soon. However, I go to retrieve the painted car body on Thursday! Here's hoping that the outcome is as good as I have wished for.4 points

Parking/Tail lights fuse holder heating up
I have to admit that I do a lot of random searches and try new things for two reasons: I have learned a lot from this forum and Zcar.com, and I want to give back. I like researching the obscure. You should have seen it when I was trying to track down a replacement alternator for my friend's 2.4 turbo swapped Datsun Roadster. From starting with a Google search and pictures of the Nippon Denso alternator that was on the car, I found that the 85 Toyota Tercel, 85 Toyota Van, and the 85 Isuzu I-Mark had similar alternators. I even managed to find a replacement plug for the back of the alternator. Some of the tools and gadgets I suggest come from watching mechanics on YouTube. They have some great toys. My wife has all but stopped questioning any of my tool choices because she has figured out that I can justify pretty much all of them. Anyway, I've met some great people from this forum in person including @Captain Obvious, @Yarb, @siteunseen, @jfa.series1, @240260280, @Patcon, @Zup, and the list goes on. I'm getting a lot out of @Mike's hard work.3 points

My two swiss S30Z Fairlady Restoration build thread
A while ago i got in contact with an super friendly elderly lady who used to own a Body- and Paint shop on the Premises of Datsun (Suisse) SA in Urdorf. The company was not related to DSSA, but they worked closely together. She handled warranty repairs for DSSA and worked on special cases for them. For example did she install the first 240Z spoilers and mirror after the cars arrived from Japan. She also got invited to some of their company events and therefore has loads of stories and memorabilia. We talk every now and then, and out of the blue i got a box in my mail yesterday. With this cool stuff: She had shown me photos of these items before, but i never thought she would give them to me for free.. what a nice gesture! The large "Brighten up" Poster was new to me, allthough i've seen the two comic faces before: But on stickers with different slogans: I really like the poster and will frame it and hang it in the garage. The rest of the parts? Well here is where things get funny: Jeff turner, an Australian-Swiss country singer, who worked with the likes of Johny Cash, etc was sponsored by Datsun (later Nissan) Switzerland and they had him on many occasions like company festivities and so on. She was a big fan and gave me her whole collection of his stuff including a nicely signed poster, some tour books: You can clearly see he was sponsored by Nissan and he got free Nissan Patrols painted in his colours, w hich was quite famous in the 80ies: They also used him for many promo gigs and presentation of new cars: And even organized a "nissan Festival of Country music": The set also included a sticker with his Patrol and a Pin: And a "Jeff Turner" Bolo Tie: Fun side story: At a Nissan event, they raffled out a Nissan Micra, and the winner wanted it to be signed by Jeff turner, so the Lady prepared the hood for his signature, and clear coated it after he signed it. Here are some photos from her workshop during the ceremony: Myrtha, if you read this i want to thank you from the bottom of my Heart for sharing the stories and your nice collection of Datsun / Nissan Switzerland History with me.3 points

Blower Motor Upgrade - Not a Honda
3 pointsWell, you don't want the original motor OR the original squirrel cage. That's the point. With the Kia blower both are an upgrade. I've never seen a Kiz squirrel cage quite like the one you've pictured though... The stock foam spacers have to be removed. I've done a few of these swaps since I did mine originally and I've ALWAYS had to trim the hole in the blower box to accept the Kia squirrel cage. If you do it properly, all the stock material can go back if anyone decides to return the blower to factory parts. Note that the mount holes on the blower may not line up exactly either, but they're close and plastic so it's easy to modify. As I've said a BUNCH of times: The stock duct system in the Z SUCKS! The Kia blower helps because it uses brute force to increase the airflow. (I also have the great fortune to have the Hayhurst designed Ultra Heaven Center Ductwork replacement, so I have incredible airflow, but he never produced these for sale...) When you're trimming the hole, do it a little at a time. You're going to tilt the squirrel cage in - NOT DROP IT IN STRAIGHT - so the trimmed hole doesn't need to be a perfect circle AND/OR the exact diameter of the Kia squirrel cage. I wish I'd made a YouTube video of how I did mine... Mine was the junkyard find all those many years ago, I daily drive Goldie in Phoenix Arizona (anyone sick of hearing me say that yet?), I demand that my A/C works at it's peak (Raised in Idaho, never got used to the Arizona heat) - the Kia Blower has never failed me.3 points

