  1. Well I'm relieved to say that FutoFab's bumpers not only look great but they also fit very well and have the correct metric attachments. I just placed the fenders on with no screws and it all lined up well, Dave Patten the owner is also a good guy to deal with, very professional.
  2. If you just had a propane tank hooked to those like the old batmobile, now that would be cool.
  3. e How ironic. If you used the search function for more than just “hoovering” and reposting other people’s photos you would see that Alan has shared quite a bit of the information he’s acquired over the years. If not for people like Alan and Kats obtaining, translating, and sharing the information they’ve gathered and obsrved first hand, we’d know a lot less about the family of S30 cars and how they differed across models and markets around the world. Why don’t you post in Kat’s great Datsun 240Z vs Fairlady Z432 thread how you think his car is just an overpriced 240Z with girly named badges? http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/23900-datsun-240z-vs-fairlady-z432/ Several people in this thread have made great comparisons to put in context why a Z432 costs so much more than a NA 240Z, but you ignore that and focus on the horse power specs and make unrealistic comparisons to modern cars. Clearly you don’t get what makes a Z432 special or appreciate it for what it is. I don’t think that you speak for the majority of people on this site (at least I am hopeful that you don’t) and you certainly don’t speak for all of North America, so please quit making broad sweeping statements like you have been.
  4. I'm using my '87 Hardbody with 350K miles on it. SIKE! I'VE borrowed a '14 Silverado 1500 work truck. Roll down windows with X-M radio? Nice truck and much bigger than the 1500s he bought when I worked for him 10 years ago. I'm prepared for this trip.
  5. Muffler work is complete. Main muffler is a stainless Magnaflow 14211 and the resonator is a Vibrant 1140 "Ultra Quiet" The fitment of the muffler is fantastic. It is standing upright and looks totally tucked from the rear. Both inlet and outlet are offset to the same side. The resonator is about as wide as it can be. Wish it came in double offset, the in and out pipes would not have to be as curved. Just have to find a nice tip. The sound is fantastic. Quiet'ish at idle and cruise but has a good sound under power, but not loud or obnoxious. I see more cleaning I need to do... sigh....
  6. Done! Those trailers are great too. The driver's side fender folds down so you can open the car door and not have climb out the hatch like I've done with other car trailers.
  7. New brake booster installed, sparkplugg gaped to 1mm and a small adjustment to one of the carbs: Brakes work like never before, very very good! Engine feels smoother, may try to increase the gap to 1.1 mm to see what happens.
  8. Yup that's it! No product link that I know of but if you print some of the pictures and take it to a local welder. They aught to be able to make it easy enough.
  9. I hope so too! I think I will pull them out of their protective cocoons today and try some test fitting, thanks for the heads up. I have a guy coming to my place with a portable tig unit to seal it up, he was suppose to call this week but nothing yet so I have moved ahead finally and got the engine sitting in the car. Just starting to play with engine mount/tranny mount designs. I have about 1/2" clearance from the top of the engine to the hood which is okay I guess but I would like more, so time to rearrange the furniture again without screwing up the toe in/out. Here is the stock bmw on/off idle control valve that Matt the MS tuner wants me to replace, Here is the new stepper motor version that will replace it, not as sleek looking but it is completely hidden and it works well,
  10. I guess I'm late to the party because I just found out about this site, http://www.hammondsplains.com/z/index.htm Maybe there are others who haven't seen it yet, there is some interesting looking stuff on it and no middle man.
  11. They are both flow through. The resonator is 2.25 and the muff 2.5. No buyers yet. Going to a car show tomorrow out in Radium BC so the 73 still thinks I like it, then will get to proper advertising next week.
  12. I don't remember who it was either but it seems it would be easy to design one that bolts to the tie down (tow hook) bolt holes. I'm assuming that would be a good attachment point for a light weight trailer hitch.
  13. here's some Nissan part numbers that are still good and available. Oil pan gasket, 11121-E3001. $15 Rear main crank seal, 12279-2B500. $30 Rear main crank side seals, 12289-W0400. 2 at $2 each, $4. Turbo head bolts, short ones you need 9, 11056-P7600. $4 each Turbo head bolts, long ones you need 5, 11059-P7600. $5 each Those prices are in between list and what I have to pay, I get a discount. The turbo oil pump from Advance is cast iron which will add a couple of pounds over the original aluminium but after the discount it's only about $60. It's a Melling P/N 152. You'll read a lot about the turbo pump is P/N 111 but I emailed their tech department and was told the pumps are the same except the turbo automatic transmission pump has a higher bypass pressure so that makes it flow more before bypassing back into the pan. So the #152 is what he suggested that I buy. FYI only! I'm a shade tree mechanic with access to the world wide web, almost dangerous.
