  1. The shop is now warm enough to to fiberglass, the CA glue stiffened the panels up quite a bit so I only used one sheet of glass mat for the job, 2nd pic is the wax paper over the door used as a mold, 4th pic you can see I glassed up to with in an inch and a half of the edge so when the leather edge wraps around it will be easier to glue and staple.
  2. Not any more I don't!! That was many moons ago when I was young and indestructible. At this point, if I got one of those "live or death" adrenaline rush events, I juuuuuussst might be able to roll it off my chest before I passed out from the pain.

  6. Site, Is that Buddy's butt and tail under the dizzy? How about a head shot, or better yet a nose to tail tip shot? Dog lovers just want to see. Jai
  7. This is how it was when I pulled the motor. Does it look okay? I think it's at full advance but I never could wrap my head around electrical timing. It's the '79 zx with e12-80 module. @Zed Head @Captain Obvious
  8. Before tommy chong was signing going downtown to see my gail he had a Motown hit in 1967 http://nightflight.com/does-your-mama-know-about-me-tommy-chongs-late-60s-motown-hit/
  9. Its up and running! First oil change done.
  10. I haven't done one in quite a while but I seem to recall removing my exhaust system. It looks like you can wiggle the trans.out but it's too close. The FSM says to disconnect it from the manifold but doesn't say to remove it. If you're not on a high lift though I think it gets in the way if you don't take it all the way off. It hangs down and cuts off driver's side access. Another gasket, maybe a broken stud. Be careful. Probably right to do it at home. Edit - actually there's a whole extra set of small problems that can crop up on this job. You'll probably want to remove the console to get to the shift lever. That's a pain, and the three screws in the change pocket are probably rusted and one or two will break. The exhaust system. Might break a stud. You'll probably realize that the slave cylinder hose is cracked and ready to blow. You might find it very difficult to get the hose broken free because it's been on for 35+ years. You'll realize that the rear engine seal is leaking and decide to change it while you're there (it's easy). Here's a tip on the driveshaft bolts - put the wrench on the nut, jam it against the body of the car, and turn the driveshaft by sticking a screwdriver in the u-joint yoke.
  11. I'd leave the hole open. Less usable space inside for a varmint home. If you put a screen over it, they'll use it for the base of their bed and fill it up with bedding material. BTW, mothballs are an excellent critter deterrent.
  12. That large round hole was originally connected to a hose that sucked warmed air off the exhaust manifold. I've always called it the "heat riser" connection. It's unfiltered at that point, so the only thing you have to worry about would be critters. However, if critters are looking for a warm spot to make a nest, they could simply crawl into the other oval hole at the end. Both those holes go to the same spot which is the dirty side of the air cleaner.
  13. Ahhh - that hole, sorry to mis-read your post. If you think about the OE configuration, that hole is always open so there should be no concern over air volume as the carbs will pull only what they need thru the filter. I've also got a header and left mine open, but then I don't have a potential varmint issue. Great looking finish on that filter box!
  14. The other Z is almost sold and then it is full speed ahead on this build. Picked up some new bearings and stub axle clip rings for the OBX, got as much done as I could then took it up to the Differential shop to have them install the OBX unit in the R200 and adjust the free play, very pleased with the wipe pattern. I'll tuck it away on the shelf now ready for installation, hopefully it will be a quite unit.
  15. Chris, Can you take a picture of the engine number on the block and a picture of the plate on the strut tower showing that #. I am talking to the wife about purchasing another Z "for her" lol. Clay