240Z High/Low Beam Switch Teardown
3 pointsUnfortunately for you, the switch will never work correctly as long as the board that the wires are soldered to is broken. Pressure on the diamond-shaped rocker to press against the contacts on the board is always going move the board section out of position. Perhaps you can find a donor turn signal switch with the high/low beam switch intact and swap it out. The beam switch is the same for all S30's. I checked my partZ box, don't have one to offer.3 points

hood/headlight bucket alignment
3 pointsIf I remember right, the hinges really need to rotate a little bit not just go straight down. I do agree though, loosen them slightly have someone force the hood down as far as it'll go . Extra if you have it and tighten them up while reaching through the grill opening3 points

Steve, I want a copy of every site on your favourites list, it must be a thing to behold. You consistently come up gems that I've never seen before, and once seen I have to have it. Are you getting a commission from Amazon?😁2 points

Quaife LSD Installation in R180 - With Questions About Installation Also
I measured the turning torque on the pinion nut tonight. Factory spec without the oil seal is 7-10 kg-cm without the oil seal in place, or 6.1 to 8.7 in-lbs. I measured 15 in-lbs. I think that is a bit much based on a Youtube video I watched, where before installation and after installation of the pinion oil seal, the turning torque was measured at about 14 on an R200. I will back the nut off some, torque the nut to the low end of the factory range instead of 135 ft-lbs, and re-measure. Will try to get it to be around 10 in-lbs.1 point

1975 Datsun 280Z CA Market Relay Identification And ATC Fusebox Replacement
Worked on the power circuits today Organizing additional wiring, relay grounds Wired spare relay sockets with power & ground. Only 2nd from bottom is needed right now (AC-on blower fan override) Wiring secondary relay panel, additional 6 fuse panel, ground, 30 & 15 rails 15 rail is part of relay panel. Volvo inserted 3 rails in the relay/fuse panels. I kept this one. making sure that everything can be removed, and has enough cable slack to move out of the way as needed test fit again, re-wrapped harnesses, place CIS module1 point

Looks great. So when are you going into production? It sounds like there are a couple other owners who want those. Aint that the truth!!1 point

hood/headlight bucket alignment
1 pointI had the same issue. One side was acceptable, maybe 1/4 inch proud. The other side was like 3/4 inch proud. Hinges were not worn and had very little slop, and I was maxed out on the adjustment holes. I tried everything. I noticed that without the tension rods installed, it sat perfect, so I opted to just leave the tension rods out and use a wooden hood prop when I’m tooling around in there. Not sure if you’re willing to do that, but it worked for me and seemed to be a better solution than elongating the hinge mounting holes, etc. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

Switching to LED bulbs will also lighten the load on the turn signal and hazard flasher cans. If you still have the OE thermal-style cans the flasher will likely not work. Switching both out to new electro-mechanical type units will take care of things. Something like this will work for both: https://www.autozone.com/electrical-and-lighting/turn-signal-hazard-warning-flasher/p/novita-turn-signal-hazard-warning-flasher-el12/849385_0_0 I'm still running incandescent bulbs all around with relay kits, these type flashers work very well.1 point

hood/headlight bucket alignment
1 pointThis. If your hinges are kind of worn, pushing down on the front of the hood while tightening is the only way to fix that problem.1 point

Parking/Tail lights fuse holder heating up
I replaced every bulb in the back half of the car with LED today, $180.00 😵, the fuse holder was too hot to touch yesterday, after the new bulbs went in it was slightly warm and consistently warm over a 5 min period, heading in the right direction. Will replace the front bulbs tomorrow, I cleaned out my local NAPA so will have to raid the store in the next town over. Thanks guys.1 point

[2023] What Did You Do To/with Your Z Today?
Gave the Beefeaters the day off and eased out one of my crown jewels. Cranked up and ran good but all that sitting ruined another break cylinder. My dog has a doctor's appointment Thursday morning and he likes riding in this rather than my truck so I half assed cleaned it up for him.1 point

Blower Motor Upgrade - Not a Honda
I still have a VDO PM9196 in the box. If I can remember, I'll take photos and measurements, too. The only trimming I saw that may be necessary would be for the brackets for the mounting screws. The VDO went right in.1 point
