  1. took Dat Boi (my nickname for my 75 z) to Smiths Station AL for a family visit, 400 miles each way, avg 75-85 depending on interstate traffic. slower up hiway 280. Avg 25 MPG, found a ethanol free GATEs filling station at mile 439 in Florida on I 75 for those interested in where to get gas. No problems at all until the return trip. It was hot and I was running the AC, Stopped at the Gainesville rest stop and noticed carpet on driver side was damp, pulled it up and found it soaked from the tunnel on down. A quick taste test (yum) showed no signs of antifreeze so I figured must have been the condensate. I was not in a good position to work on it, so turned off the AC and drove the 70 or so miles with out it. Looked thru my stash and found the coupler needed (EVAP box to drain pipe) to replace the broken one. got all the carpet and jute out and thoroughly dried the driver, lifted up the carpet on the tunnel and ran a fan all night on it to help air it out. took a ride with AC on, drove for about 20 miles and when home I could see the water dripping out of the drain pipe, YAY, and the tunnel and floor board was completely dry. Hopefully that is the end of the leak problems, I am looking forward to more long trips. These shake down trips seem just the ticket to find little problems.

The Nissan Heritage Collection was passing out these caps at the Mitty this weekend. They made 1970 copies of the hat, and Ethan from Nissan was nice enough to give me a couple of extra for Georgia Z Club giveaways.
  3. What kick arse event! Special shout out to Linwood Staub for being kind enough to let me race his car during one of the 7 lap races. It really did make the fact that I had an engine problem in my car all better. I believe in one more lap, I could have been P1! Also, like to thank Randy Jaffe for putting on such a nice spread and the amount of effort that takes with his California staff. I know many of the folks that run HSR and they were very pleased at the participation of the Nissan/Datsun brand and all their loyal supporters and enthusiasts. The car count was WAY up. Till next year. Greg
  4. A little before the last sprint race for Group 3A (most of the Z cars), I happened to check my email. The events manager from Grassroots Motorsports sent me an email telling me to go up to their display in Vendor Village to claim their copy of the Mitty poster. I don't think I ever got from the bridge to Vendor Village faster. The guy who handed me the poster said that someone offered to buy it before I came up there. He told the prospective buyer that the poster was already spoken for. It's going to look nice hanging in my garage. So until I can get my photos online, shall we get ready for ZCON in October?
  5. By the way, this happened one lap as a Porsche tried to match @gira's line through 10A.
  6. I had a great time at this year's Mitty. I'm sorry that @Carl Beck and @Ron Carter couldn't have been here. I think it was better than 2010. Among the fantastic experiences I had was getting to see a 1st generation Silvia. It was at the 2010 Mitty, but I missed it then. I snapped these photos on Saturday, and I saw the owner of the car on Sunday. I asked him for a closer look, and he offered to let me get behind the wheel of this beauty. It wasn't so much getting into the car and putting it on. It was a tight fit, but I would be willing to put up with it. I asked him to consider bringing it back down to Atlanta for ZCON. He asked if non-Zs were allowed. I replied, "I am on the organizing committee. YOU are allowed." While it is built on the Fairlady Roadster mechanicals, it seems to be more narrow to me.

Take a test on #2 again, and another on #2 again but now with a plug thight in #3.. if it differs your headgasket leaks between # 2 and #3 ... (or bad rings.. is another..)
  8. Randy had a car built. All of the gauges and switches in it came from the original BRE team, as well as many other parts. He even has the original engine and transmission, though they aren't used for racing. It was not Ron's car. John Morton actually gave Randy the VIN plate from the original car because Randy's car is so faithful to the original.
  9. The BRE team - intimidating the competition with the red race shirts and white jeans. (See reference)
  10. Glad to hear it's running better. Can you confirm that it was driven for a while with the choke off after it warmed up. I agree with Philip. Leave the floats alone and drop the nozzles 1 turn. More pics of the plugs after you readjust.

But he did achieve one thing, he managed to eliminate every advantage there is to either the Z or the bike in one build, not everyone can do that.
  12. Look at my photos closely once I get them all posted. You'll see a lot of cars picking up the right front through 10B

What a great article.... I love reading about the Z in the time it was here. Even then they realized what a special car it was. Amazing to think how spot on they were.
  14. Just an FYI 10 years is a long time for those injectors. I would also verify you can hear each one clicking. I had a 300ZX I just went through that was sitting for 2 years. None of the I jectors would fire. I had to clean them one by one and lube and apply voltage on and off until they freed.
  15. You as well, sir! Semper Fi.
  16. a search turned up that some "assembly" lubes may gum up (to thick additives for such a tiny area are not good) for the very small amount of lube that is in the valve stem/valve guide contact. Only a tiny bit of motor oil is needed for normal lubrication. consensus was regular motor oil is fine for assembly lube of the valve stem/valve guide.
  17. Hi Steve...I’m not on Face Book, if you could, I’d love to see those shots and any of the 85 car. BTW, I haven’t heard....how did Woody and Greg finish? Enjoyed seeing you again....super weekend and so nice to meet Charles and Cody. Guy
  18. @Diseazd - During the enduro race, a 911 spun right behind Greg Ira coming into Turn 10A. He didn't recall seeing a car spin. I found that I caught it in a nice sequence of photos, so I posted them to Greg's FB page. Sure enough, he said he didn't even notice what happened behind him.
  19. Spent to many years as a project manager & lean. Just had to do a Kamban board.
  20. Maybe the rubber guy, nix240z, could look at making some. Make a mold, pour around some bracketry. It's a lot of rubber but there's not much to it. It just sits there. The're almost all rotten or sagging. Big market if they were priced right. @nix240z
  21. Good news. The body shop has ordered the left side bumper end. But the right side is not available. Nor the rubber finishing strip that goes from side to side on top of the bumper. Front bumper 1976 280 Z. If anyone has information where I can get these 2 parts, please tell me where. I can get the body shop to order them from anywhere. Thanks all, Jai
  22. Hi , I currently have no good news for this , several shops in Japan import Zs from the US , however they usually do 240Z . If I find the pats I will let you know but it seems difficult. Kats
  23. that's what retirement is for!
