  1. I joined this group in 2000 and sold my last 240 in 2014. I saved some old parts for some crazy reason. I really thought with the recent increase in Z values that I would never get back into them. So, I moved on to restoring and playing with some other cars. A couple of weeks ago I got an email from an old college friend. We both had 240's in college. He swapped to a vw after his second year in college. He told me that he had parked his 240 in a shed at his parents house in 1986 and never touched it again. He said his parents were moving to an assisted living facility and the car had to go. He lives across the country and doesn't have time to deal with it, and thought I may be interested. I initially said no, but I would go take a look as it was less than an hour from me, and I could help him sell it. Long story short we made a deal on it and I am back in the z scene. The car is a 72, but was modified with a rear wing and front spoiler and a sunroof! The good, is that it is very solid, has the original motor and straight panels. Bumpers are straight and in good shape. Interior is rough. My plans are a complete restoration to the original metallic brown. I remembered I had an old parts car that I let a friend have. Thinking I could use it for a donor roof, I went to check it out. Guess what.....It has a sunroof too! How could I get this unlucky? Why didn't I remember that? It did have a few other bits that I will need. So, I will be searching for a donor roof. I will post up some more pictures when I go get the car and get it home. Looking forward to catching up with the z community. It was my first online car group. I remember when we had a list serv system where we got emails back in the 90's. Here is how she has been sitting since 1986.

Hey guys, Yeah thanks for your patience as I weed through the posts. These kinds of posts typically come in waves. We'll see a bunch of them and then they will taper off again. I'm not too worried about it because our post-process system is great. The best way you can help is to continue reporting the posts. I will then look at the member account, flag them as a spammer, and they won't be able to log in again. Best thing is I can restrict based on IP address. Most of the latest ones have been coming from India, so it's been great to collect the address pool and I can restrict the entire network segment. There's no real way to prevent this kind of thing, sadly. Recaptcha is a great idea, but it doesn't work anymore. The bots have all worked around the recaptcha security and it's worthless these days. The first post idea is a good idea but it requires that we screen all posts from new members. Since I'm not on every day this can ruin the new user experience. Our software also has methods to detect potential scammers by filtering emails and IP addresses through a known list of spammers, but again these guys just go out and get new IP's. From what I've found, it's better just to let them post so we can create a database of network segments, and then just shut them off in their tracks. I can do this at both the root level and in our software. 😉 Mike

Nothing brings out the scammers like posting an ad in in the "parts wanted" section of the forum. I posted an ad a few days ago looking for a left front fender for my 73 Z project. Within hours I started getting bombarded with replies stating they had one in excellent condition. Just a few clues to be aware of so you don't get burned. See how long they've been a member. One reply I got the person had been a member for 4 hours, another one was a member for 6 days....red flag! Another clue is the stated condition is always excellent...we all know that if you can find one of these it's not going to be in perfect condition. Look at where the message is sent from...it's usually from some oddball source like tap a talk . Some offer to send pictures, but the pictures are usually ones copied from some other source. I had one that sent me pictures from a legitimate ad where I had spoke to the seller who informed me the part had been sold. If you call the number and connect with a real live person who speaks broken English it's more than likely a scam. I replied to one that left an email address. I replied a few days after I got his message...guess what? It came back as an invalid email address. Another red flag is the price is usually very reasonable and includes shipping. The last fender I bought, the shipping was more than the cost of the part. One way to help determine if its a scam (but not perfect) is to ask for specific pictures of the part. I usually ask for a close ups of the front and back of the area where the headlight bucket attaches. It's a shame we have to deal with these low life's. Too bad there's not a way we could screen them out. Maybe we can help each other out by posting detailed info any time we encounter a scammer. Remember the old saying, "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is". Paul
  4. I took the car to a meet today. Aside from a short test drive after replacing the brakes, this was the true test of my work (and diagnostics). Sure enough, the pulling to the left is gone. It's about time for me to pivot to the 260Z and get all of the parts together for the rear bushings to see if I can fix the toe-in on that car. Here's a photo from the meet with a couple of fellow GZC members.
  5. Thanks for the replies and the welcome backs! ! At this point, I am open to all ideas concerning the roof, as I have a lot of work to do before I get to that point! I have restored a number of cars since I refreshed my last z back in the 90's. It turned out nice, but looking back, it would have been better if I had taken it completely apart. One of the biggest improvements since the 90's is the cell phone camera. Lots and lots of pictures at your fingertips! My old z right before she was shipped to Canada...
  6. Now that I’ve nailed down a fastener source, I got some more done today. AEM coils with Protunerz mount.

I know that's not true! I've met you. Your not a real person, you're an engineer! Totally different 😉

Mike should restrict a new users 1st post from going live until it is reviewed by him or a moderator. I think he averages about 1 new user a day.
  9. Somebody redid their horns a while back and documented it really well. Maybe Site can find it?

Just let us know if there is anything else we can do to help, @Mike. We're all a part of this community.
  12. The 240 parts car roof is not good, rust got it badly. I'll take a look at the 280 parts car roof..

They are engineering us to look more and more like real humans by the day.
  14. You may be able to get to the switch & its wiring harness without taking the door panel off. Carefully remove the plastic bezel around the switch without breaking the tabs and take a look. You can possibly test the switch & power from there.

I hope not. I would get kicked off this site...and you guys thought I was a real person.
  16. Thanks guys. Sounds like some jb weld and patience with a file is the way to go. As well as a bigger clip once finished.
  17. I’ve been away a bit, but still tinkering…!
