  1. Well, it has been put to bed. The closing banquet room was packed. We had raffles, recognitions, auctions for charities, tons of car show awards, and a nice presentation from the next group of insane or naive bastards who want to take the baton to Branson for 2019. Then the room emptied out. I did ask Tamura-san what was the chance of Nissan using a straight 6 in their sports car. I know that current packaging makes it almost impossible, but he took the time to talk about other factors like the limitations of the straight 6 with regard to higher RPM applications. Where else but at ZCON can you get that kind of access? I haven't had a conference call in over a week now, but I'm not suffering from withdrawals. The week of somewhat controlled chaos is over. It was great to see how the team worked out pretty much any issue that came up. I have heard that some ZCON teams aren't on speaking terms after all is said and done. I don't think that applies to our group. Thank you for all of you who made the trip to my neck of the woods. I'm sorry I couldn't be more social, but I needed to help my team take care of a few hundred of our closest Z friends. ? If you ever want to drop back by, I'll be more than happy to show you my favorite roads and BBQ joints. I hope you enjoyed your visit. I have most of my things packed. I'll get a few hours of sleep and go over to the Sonesta to say farewell to anybody starting off their trips back home. Then it's my turn to take the short trip back to my house.
  2. My first ZCON and I had a great time. Great people and awesome cars plus our special guests for the tech talks, conversation etc. Thank you to GA Z club and Fairlady Z Alliance for doing a great job, I appreciate your hard work and had a great time.
  3. Usually only an artist can see the flaws in his work of art! Looks beautiful to me.
  4. Early cars have the transmission gearshift further back than earlier cars. So a 71A gearbox is more suitable for early 240z's. If you don't want to get into the business of bending the gearstick backwards and hacking up center consoles. In my 72 240z (which had a 71A box from factory, being a late 71 build) we compromised with a 71B/C hybrid box (71B bellhousing) and Ctype rear extension housing which gives my car a 71B box in terms of ratios etc.. but the gearshift lever further back to suit the early style body and transmission slot. Which might explain why shifting to 5th always felt strange compared to rowing through the first 4 gears.
  5. Hello list... it's been a few years since I posted here last (10 or so!) So, first the barnfind is my father's 1970 series 1 240z...Yellow over black leather. HLS30-15369 While not truly a "find" or in a barn (it's in a garage in NJ where it has been sitting since 1980 when he lost his eyesight) She was purchased new by my father from Bob Sharp Motors (yes of BSR fame) on July 11th, 1970. The car was built in Dec. 1970 and delivered on Feb. 18th 1971. Within the first few months, my father had BSR add A/C, put in an exhaust ($140 + $55 install), larger front swaybar, added a rear swaybar, and installed a set of Konis on all 4 corners. My father also installed a set of American Racing wheels (All the take off equipment is still in my father's basement). He stopped driving the car (and driving) in 1980 when he became legally blind. The car has (wait for it) 24,041 original miles on it. Now for the questions: I am planning on having it transported from NJ to my home in Boulder CO, and having Jeff Winter (Rallye/Sport) help with some work to resuscitate her. So the first question is what transport companies do the collective list recommend for an interstate shipment like this? (then once the car is here, I'll need to blow out the shellack from the fuel lines, boil the tank, "replace everything rubber" re-jett the carbs for altitude, ect...) I will be posting followups (and pictures once I get the car out ? TIA! -Jason
  6. Interesting. Numbers seem to be quite jumbled. According to Carl's inventory, HLS30-14886 was built in November 1970, HLS30-15647 was built in October, and HLS30-15652 was built in December. I would imagine that the car was ordered six months before it was built. Furthermore, it would be a 1971 model year.
  7. Waiting list I would guess. @Dr. 240Z tried to buy one in eastern Canada in early 1970 but was on a waiting list. He was still waiting by spring of 71 and saw 2 on a lot when arriving to work in western Canada. He bought the one that had not sold that same day... these cars were hard to get!!! It was built in Jan 1971.
  8. My paint supplier told me the same thing. He said I have customers with $50k booths that have more trash in their paint than you have. That is always reassuring you have succeeded in doing the best you can with what you have!
  9. The oil pan took even longer since I had to get the old gasket off. A previous owner had used liberal amounts of adhesive to hold it in place. Luckily after that there were no surprises. The pan itself is in great shape so I am thankful for that. The bottom of the pan just had a few small pieces of the old chain rails. Everything was cleaned inside and out. My wire wheel equipped rotary tool made short work of the left over black paint. I used the same Old Ford Blue for the pan. I know it is "supposed" to be black but I just think it all looks better when it matches. 2 light coats and 1 wet coat later, things were look very nice. With the forecasted sun for tomorrow I plan paint the front timing cover, head, and oil pan support strips.
  10. I think in this case the use is intended to treat some health conditions. If I could use a naturally produced product to treat those symptoms over a lab developed product, I think that would be my first choice.
  11. We had a great time! I have been posting from the hotel wifi, but I will post more when I get home on my own network. Apologies if I double post in the gallery. I will try to pick through the 300 or so pictures and not duplicate anything. It's been a good week. Beats working for sure
  12. Today at the PCshow Mark Maras on the left Zup in the middle Matsuo San to the right at Zup's car
  13. I haven't had the camera out too much this week. I knew in my heart it would be that way, though I didn't want to be. However, I made up for it other ways. 1. I got to work with a great team that no matter what disagreements we might have had, we put differences aside and worked together. 2. I had the privilege of assisting Matsuo-san put together the slides for his presentation. 3. I got to spend some more time hanging out with John & Sylvia at the track. I leave John alone. He has plenty of other people bothering him. Sylvia is a hoot. 4. Johnnie Gable shared some of her stories with me. There isn't much that can slow her down. Organizing a ZCON is a wonderful experience that I hope never to do again. My hat is off to the ZCCA directors for putting the effort into making it happen year in and year out.
  14. You guys have spurred me into action! This morning I showed my wife nice pictures of two Datsun Zs. One had 16x7 Panasport wheels, the other, 16x7 Koenig Rewind wheels. I didn't mention which was which, or costs. Right away, she selected the Panasports. I told her the relative pricing and she just shrugged her shoulders. Now I need to try to find who currently has the Panasports with the best pricing.
  15. Sorry about that, guys. I've rehosted the pics, so hopefully they'll show up now. Hoping I haven't accidentally booted the pics in my 280Z thread now.
