Is this a new find?
3 pointsHi , thank you spitz 17 , this is an old thread , I want to put something about the stitching at the seat bottom. My Z432 has the vertical stitching as you can see , I must say it is not the original. The seat bottom must be repaired at some point in the past . I looked the vinyl closely, and found it is different from the other side . Today I visited Mr . Sudo , he is a real craftsman of upholstery for S30 . He said my Z432 ‘s stitching is not original, he has been dedicated doing the job more than 30 years , he knows what is original. I placed an order to him for a set of my early seats three years ago , he said I will be the final customer for his S30 seats restoration, he has been saying when the vinyl runs out , he quit the restoration for S30 . He has sufficient amount of vinyl for GTR , so he his work continuously being made , but not in a hurry. I am waiting it’s completion, he already made some pieces, I can’t wait to see it . He of course knows about the difference of early and late model , he uses various kind of tools for each model. if you are the upholstery guy , you can tell how he make the seats nicely and there are numerous his experiences fully applied. He said he would be the only man who was successfully able to access to the original vinyl manufacturer other than Nissan . He managed to make the manufacture to find out the original mold and make it useable , then the manufacturer accepted his order , some length of roll (maybe 100 meters ? ) , he did it a long time ago , he said he was not sure he would be doing right thing or not . Soon after the cooperation with the manufacturer, the manufacturer was merged by a big company , then unable to make the vinyl again . I said he did it right for us ! Kats3 points

What tires to get tall & big NO RUBBING
Here's 15x7 +4 offset with no rub. 205 60 R15's. Using this Discount tire calculator shows that the 205 60 R15's will have 2 more revolutions per mile from stock 195 70 R14. When the speedo shows 65MPH you would be going 64.8MPH or 99.6% of 65MPH. https://www.discounttire.com/learn/tire-size-calculator1 point

7" brake booster repair and restoration
I think I emailed them too. They have cut back on opioid Rx a lot so some of the new meds don't really deal so great with the pain. Here's hoping for a swift recovery. Getting older ain't for sissy's!!!1 point

1 pointProbably, It in theory makes the cars history complete in one place. Sort of like the 56' Beetle my dad bought new. It is essentially a one owner and I have all the receipts. I suspect that would help the value considerably...although we'll never find out.1 point

1 pointIt's a shame we are losing these craftsmen as they age out and retire. I am afraid with enough time it will get very difficult to reproduce some of these details.1 point

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
1 pointHI Kats, I think the cap ending in -16300 is more for the SP311, which has a expansion type tank (where the coolant can be sucked back into the coolant system)...for me, Nissan part numbers ending in -16300 are more than likely CSP311 specific, which is true for trim/unique parts. Whether this carries over to "generic" mechanical parts, I am not sure 100%. Cheers Ian1 point

Ressurecting my grandfather’s 280z
Here's a cheap way to see if your tank is rusty. They are around $3. Also tank cleaning thanks to @240260280. http://atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/fuel/g3filter/index.htm http://atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/fuel/gastank/index.htm Here's the whole enchilada, very helpful too. http://atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/1 point

73 240z fuel starved with mechanical flooded with electric pump
This morning I routed the fuel lines around the Hugh pressure Holly pump. Now I'm all mechanical. No more flooding. Pretty anemic in power compared to having the other pump. But the mechanic tinkered with the carbs just a bit to get it running well (when not flooded) with that air fuel mixture. I'm sure I need to adjust the carbs now. It's all new to me but I'll read guides and such. I'll try to balance them and whatever else I need to do. I think the floats might be fine now. Everything I read made it sound like that field pump would push past good floats. Forgot the exact Psi but multiple times spec. Thanks for the help guys. It got me to make progress today.1 point

Project Boondoggle (or, so I went and bought a Z!)
Air dam (and attached bag of hardware) fell on it after I moved it, while thinking "hmm...that's probably not a good place to put that." I was right! That's what I get for trying to clean up a bit. Guess it's time to start watching CL and the classifieds. ETA: looks like Summit sells a replacement for $90! I feel a little better now.1 point

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
1 pointThe type of cap that really belongs on the radiator depends on whether the plastic overflow container in intended to be a pressure vessel or not. Based on the domed end shape and the thick walls of the plastic container you have, it looks like it may be capable of holding the system pressure, but the plastic cap you have on the tank looks like it has a small vent hole in the center: So if that is really a vent hole in the plastic cap (and it is the correct cap for the plastic container), then you should be using a radiator cap like the ones you pictured before: In other words... Somewhere in the system, you need to contain the pressure up to the rating of a cap (for example) 13 psi. And if you're not containing that pressure with a spring loaded radiator cap, then you need to do it at the plastic tank. But you would need a sealed cap there that included a pressure relief. I'm resisting describing how a typical system is supposed to work because I'm sure you already know all that and I don't want to explain a whole bunch of stuff you know already. But if you want, I can whip up some sketches, etc. to try to describe that.1 point

73 240z fuel starved with mechanical flooded with electric pump
Mine runs great with the mechanical pump only, 2 round top SUs. Yours should too after you get the floats back to normal. It's hard to imagine a high pressure Holley on my 240. Fuel would be leaking out everywhere. I had the Blue ones for my boat motor, set at 3.5psi. They were fantastic pumps, noisy as hell but I knew it was running.1 point

If you are pulling through a dead pump, yes, it will reduce flow.1 point

Cody's Goon
1 pointWell we got Cody's car running a few weekends ago. We got the timing cover off and redid all those seals and reset the plunger. It has fixed the water consumption issue. We also found he was losing the rear brake circuit due to leaks. So we rebuilt all of the rear brakes. New shoes, wheel cylinders and hardware. I had Cody do most of it. He did good with it! We also put some new tires on it to prevent scrubbing in the wheel wells. It's a lot better but the right side that got hit still scrubs a little bit. He is happy to have his car back. A while back I worked on the grill and headlight buckets. I had Cody buff all of them. You have to buff them on a lower speed if possible. They are easily damaged if the wheel takes them away from you. Then I taped them all up so I could spray the black. I used the Eastwood satin black 2K. It looks good. We'll see how it holds up. It had mixed reviews, but so far I have gotten good results with it. I should have taken some pictures of them all taped up. I always get going and forget to do it. Here are some finished pictures: I bought some 1/4" pin striping tape which helped a lot on taping off the fine lines This last one peeled a little when the tape was removed. I think it did that because we didn't get all the buffing compound off before spraying them. Next on the list are some suspension repairs. the front struts seem shot, sway bar links are shot and the sway bar bushings will get redone too1 point

Is this a new find?
1 pointHey Kats, Sorry for the horribly late reply, but I did not find that stitching on my Fairlady Z or 240Z Interesting that DMC-Z found the same thing. Too bad I do not have HLS30-05998 anymore, which is very close to DMC-Z's 5389, or else I would check. Definitely gives your Z some character though, haha.1 point