  14. I remember seeing a thread a year or so back about somebody who had a hitch on their Z, who was it?
  15. So for those questioning the value riddle me this, why is a Toyota 2000GT a $1M + car now? What about a Ferrari GTO? Why are they worth $30M +? Surely these are all just cars that go point A to point B. No doubt many modern cars could do the job a lot better, cheaper, reliably and at a lower cost and fuel efficiency? The Z432 needs to be viewed in the context of the fact that it was a car you could buy in late 1969, the engineering in the S20 is impressive and the parts and components that went with it. The fact that a LHD 240z (HLS30) can still be bought cheap is a function of large remaining supply, and unfortunately many were under appreciated. A similar era 911 would cost at least 3-4x a similar S30Z and yet I know which I'd prefer and do own. If you don't see the value in the Z432 that's fine, clearly others do. Frankly I'm appalled at what has been done to many S30Z's and sadly continues to be done to them to this day. But that's what people want to do and until they have exhausted the supply of S30Z's to the point where you can no longer pick 1 up cheaply, I suspect it won't change. Thankfully those days are numbered and they can spend all their time cutting up S13/S14/AE86 etc.. until those become rare enough and desirable in about 20 years. Then someone will have the audacity to post an immaculate original 1 on a forum somewhere and be told it's over-priced. Thus the circle will be complete.
  16. A sure sign the conversation is ending: a totally different car from a totally different era is presented as an alternate-use-case to whatever is currently being discussed.
  17. Value is in the eye of the beholder. The only reason to call somebody a dimwit, implying that you are smarter than they are, is because you are insecure about your own opinions. Instead of arguing the point, you make an ad hominem attack on the person. It's a form of weakness, in mind and personality. Explain why the car is more valuable to you, and leave the personal comments out. Show some knowledge instead of pretending that you know something. Show us that you're actually an intellectual and not a pretender. It's easy for people who really know what they believe, difficult for people who just want to feel superior. And for you Mike, this not abusive behavior. I know you like to please the guys who actually own "classics" but you'll end up with a 5 person club if you're not careful. Not a lot of sell-through from those guys either, they probably don't shop on the internet.
  18. Just based on my experience, it's almost always impossible to explain to people why I put a larger dollar value on a car like a Z432 vs, say, a stock 1970 Z, or even a modified Z with a Rubello engine. The difference between these examples happens to matter to me, but I acknowledge I'm in the super-minority. I can confirm the same arguments are heard across Marques. There are plenty of enthusiasts with a 1973 Porsche 911 who wonder why their car is only worth $50,000, while the guy with the 1973 RS can sell his for $1,000,000. Or why the guy with the 1960 Ferrari 250 PF II cabriolet sells his car for $2 million, while the guy with the 250 LWB California - nearly the exact same car, save for a few body panels- gets $14 million for his. The nerdy answer fundamentally is that there are enough marque fanatics who are students of the differences, and a select few more that have the means to insist on buying only the top-end specifications, thus creating a market spread. In the case of the Z432, there are perhaps less than 200 surviving examples to choose from, in various states of originality, so when one comes up, you either buy it, or wait (potentially a long while) for the next one.
  19. Allan, you can blather on all you like about the ephemerals of the 432 and your resort to your predictable and priggish insults but lets talk numbers. The 432 is a rare car, granted and so what? For a 1/4 million bucks you get a $20,000 car and a whole lot of ego. For that money you don't get any special performance or handling, you get the same as a mildly breathed on stock Z. Personally I'm not interested in the Emperor's clothing, you are welcome to his entire wardrobe, I'm interested in what is in his garage. I'm also not interested in how easily a fool and his money is parted, I leave that to you as well. Myself and many other members here would appreciate it if you could simply ague the facts an stop with the petty insults. Mike, as moderator, could you please go back through the last 30-40 posts that Allan has submitted and take note of all the belitting insults he has made to other members including the posts of his that you have deleted?
