  1. Good news. The car is now sold to a friend that is going to restore it to OEM glory. It will live again.
  2. Got the pistons cleaned up. Installed new rings and connecting rod bearings.

What type of HP do I expect to see with this build from your experiences? Lastly, I attached a picture of my cam specs. Any suggestions on dialing in this cam to suit my build? Thanks in advance!
  4. Great news, now I can stop feeling guilty.
  5. And where’s the damn pics ?
  6. Well after 25 years of sitting the 77 went down the road for a little spin. Apples and oranges compared to my Z - lol. Not fair comparison I know . Shocks are bad - from just sitting for 25 years and only 30 K miles - disappointing. Brakes were a bit soggy so I might need to purge more fluid from it . Not a puff of smoke anywhere- except a bit of burning of rats nests between the heat shield and intake - Transmisson worked well for an automatic. Engine seemed a bit doggy - even for stock. It ran smoothly with no hicups or belching , but nearly as stout as the 73 Auto I did last year( with a timing chain ready to fall off). Love to have a wideband on this motor. I pretty sure the AFM has been hacked into, so who knows where it’s at. Need to go back thru the EFI bible again and do more checks. Seems to be loading up a bit at idle, but once warmed up she idles rock solid. Something’s a miss on the dizzy too, maxed out advanced to just get the right numbers . Hopefully I just got the shaft in wrong and not a slipped pulley. Turn signals stopped working though worked fine in the garage? I SWEAR the AC is putting out cool air- how can that be!! Interior is going in . Carpet kit is a jig saw puzzle with two pieces that don’t fit - but I’ll adjust that. Ordered a full dash cover to complete a very complete interior. Everything works down to the glove box light . Owner is wondering what he got into as the bills escalate. Most Z owners would be over the moon every time they looked at this chassis. I’m betting he will sell it because he’s not a true Datsun enthusiast, but someone will benefit from that. I did find some rust on the passenger floor. Floors were getting wet from leaking water somewhere. The window wasn’t even all the way up when I got it. It was all surface rust- no pitting .
  7. A big nod of praise for Captain Obvious' and Jonathan Russell's efforts. Well done, gents. I'm actually (finally) reassembling the rear suspension of my '71 and gave the moustache bar bushings and the ridged discs a close inspection. The bushings are swaged at one end and in too good condition to be original, leading me to wonder how/when they were replaced. The discs have the taller/deeper ridges but seem to fit quite well. I'm putting it all back together as-is and hope for the best. Even in the slightly worn condition I think it'll work fine for ordinary street use. As an aside, I bought an RT diff mount a few months ago only to discover this weekend that it doesn't fit very well on the '70-'71 models. Has anyone had to modify theirs?

My '78 280z stock tires are 195/70/R14. The speedo is off about as much as yours even with stock tires. It's most imprecise of any vehicle I've owned lol. Even worse than my truck which has tires 3" larger than stock.

I believe an early car had 175srX14. That tire has a 24.96 dia. 72 body and block, everything else 71, Tokico springs, Illumina, R180 CLSD, 83 close ratio, 3.90 gears, Ztherapy SUs, BRE 15X7 Libre wheels and BRE front spoiler.

As memory serves me a stock tire and an early 4 speed in an original Z would be about 3000-3200 RPM 72 body and block, everything else 71, Tokico springs, Illumina, R180 CLSD, 83 close ratio, 3.90 gears, Ztherapy SUs, BRE 15X7 Libre wheels and BRE front spoiler.
  11. Think I will go with leather. Thanks for all the responses.
  12. I had a tool made by a fabrication / machine shop in Atlanta. I had several of them made actually. Attached are two photos of the tool. Below, also find a link to a video they made using the tool to fold the bushing shell into the swage shape. If someone wants to use the tool and ship it back to me or on to the next person wanting to use, I am happy to help accommodate. You should know though that I have never actually used the tool...which is why I have never mentioned it on the forum. I plan to use it in my refresh of my orange 72 and my dad's pearl black 78.
